In all seriousness, had Windu given Anakin some task to do then things would have turned out very differently. Maybe have asked him to help out a group of younglings with their lightsabre practice? Something to occupy his mind and give him a chance to show off a bit, plus that could have been seen as preparation for mastery and demonstrated trust in him.
I think the main problem is that mace told anakin to wait and do nothing and anakin is known to be very impatient, if mace would've given anakin a mission like "inform the senate about palpatine" or something everything probably would've been fine.

Iirc in legends Palpatine was using Sith magic (it’s a thing in the EU) to torture him with visions in his dreams. Along with Y’know actually grooming him like space Jeffry Epstine. So Palpatine shuffling off the mortal coil would actually end most of Anakin’s torment. Least until the blue guy activated operation cinder as part of Palpatine’s “if I can’t have it fuck everyone” contingency.
It really was not about just being a master though, at that point Anakin literally could not just sit there and do nothing while a loved one died. Windu only knew that Palpatine was Anakin's father figure, not that he was going to lose his wife as well.

Though without Palpatine and the Empire to keep hunting down all the survivors it would at least have been less effective.
Yeah, Anakin was a little bummed out about being left out of the fight. But in the end he quite appreciated having the evening to himself. Got around to ordering those things he needs to setup the nursery for when the twins are born. Caught up on his Crunchy Roll backlog. And with no one else in the chamber, he could finally confirm that Master Plo Koon WAS hogging the extra pillow for his chair even though he claimed it had gone missing weeks ago. Decent day all in all.

The more I learn and think about the prequel canon, the more I realize that its tragic end could have easily been prevented at nearly every step. If the jedi had bought Anakin's mother into freedom, he wouldn't have turned to the dark side. The main cast in the Clone Wars show were a few rooms away from discovering the inhibitor chips, which would've prevented order 66. Anakin waiting five more minutes before checking in on Chancellor Palpatine's arrest would've led to the arrest being successful, Anakin being granted the rank of master, Padme probably living, and the Galactic Empire never forming. I suppose you could say that the real tragedy was that it never needed to happen.
Hell even if Mace had brought Anakin along with the masters to arrest Palpatine things could have gone differently...although I imagine Palpatine probably had some scheme for that.
to be fair, the death of palpatine to the jedi would still cause yet another civil war in all likelihood. No galactic empire but still not a nice happy ending. I could even see a bunch of jedi ending up on the separatist side after the senate inevitably sided with palpatine and denounced the jedi.

Or he could have been promoted to Warden of the Jedi Order. The rank was given to influential Jedi who saved the Order from imminent extinction. Anakin warning Mace of Palpatine and stopping his plan would have made Anakin suitable for the rank plus the rank basically means you're a Jedi Grandmaster in all but name.

Fun fact: In a novelisation of that scene, it was revealed that Kit Fisto would actually have lived (or at least held on for longer) but he was thrown off by Anakin's presence being there, then Palpatine took his chance to cut him down.
I still maintain that if Anakin had gone to literally anyone but Yoda about his visions, he'd have gotten more helpful advice, and palps would have lost that pressure lever that saved him from Windu. Using windu as an example: Rather than being told to ignore his visions, Windu, using his experience with Shatterpoints, would be more likely to ask Anakin 'do we have enough details to act on it?' Anakin's feelings of isolation within the order were a big part of why Sidious was able to manipulate him so strongly, and if Anakin had felt like literally anyone beyond Obi-wan gave a damn, his odds of falling decrease DRASTICALLY. Would everything be happy go lucky afterward? Probably not, the Star wars universe is full of problems, after all, but it would have certainly caused a VERY different chain of events.
It should be "If Anakin went to speak with other Jedi besides Yoda". Kit Fisto, Plo-Koon and Ki-Adi Mundi would have given him much better advice regarding his issues and visions if Anakin went out of his shell to approach them.

For the situation at hand, with an active and CURRENT problem, it was horrifically bad advice. Especially given that the last time something like this happened, Anakin's mom died because he waited too long to try to do something about it. Yoda's 'advice' boiled down to 'get over it, greedy boi' delivered in a cold and dispassionate tone. That is ABSOLUTELY the worst approach to take to a scared individual who you KNOW has prophetic visions asking for help on what to do about the visions.Yoda basically told him to not even try. Anakin wasn't asking for some vague philosophical nonsense, he was asking what he should do in response to the visions, what ACTIONS he may be able to take. Instead, Yoda did the equivalent of telling a depressed person to just stop being depressed.

