Ay whassup
Stop hitting the same drum bro
Now I noticed that you have more guitar pedals than most of the stores in my country :D
Acoustic Fella are you from pitcairn or something? 😂
I'm from Uruguay and can day the same thing 😂
India!
From Nepal! Put together all the pedals from all the music stores and it still won't suffice.
That's true
Instructions unclear, started licking other guitars.
Hey man thank you so much for this. This lesson could not come at a better time for me. Keep up the good work man, we're all so grateful!
I said it before I'll say it again your the man Tyler thanks for the tips
Stop Playing the Same Guitar Chords!
I want no more 1 3 5, or 1 b3 5, i want the guitar out of tune. I want massive feedback so you can't hear a note. I want a flute you can plug into an amp. I want only amputees to play. I want mandatory LSD before playing. etc etc etc.
I've heard this is Brian May's approach to playing lead, playing notes within the chords, not necessarily playing from a scale.
This helps a lot man! Even just you telling us that we need to change things up, and think more about the notes other than stick with a rule helps a lot! Thanks man!
I noticed at one point you used a Bb over the Cadd9, I thought it was a pretty creative thing to do, choosing a b7 rather than a major 7th. Really cool!
You are a fantastic teacher, sir. Thank you.
this is the only music is win video that I have ever gotten anything out of
This must be the first of my videos you’ve seen. ;p
@@MusicisWin This is actually really pretentious.
@@Oilid it's also meant sarcastic, hence the smiley face.
Plus it's bloody hilarious.
dude your vids are amazing!!!!!!
please dont stop
One thing I can't stop is watching ur great vids!
Hey look it’s that guitar guy!
👍🏼👊🏼🤘🏼
stop playing the same guitar videos also helps.. this channel is all unique videos ❤️
I want that guitar neck!!! WOW!!! GREAT VIDEOS Tyler! Please keep em coming!!!
Gee, now i understand everything! Thanks man!
Hey Man Just Stopping By To Say Thanks For the Mind expansion over the Years. Appreciate your Input and Experiance. Rock on! Cheers!
WAIT I wanna ammend my previous comment, this chord progression is amazingly dreamy and I CANT wait to jam on it. Your ideas of using theory as a tool belt are bang on, cheers man
10:20 this had me in a whole other universe. Absolutely mind blowing.
Love all your videos bro
The part where he said about still having your comfortable licks but adding little more sprinkles to it was always how I tend to look at learning how to improvise or create your own melody/solo kind of things. But after watching the whole video, it put the process into a better perspective and lit a lightbulb in my head for more ideas so thank you Tyler for this awesome lesson. :)
The neck and headstock on that guitar....simply stunning!
Roasted maple
It's musicman. Did you expect anything less??
@@mrjudgypants Do you know what guitar
@@jakedean8560 its from valentine collection. Saturn gold.
Nobody cares
Thanks dude I will use this advice and use it to improve my playing!!🤟
Thank you so much. Just listening to this is really opening a lot of things for me. I just realised that the Natural Minor/Major can directly "connect" to the Pentatonic scale.
This channel is so freaking good
lavasava333 ya and a sell out
Jk
no kidding, I thought he was a huge fan of the Boss Katana Air?!?!
Oooh, baby! Great playing, man. Good tips also.
Imrovising only using my ears is something I sometimes do without being conscient of it and thanks to your video, I'll know focus more on how I want notes to sound instead of doing repetitive licks. Thanks!
Very nice phrasing. Nicely done.
6:31 The B note doesn’t work with the G#. Unless you’re the guy from Weezer. Then that works perfectly fine. 😂😂😂
Gabriel Alô if you want to destroy my sweater
There are no wrong notes, just notes played badly. Like my guitar teacher told me: You have to know the rules before you break them.
I'm me, me be. God damn, I am.
Nice playing. Good advice. I often over play similar riffs. It’s actually helpful to record to hear better. Sometimes something that sounded okay at the time was too busy.
Great stuff thx!
You always seem to answer my guitar problems that I haven’t even realized I had it.
Thanks so much bro im gona try it
This video is exactly what i was in need
Nice video sir, I enjoy them.
That’s a great little chord change. Echos of David Gilmour, and Regret #9 from Steven Wilson’s Hand Cannot Erase album. I *love* vamping to stuff like that.
Also, my favorite videos of yours are ones like this where you actually talk about music, play a little, maybe talk about or demonstrate a bit of technique or similar. Gear and new guitar vids are all well and good but like this stuff even better, as it’s very unlikely I’ll ever be able to afford the gear you get to play and demo. But hey, variety is the spice right? So it’s all good. Peace 🤘🏼
Thank you!
Good stuff!
"stop playing the same guitar licks"
Uses the same bend vibrato at the start of every phrase.
I think it's really important to be versatile... not just with licks but with tone and genre... I like switching up between fingerstyle acoustic guitar and overdriven electric guitar. being well rounded at guitar makes you a better guitarist
Guitarized agreed, I’ve found as a song writer that sometimes when I can’t find a verse that matches with a chorus sometimes it’s best to write that verse in a different genre, for example a song I recently wrote has a hard rock/modern metal chorus (although the vocals are more rock then metal) and a funk inspired verse
at 10:36 you are channeling the great Nels Cline of Wilco ! Outstanding as always..
love the guitar!
Augmented arpeggios and the whole tone scale would work great. Also the minor hexatonic scale would work too which is the pentatonic scale with an added second which can be played over add 9 chords and the Lydian mode can be mixed with the minor hexatonic scale to make it more interesting. Mixing up these scales with the whole tone scale works great.
