I like the wheels but I’d have kept the mudflaps personally
Yup 100% agree with you mat , looked better with the mud flaps on .
Same
Your right
Spot on, totally agree to Matt. Practicality v Looks. Wheels look good ( the old ones looked great though personally). Always Worth personalising Rangeys. You can’t beat them. She’s a keeper Joel 👌👏I think the bulb changes we’re worthwhile I do the same too 👌
Agree, I put them on my XC90 because it means the side of the car looks less like a farm yard in the winter months.
Social media that’s reflective of the truth? Trailblazing. Love your honesty, everyone starts somewhere and your journey is inspiring.
That feeling of “that hasn’t worked, oh wait, has it? Yes, no, wait yes!” Has to be the most satisfying thing about working on your own cars 😂
Honestly, it's such a good feeling
Yea man I had such a smile on my face for him when he realised it worked we've all been there
@@philtrysstrongman The rush of relief is real!
@@JAYPCARS oh definitely I had the same when removing a turbo and I needed the car for work the next day 😅
We want more of the black cat! For stuck nuts imperial sockets can help, often part way between two metric sizes.
23mm socket usually works with the ‘swollen nuts’ issue on these. An impact wrench is a good investment if you are doing a lot of wheel swapping so not all wasted money. I’d recommend using a torque wrench to set the correct 140nm final torque and don’t just crank them up with a breaker or you can stretch the threads. Good luck with the project and keep an eye on the EGR valve as.
Thanks John, 23mm was too big, ended up buying a 22.5mm which actually fit, but that was after I'd managed to get them off with the method you saw in the video. Having the EGR deleted in a few weeks!
@@itsjoel in
Take all the wheels off again and put some copper grease on the threads and on the back of the wheel to stop it seazing on. Anyone who buys a car should do this on the first day of ownership
can’t believe joel was molested by a land rover technician just to make this video, that’s dedication and a new definition to the term ‘hard work’
This is such a funny video, no youtube magic here, but just like when i do car diy, a 10 min job is always a 2 day job and 3x more expensive than planned, as aggravating as it is we always come back for more haha
Perseverance is definitely the answer with Range Rovers.
Loved this episode!
Love your content, Joel - but this has to be the best so far - had me laughing uncontrollably - love your humour - well done on the wheel swap - great work! The mudflaps though….
Shaping up a treat. Excited to see what your dad ended up getting
Coming soon!
Great mod on the lights. Think I’d have kept the mudflaps too but personal choice I guess. Look forward to seeing this car develop keep up with the great videos really enjoy them 👍
Thanks 👍 I'm thinking the mud flaps will probalby go back on to be honest.
Is there not a trim piece you can fit where the mudflaps were. This would be easier on the eye (although I would have kept the mud flaps)
You may aswell wear the tyres out on these wheels then refurbish the original wheels with new tyres, Agree with Matt from High Peak - put those flaps back - will look good with steps and flaps back on
Why aren't you removing the front mudflaps too? It makes the car look unbalanced.
Maybe should have used an impact socket and it’s a shame that the wheel nuts aren’t the original ones
Your struggle is hilarious. Please keep working on your own cars 🤣
I prefer the new wheels as well, they're exactly what I'm looking for for mine.
I'm going to be selling them if you're interested :)
@@itsjoelI am, but they may be too much for me as I'm not fussed about the tyres as I want to size up to 255/55/20s.
If you hammer the actual socket, the wheel nut will eventually pop out.
Good video 👍👍
You should have used a 6 sided socket
Always wondered why brits always put mudflaps on their cars. A part from the obvious right side syeering wheel mud flaps are a dead giveaway the owner is a brit
I’d never use a main dealer personally. Over priced and unreliable service
So I did
i wanna know whats happened to the other range rover now 🥺
stay tuned / subscribed!
Old wheels look better they need to go back on
2000 likes on this video and I’ll do a fuel economy challenge in the Range Rover!
😄
Mines currently sat at 18.7 mpg!!! But it’s worth it!
Yeah the original wheels are so much nicer - they’re the proper original ones for it. The ones you have put on are off a Sport and that’s just a bit naff. I’d remove the mudflaps off the front too - would really improve it.
It looks odd having the mud flaps in the front and not the rear. If you're going to remove the rear, why not remove all four unless you're thinking of replacing the rear later on. Congratulations on your hard work.
Thanks Nathan, the reason I've left the front ones on for now is because removing and replacing them will be part of doing the side step install, however not sure if I will do that or not yet.
The cat 😂
Yes, my dog noticed the cat on the screen.
Joel, the Range Rover looks far better with Mudflaps on, front and back 👍
Finishes the look
Hmmm a lot of effort it has to be said. I think I prefer the original alloys. Mud flaps should be replaced. “Xenon” update a bit misleading… but try to find LED sidelights to match the colour temp on main headlights and look less chav. 👌🏼
I’d have kept the mud flaps and refurbished all the existing wheels. Saved yourself a load of hassle and trips to Halfords etc.. entertaining none the less 😜👍
Agree with you, the original wheels look better 👍 great effort on the changes though keep it up. I prefer the look without mudflaps, mine didn't come with them. I changed all my wheels nuts too, but kept locking nut however they need painting as out of place compared to others. Have fun!
thank god there's a video, i've been furiously checking my subscriptions for 2 weeks. great video joel, keep up the good work.