That it's inevitable and can't be stopped and to appreciate people in your life instead of dwelling on and obsessing over those that are dead. And Padme died because Anakin tried to stop it thus creating a self-fulfilling prophecy instead of following Yoda's advice and not dwelling on it. Which was the point and Anakin's fatal flaw that led to his downfall: He can't let go and accept loss.

He was getting too powerful and I was afraid that... Yoda: Fear leads to anger! Anger leads to hate! Hate leads to suffering!
I don't know if Mace could have waited though. Anakin already confronted Sidious, so the game was up. If they waited, it was very possible that Sidious would have triggered Order 66 while Yoda and Obi-Wan were in hyperspace.
@@HappyBeezerStudios That's the tricky thing about seeing the future. It's either a future that would occur if you didn't see the future or a future that would occur because you saw it. Either way, while the information is potentially useful, it's impractical to obsess over. The larger problem though was that Anakin's emotional support network was cut off due to the Jedi's refusal to allow the Jedi to form emotional attachments. That isolation made him vulnerable to emotional manipulation by the Dark Lord. ... Jar Jar Binks. :P (hey, it would have been canonical if Jar Jar didn't become popular with little kids. You can totally see Jar Jar using the force to compel people to say things with his mouth moving in line with theirs and you can totally tell that while he acted the fool he fought like a drunken master. i want to see the alternative timeline where they kept that twist.)

There is something deeply frustrating about this kind of scenario. Anakin not listening and showing up at the worst possible time caused pretty much every horrible thing that followed. Him waiting would even have saved Padme (probably), and Anakin would (probably) have just lived a happy life with her and his children.
But the whole point is anakin was being drawn to the dark side at that point, and we already know most people affected by the dark side become rash and unthinking. That's why the sith need to train so long, just so they have self control.

i always find it wild that the jedi that came to arrest palpatine got deleted so easily. it just doesnt look right seeing them not put up any defense at all at first when dude is literally flipping at them with a lightsaber.
This bothered me too, I've definitely seen better sword fights than this in the series prior and they were all suppose to be masters right? I honestly did expect it to come down to Windu and the chancellor but not that fast...the fight between the two was a little lack luster as well. Like they used up all their remaining budget by this point in the movie making process.

In this timeline, the council room was fitted with upbeat and addictive elevator music, so Anakin was never bothered with anything that seemed unfair since he was always chilling in the room. Great job, buddy!

It'd be hilarious if Anakin still turned to the dark side because he lost his mind waiting for an hour. Essentially the rest of Ep3 all the way through to Ep9 plays in his mind as a premonition and it makes him go insane because he doesn't understand how a random girl who is somehow later revealed to be Sidious' heir then takes his name out of nowhere.

Their mistake was not taking Yoda with them, yes I know he was somewhere else but they should have nonetheless asked Yoda to come with them before trying to arrest Sheev. Mace with Yoda would have been unbeatable.

Dooku could fly, and so could several others. It was described as incredibly taxing. However, levitation was common, so I don't see why they didn't use that. There were even instances of jedi falling hundreds of feet, landing on their feet, and walking it off. IIRC, Mace did it in the clone wars.
@@muzanjackson8827 My guess is that most could only levitate while meditating, so they had to be stationary first, and then they'd just hover in place with no lateral movement.
In one of the prequels, Yoda is levitating while still being able to talk. This could argue that force-wielders can stay verbal while concentrating, but then again it's Yoda.
One of the things that always bothered me with the original is that it’s the middle of the day when Mace leaves to confront Palpatine, but doesn’t actually arrive at the Chancellor’s office until it’s already nighttime. What was he doing, taking the scenic route? Him taking so long just to face Lalpatine gave Anakin enough time to form doubt in his mind about the possibility of losing the only potential means he had of saving Padme.
The Chancellor's Office is further from the Jedi Temple where it is night already. Like it's dusk at the Temple, and Coruscant is a city planet, so the place where the Chancellor's Hall is already in night. Also Mace had to get the other Jedi to go with him (as there's a difference between a few Jedi being all "hey return your powers we killed Grievous" and "lol you're the Sith Lord causing all this shit and we have proof" (meaning you need actually skilled Jedi)