U lost me at augmented
I love augmented arpeggios
I mainly play on the acoustic with some occasional chord embellishments so classic Lydian major scale is my home sweet home. That being said, I do sometimes bust out some pretty neat stuffs with sevenths, add9s and suspendeds.
Something... flux capicitor... turbo retro encabulator, something something...
Haha completely joking. Sus chord and lydian scale junkie checking in...
I agree to an extent... I would encourage players to learn the basic sounds of those scales and modes. However there is a danger in relying too much on scales. At a point they can start becoming more mechanical than musical. Scales are good tools to start with.
Wowie Maui love that Valentine!!!
That flame maple is sick!!!!
Bought the wireless system for my 700 sq foot apartment #freedom
Very Jeff Beck feel on that phrasing! Sounds great 👍
I'm confused. I've been doing this for years and you finally had me convinced to learn more theory to raise that ceiling I've be belting up against.
Tyler what did you think of your #TryNotToShredChallange that was fun I submitted a video with others did u get a chance to check any of the videos out ?
Damn,I've never thought about this, thanks
That tone is soo smooth, is it to do with the compressor or what is it?
This is for me, thanks
great job very sweet
Ah music man. I used to work there in the set up department. Wonderful guitars.
You are by far my second favorite guitar youtuber (what can I say rob scallon is really freakin cute)
That being said just bought guitar super system and can't wait to start learning me some more theory
Guitar's sound is beautiful ❤️
That bridge pickup had me so confused when I got a close up look at it
Almost fell asleep watching, was so peaceful
Love that trichorus sound
8:57 sounds like the opening lick on "Anything Goes" from Appetite for Destruction. Nice :)
I was kinda digging the C mixolidian blues over the that. But I play mixolydian blues much of the time. I'm actually trying to get back to using more of my old school diatonic runs.
Thanks:)
Like that gold guitar reminds of the guitar Nigel pulsford BUSH guitarist guitar
What wood is that fingerboard made out of?
What's up with the nut on that guitar? It looks like a double nut or like it has a groove down the middle.
I was just about to dm you about this exact thing
I want that guitar😍
I tried to buy the nux wireless and it wouldn't accept the discount code so I didn't buy it. What's up with that.
Him: - Stop using the same licks
Me: - NO! NEVAH!!!
So basically applying relative pitch to not just single notes but also entire scales for improv?
I don't like it when its too contrived... like Rush - we need an 11th / 18th time with a pentatonic minor E flat followed by a C7 major add 6.... but does it sound good?
It's impossible not to use music theory to assist yourself mentally with writing when you know it extensively. Love that neck.

Is the B-2 system better than the Xvive? Looking to get one of them soon.
very interesting video, dare i suggest increasing the aperture on your lens to have the whole guitar neck in focus. :)
Sounds like proto-Grunge. Like Cranberries or Smashing Pumpkins but more 80s sounding with the lead guitar
Tyler: Stop playing the same licks!
Adam Neely: *plays the licc for 5 hours straight*
The name of his guitar! Please! Its just sooo stunning!!
Rabea Massaad is a real master of this principle. White Dove's solo is like the perfect example of what you're explaining.
I really feel like you're one of the most dedicated youtubers on this site...
I can't find a single video on your channel that isn't extremely well made and I think that there's no reason why you wouldn't the biggest musician on youtube.
I have to rewind the video. I don´t listen to what you say and I just stare at that yellow Music Man.
The link for the wireless system isn’t working for me
Can someone please explain HOW DID HE GET C MINOR
This guy is good
Great melody and lol at 'Wankery so it were' 😂
Whenever I solo I just do the same blues/classic rock licks, it’s still fun though
That claim code is invalid on amazon.
7:30 almost sounds like wow by beck
this is 100% me. every time i go hone and hold my guitar. i always play the same riff again and again. 😓😂
What guitar is that?
Is that wireless receiver at risk of being snapped off? Seems vulnerable lol
Oh cool, I kinda do this. When I play a progression that goes back and forth between the first and flat seventh, e.i., DM & CM (M = major). I'll switch between the D and G major scales, to G instead of C because the way I play it, the actual key seems to go more towards G. Or I'll play in the D Mixolydian mode through the whole thing (which actually is the same as G Ionian (major)). Music is fun. Sometimes, you have no idea what's going on theoretically, but you know it sounds good. Like the Super Mario Bros. theme, that one's all over the place, and can't place it in any mode of the major scale. Maybe jazz? lol
Super Mario Bros is in the chromatic scale
*+HeartyCoffee* Oh, so just all twelve notes?
Damn coupon code doesn't work anymore!
So how does the B sound fits the Cmaj chord? It's not on the C minor pentatonic or C minor natural scale? It's not on the Eb Major scale as well? O_O How did that B get there and why does it sound good?
B is the Maj VII in the key of C
The nut on ur guitar appears to b metal of some kind , what might that b made of ? I like to try different things now n then.
I'll play whatever I Goddamn what! You're not my real Dad!
That’s what Luke Skywalker said...
Search your feelings... You know it to be true.
Ricky, sweetie. I know it's a big change but you can learn to love him as your real dad
He might not be your dad ...but.. is he your daddy
What's a dad?
How do you know? Your Momma rode anything that was even remotely rigid and swallowed the rest.
By watching this video i just realise that i already discovered this technique. By using ear and some guitar licks that i always see in tutorial videos about music theory.
I don't know but I find meself getting new ideas in my unconscious after watching Matt Heafy doing covers of pop songs with me fingers going somewhere else and getting different but pleasant sounds.
It's time to practice & remember the scale pentatonic
How doi even learn how to play like that? My fingers just don't move that way. I've tried.
i can play rhythm guitar decently but when it comes to playing lead and improvising i draw blanks.i dont even know where to begin.i dont know notes and cant read music.