I concur with you that the old alloy wheels look better than the ones that you replaced them with. Thanks for sharing.
Mudflaps back on (unless you're going to replace the bumper) and don't fit the sidesteps. Original wheels will look better in the long run too. Good luck and stick with it!
For £300ish you could have just had the original rims refurbished 😅 A for effort though. Personally I'd keep your mud flaps, your paintwork will thank you for it and so will you on wash days.
If you want to keep it somewhat long term ish, pull the sill trims, rear arch liners and treat any rust any spray a rust killing and wax treatment.
That will help the notorious L322 wheel arch rust problem. Then from the inside , remove the side panels and get to the rear quarter panels. The rust you always see there is rusting from the inside out. By the time you get a rust bubble showing on the outside, it's too late.
I had a locking wheel nut issue and paid an expert £50 to remove all mine it took 5 mins per wheel which made me realise any wheel thief would do the same so pointless things!!
Really… ‘mud flap delete’. This strange practice of calling the removal of parts a ‘delete’ knows no bounds.
I would of left the mudflaps on 100% and would refurb the original wheels. Good luck 👍
Would have definitely kept THE MUDFLAPS👍👍👍👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧 from experience the blue side lights will probably last about a week!!!!!
Original wheels looked much better, the new ones from the sport look a bit cheesy
Good shout on all new nuts and ditching the locking ones. Regularly check for swollen nuts in future 👍
Nothing worse than swollen nuts!! 🤣😂
Swollen nuts can be so painful!
Job well done man I’d put the mud flaps back on to cover up the holes. Otherwise looks great I agree about the side steps
I like the wheels a good improvement. My only question is by changing the factory type bulbs to xenon type bulbs you are changing the specification of the car
lighting is this a MOT failure?
Hey Joel, i never saw you tighten the wheelnuts with a torque wrench? Quite a important thing to do when swapping wheels.
😂😂😂 I’m sorry, but really? Have you ever seen a a tyre shop use a torque wrench?
@@raymondmumford6255 They do here in the Netherlands. I think it’s quite stupid if you don’t.
Hi JOEL, GREAT VIDEO. What's THE WATCH PLEASE MATE??
it's this - super cheap! gb.dfranklincreation.com/products/scuba-diving-dark-camo-gold?gclid=CjwKCAjw9qiTBhBbEiwAp-GE0RosctaIXyQ6RZaXapRveCytMCX9J-vugvUDfvalaWBsrXNRpGkBPRoCmM0QAvD_BwE
Keep the mud flaps on and the new reams look very very nice....!
Mate you could've swam to Australia but the kangaroo would've kidnapped you
You couldn’t afford a refurb which is what you’d prefer. But you spent £300 removing the wheels to put on an inferior set. Could have refurbed after all! 😂
The sidelight bulbs you fitted are LED's not Zennon. And before hammering on the 22mm socket onto the WHEEL NUT (not Lug nut, you ain't a yank!) you should have tried a 23mm as some of those nuts have rusted under the stainless steel and caused them to swell up, and a 23 mm fits ok. You could have saved yourself a fortune lol yes probably the one you totally buggered would have needed heating up, but the rest would have come undone ok. Here's a little tip for you all. If something is really stuck and won't undo, try with the breaker bar to TIGHTEN IT FIRST. this little trick has got me out of trouble hundreds of times from small things to Land Rovers and bigger!
I remember the first time I cleaned my rims. Neighbours thought I’d brought new ones. Clean them ever time now.
2013 Ford Territory Titanium
2.7L TDCI V6
Your a nice lad Joel but do me a favour,
1 . Throw the shitty hammer over your neighbours fence
2. Reverse over that pissy breaker bar
3. Buy a decent 3/4 drive socket set
4. Sit back and admire new tools
👍👍👍
I may have clapped with glee, like a seal, when you got that locking wheel nut off.
Hey Joel. With the air suspension. You put it in the off road mode. At the highest setting and. Then when you jack up the range and put it back on the ground it won't be confused. Cool vid btw
Hi Joel, enjoy your videos and own the same car, wouldn’t it of been easier to take it to a local tyre garage to swop the wheels and saved yourself £250 in tools?
Like the alloys and would have kept the flaps, couldn’t personally put up with the holes or redundant fixings, cheers
Well done. Great work. Wheels and lights look fantastic. I would not remove the mudflaps from my Range Rover, living in a rural location the roads are full of mud during the winter. Excellent video
Also never ever let a bloody garage gun your wheels back on with a rattle gun. Dont' believe any of their BS about having a torque limiter or anything, they can't help themselves it's a flaming nightmre.