I like how Anakin warned Windu about Palpatine and was a-okay with him going to arrest Palpatine, but chose to not sit still for 30 minutes and wiped out the Jedi order with that one decision. Kid had no issue following Qui-Gon’s wishes but god forbid the adult life.
Sure... if by "stay in that cockpit" you think Qui-Gon meant "Flip all the switches, get deeply involved in an orbital siege and blow up random power generators". Anakin could *never* keep out of the action even when he was legitimately trying to. It's almost like the Force had a plan for him. > _>
This is absolutely hilarious and well-edited, and forgive me for trying to get too deep here, but actually this is a great example of Taoism in action. If you try to explain it some people, they'll be like "how can you accomplish so much by doing nothing?" Well, sometimes literally "not doing" is the best option of all.
For one, I think Dooku trains anakin. Qui-gon was dooku's apprentice so I think upon his death he'd make good on Qui-gon's promise to train anakin. Whether or not he would be a better master for anakin than Obi-wan was isn't as clear but he was more mature than kenobi which some people have theorized was a contributing factor to Anakin's struggle, Obi-wan while great wasn't ready to handle a padawan.
Someone should really make a Star Wars "what if" where everything goes great. Luke and Anakin are both Jedis...they team up occasionally for missions. Obi-wan sometimes joins in and they all trade snide remarks for fun. The republic thrives with Padme in a central role. There's conflict but it never leads to tragedy. Their lives are mostly a comedy. All is good in the galaxy. All is well.
i hate how easily palpatine beats the three jedi masters, bros trained their entire lives for that moment only to get wiped out within the first five seconds
None of them ever stood a chance. Some would even argue that Mace only got the upper hand because Ol' Palpy knew it would give more drama for when Ani steps in. Considering how much more... finesse he showed when he literally turned the entire senate inside out in his fight against Yoda, it would not be surprising that typical Sith apprentices are more than a match against most Jedi (Maul, Dooku, Vader), while a Sith Master's prowess is almost incomprehensible.

In all seriousness, had Windu given Anakin some task to do then things would have turned out very differently. Maybe have asked him to help out a group of younglings with their lightsabre practice? Something to occupy his mind and give him a chance to show off a bit, plus that could have been seen as preparation for mastery and demonstrated trust in him.
I think the main problem is that mace told anakin to wait and do nothing and anakin is known to be very impatient, if mace would've given anakin a mission like "inform the senate about palpatine" or something everything probably would've been fine.

Iirc in legends Palpatine was using Sith magic (it’s a thing in the EU) to torture him with visions in his dreams. Along with Y’know actually grooming him like space Jeffry Epstine.

It really was not about just being a master though, at that point Anakin literally could not just sit there and do nothing while a loved one died. Windu only knew that Palpatine was Anakin's father figure, not that he was going to lose his wife as well.

Yeah, Anakin was a little bummed out about being left out of the fight. But in the end he quite appreciated having the evening to himself. Got around to ordering those things he needs to setup the nursery for when the twins are born. Caught up on his Crunchy Roll backlog. The more I learn and think about the prequel canon, the more I realize that its tragic end could have easily been prevented at nearly every step.
If the jedi had bought Anakin's mother into freedom, he wouldn't have turned to the dark side.
The main cast in the Clone Wars show were a few rooms away from discovering the inhibitor chips, which would've prevented order 66.
Anakin waiting five more minutes before checking in on Chancellor Palpatine's arrest would've led to the arrest being successful, Anakin being granted the rank of master, Padme probably living, and the Galactic Empire never forming.
I suppose you could say that the real tragedy was that it never needed to happen.
Hell even if Mace had brought Anakin along with the masters to arrest Palpatine things could have gone differently...although I imagine Palpatine probably had some scheme for that.
to be fair, the death of palpatine to the jedi would still cause yet another civil war in all likelihood. No galactic empire but still not a nice happy ending. I could even see a bunch of jedi ending up on the separatist side after the senate inevitably sided with palpatine and denounced the jedi.

Or he could have been promoted to Warden of the Jedi Order. The rank was given to influential Jedi who saved the Order from imminent extinction. Anakin warning Mace of Palpatine and stopping his plan would have made Anakin suitable for the rank plus the rank basically means you're a Jedi Grandmaster in all but name.

Fun fact: In a novelisation of that scene, it was revealed that Kit Fisto would actually have lived (or at least held on for longer) but he was thrown off by Anakin's presence being there, then Palpatine took his chance to cut him down.

The Novel version of this fight is so much better, would definitely recommend to others.
I still maintain that if Anakin had gone to literally anyone but Yoda about his visions, he'd have gotten more helpful advice, and palps would have lost that pressure lever that saved him from Windu. Using windu as an example: Rather than being told to ignore his visions, Windu, using his experience with Shatterpoints, would be more likely to ask Anakin 'do we have enough details to act on it?' Anakin's feelings of isolation within the order were a big part of why Sidious was able to manipulate him so strongly, and if Anakin had felt like literally anyone beyond Obi-wan gave a damn, his odds of falling decrease DRASTICALLY.
Would everything be happy go lucky afterward? Probably not, the Star wars universe is full of problems, after all, but it would have certainly caused a VERY different chain of events.
The weird thing is, Yoda is among the oldest, stoic, and most experienced Jedi. Diversifying insight would have helped.
It should be "If Anakin went to speak with other Jedi besides Yoda". Kit Fisto, Plo-Koon and Ki-Adi Mundi would have given him much better advice regarding his issues and visions if Anakin went out of his shell to approach them.
Yoda's advice was helpful though. It just wasn't what Anakin wanted to hear.

Yoda's 'advice' boiled down to 'get over it, greedy boi' delivered in a cold and dispassionate tone.
That is ABSOLUTELY the worst approach to take to a scared individual who you KNOW has prophetic visions asking for help on what to do about the visions.Yoda basically told him to not even try. Anakin wasn't asking for some vague philosophical nonsense, he was asking what he should do in response to the visions, what ACTIONS he may be able to take.
Instead, Yoda did the equivalent of telling a depressed person to just stop being depressed.

I don't know if Mace could have waited though. Anakin already confronted Sidious, so the game was up. If they waited, it was very possible that Sidious would have triggered Order 66 while Yoda and Obi-Wan were in hyperspace.

Either way, while the information is potentially useful, it's impractical to obsess over. The larger problem though was that Anakin's emotional support network was cut off due to the Jedi's refusal to allow the Jedi to form emotional attachments. That isolation made him vulnerable to emotional manipulation by the Dark Lord.

Anakin not listening and showing up at the worst possible time caused pretty much every horrible thing that followed.
Him waiting would even have saved Padme (probably), and Anakin would (probably) have just lived a happy life with her and his children.
That's how George Lucas wanted it. He wanted Anakin's story to be a tragedy.

This bothered me too, I've definitely seen better sword fights than this in the series prior and they were all suppose to be masters right? I honestly did expect it to come down to Windu and the chancellor but not that fast...the fight between the two was a little lack luster as well. Like they used up all their remaining budget by this point in the movie making process.

I just love the idea of Mace Sparta-kicking Palpy to his demise. Could honestly see Samuel L. Jackson requesting that instead of dying in a cool way had the story of this series been different.

In this timeline, the council room was fitted with upbeat and addictive elevator music, so Anakin was never bothered with anything that seemed unfair since he was always chilling in the room.

It'd be hilarious if Anakin still turned to the dark side because he lost his mind waiting for an hour. Essentially the rest of Ep3 all the way through to Ep9 plays in his mind as a premonition and it makes him go insane because he doesn't understand how a random girl who is somehow later revealed to be Sidious' heir then takes his name out of nowhere.
IDK, based on where he's standing it seems pretty obvious how it happened. Sidious being Sidious n all. Still its funny to imagine everyone coming back to see all the Younglings dead because he needed something to do.

Windu comes back expecting anakin will be conflicted and he's clearly bored and just killing time. Like, playing solitaire or trying to stack random stuff into a tower or flipping a water bottle or something
Even in the good timeline where Anakin listens, Kit Fisto and the other two are still jobbers that died in less than a minute.
They didn't stand a chance. Maybe Mace shouldn't have taken them with him, or left them to guard the exits so that Palpatine wouldn't escape.