I think the new wheels looks so much better than the ones you managed to take off. They are more masculine, more powerful and suits the car better.
Cheers.
Good effort managing to get that nut off. Kinda wished you removed the plastic centre hub cap before blow torching, it could have saved it from burning.
I've had so many issues with locking wheel nuts in the past, mostly they just brake and then need to be cut off somehow. Now one of the first things I do is remove them before it's too late, so good move ditching them.
Who really steals wheels anymore?!..
exactly! people just steal the whole car...
I'll join the army of people saying to put the mudflaps back on again, they serve a purpose, and there are now multiple untidy looking bits on the rear bumper.
Did you put copper grease on the studs, before you put the nuts on? Also on the back of the wheel, where it meets the disc? If not, you may have to buy more sockets for next time you take the wheels off.
Also, put the mudflaps back on, to hide those holes. Oh, cute cat too !
The original wheels look much better. Would definitely recommend putting them back on and refurbishing them.
Next time a bolt gets stuck in the socket Joel all you need to do is hit the socket with a hammer and it will eventually come out, it essentially squashes the bolt out of the socket, just to save you spending money next time
next time, drive it to a back street tyre shop, and let them undo the nuts with a 'windy-gun'. good call on the dealer identification, and subsequent private purchase on the nut key though.
You spent 300 quid doing what your local tyre bay do ten times a day .... I hope the UA-cam cash helps pay for it .😁
It’s a lot of effort for one of the most unreliable cars known to man. I’ve had a couple of them. I’ve scratched that itch. Never again. I’d rather shit in my hands and clap. I’m sure there’s more for sale as spares and repairs than actually running
Nice one Joel, jobs like that build character 😁😁👍
With my RR, if I open the rear upper hatch while jacking up, the air springs stay put. Otherwise they seem to want to adjust to the raising and lowering. I think having one of the rear doors open might do the same thing.
Impact socket & driver would have them off in seconds.Smear them with copper ease, next time it won't be such a mare to get them off.
Why remove the mudflaps and leave a mess, and get the old wheels refurbed much better wheel your local tyre place would have changed them for an hrs Labour?????
Removing chewed up and rusty wheel nuts are an almost daily hazard for us tyre fitters. With practice it takes us a few minutes. Make a friend of a tyre fitter for any future issues.👍
Copprslip your wheel nuts before torqueing them up , you will not have that problem again , tin of it will last years and save you time next time .
I paid £10 for my replacement locking wheel nut key from landrover it cost more for the mechanic to find the one that fits
I'm with Matt, would of kept the mud flaps on.. Plus they protect the body work..
you didn't round the nut, you rounded the thin tin cover that sits over the head of the nut to make it look smarter & as for stuck on socket, screw the nut back in a few turns & stick an extension bar on & jiggle it about, it will come off after a minute or two
I’d get those mud flaps back on, like the wheels though! When’s the straight pipe going on?
I think you should have cleaned up the surface on the discs where the wheel makes contact. Had this cause vibrations for me
funniest one yet 🤣😂
The old wheels are far better style wise.
I was crying watching you struggle with the wheels (crying with laffter)
Using words like tuggin, getting on knees and handling balls this video should be 18+
Never understood why people remove mud-flaps they are there to protect the vehicle and stop spray and stone hitting car behind
Lando made me follow
You've put older generation alloys on made the car look a lot older by removing the facelift alloys!
Those eBay LED’s will last a month tops
and then I get to do it again! :)
I would be lost without my side steps, also may I suggest upgrading the side vents.
looks really nice. I'd have kept the mudflaps but that's just me .
I have to say Joel, being an engineer, these last two vids with you on the tools, has made me cringe !
Watch out for Lando at Mot time, having an unsecured cat would be a fail.
Yay, I've been waiting for a new vid
Joel great content but Kwik fit charges 80 for four wheels.
Aren't they just chrome cover's that pop off to reveal the nuts? 🤣🤣
Joel mate what a terrible use of your time. Firstly I would have kept the mudflaps especially now you have left holes and screws etc in the rear arches. Secondly, as soon as you encountered any difficulty removing the fronts, then why didn't you take it to your nearest tyre centre. I am sure they deal with this sort of problem all the time, and for a few quid, far less physical effort, huge saving in time, and far less of a hit to your wallet you would have had the Rangie sorted in probably 30-60 minutes!!! 🙂
Great use of my time, I got to make a video, learn more skills, get loads of new tools and have the satisfaction of doing it myself 👍🏻
You may have spent over £300 on changing the wheels but you also have all those tools for future use so the money isn’t wasted and you know the wheels come off better knowing you had an issue on the drive rather than on the side of the M25. It’s something I always check now with a new to me car is the jack and everything is there and working when I get the car home having been caught out in the past.
Exactly, got all the tools for future jobs now!
It's always the smallest jobs that cause the biggest headache
Not sure I’d ever own a RR (as lovely as they are) but all these videos are making me long for a project car!
It would be the best possible project car for sure. Really fun to work on.