Their mistake was not taking Yoda with them, yes I know he was somewhere else but they should have nonetheless asked Yoda to come with them before trying to arrest Sheev. Mace with Yoda would have been unbeatable.

Still haven't figured out why, despite being able to lift many times their own body weight using the force, Jedi and Sith can't fly.
Dooku could fly, and so could several others. It was described as incredibly taxing. However, levitation was common, so I don't see why they didn't use that. There were even instances of jedi falling hundreds of feet, landing on their feet, and walking it off. IIRC, Mace did it in the clone wars.
@@muzanjackson8827 My guess is that most could only levitate while meditating, so they had to be stationary first, and then they'd just hover in place with no lateral movement.
In one of the prequels, Yoda is levitating while still being able to talk. This could argue that force-wielders can stay verbal while concentrating, but then again it's Yoda.

One of the things that always bothered me with the original is that it’s the middle of the day when Mace leaves to confront Palpatine, but doesn’t actually arrive at the Chancellor’s office until it’s already nighttime. What was he doing, taking the scenic route? Him taking so long just to face Lalpatine gave Anakin enough time to form doubt in his mind about the possibility of losing the only potential means he had of saving Padme.
The Chancellor's Office is further from the Jedi Temple where it is night already. Like it's dusk at the Temple, and Coruscant is a city planet, so the place where the Chancellor's Hall is already in night.
Also Mace had to get the other Jedi to go with him (as there's a difference between a few Jedi being all "hey return your powers we killed Grievous" and "lol you're the Sith Lord causing all this shit and we have proof" (meaning you need actually skilled Jedi)
Its actually sad that mace windu told anakin to stay because he wanted to grant him the rank of master if chancellor was actually a sith lord that's why he said "you will gain my trust"
I want to see a reasonable Anakin that discuses actually liking sand with Padme. Also a more politically correct Anakin who appreciates democracy.
And an unreasonable obi wan who doesn't pledge his allegiance to democracy, to the republic.

I like how Anakin warned Windu about Palpatine and was a-okay with him going to arrest Palpatine, but chose to not sit still for 30 minutes and wiped out the Jedi order with that one decision. Kid had no issue following Qui-Gon’s wishes but god forbid the adult life.
Sure... if by "stay in that cockpit" you think Qui-Gon meant "Flip all the switches, get deeply involved in an orbital siege and blow up random power generators".
Anakin could *never* keep out of the action even when he was legitimately trying to. It's almost like the Force had a plan for him. > _>

This is absolutely hilarious and well-edited, and forgive me for trying to get too deep here, but actually this is a great example of Taoism in action. If you try to explain it some people, they'll be like "how can you accomplish so much by doing nothing?" Well, sometimes literally "not doing" is the best option of all.

For one, I think Dooku trains anakin. Qui-gon was dooku's apprentice so I think upon his death he'd make good on Qui-gon's promise to train anakin. Whether or not he would be a better master for anakin than Obi-wan was isn't as clear but he was more mature than kenobi which some people have theorized was a contributing factor to Anakin's struggle, Obi-wan while great wasn't ready to handle a padawan.
@@matthewmcnabb1479 Dooku was also a far superior force user to Obi-Wan. He would have trained the chosen one properly in its use.

Someone should really make a Star Wars "what if" where everything goes great. Luke and Anakin are both Jedis...they team up occasionally for missions. Obi-wan sometimes joins in and they all trade snide remarks for fun. The republic thrives with Padme in a central role. There's conflict but it never leads to tragedy. Their lives are mostly a comedy.
All is good in the galaxy. All is well.

i hate how easily palpatine beats the three jedi masters, bros trained their entire lives for that moment only to get wiped out within the first five seconds
None of them ever stood a chance. Some would even argue that Mace only got the upper hand because Ol' Palpy knew it would give more drama for when Ani steps in.
Considering how much more... finesse he showed when he literally turned the entire senate inside out in his fight against Yoda, it would not be surprising that typical Sith apprentices are more than a match against most Jedi (Maul, Dooku, Vader), while a Sith Master's prowess is almost incomprehensible.
