Lichen's brought a whole new element to these shows. I saw them twice, once on acid, and it was fucking mindblowing. I had to sit down during Lichens solo set and at one point I looked back as he layered vocal after vocal until the speakers were near exploding and the entire club was sitting there entranced. Then Al and Emil come out with this incredibly dynamic between them, Lichens complimenting and filling everything perfectly, Al's bass tone the consistency of warm fluid washing over my entire body and consuming me....this is transcendental to see. nobody can leave this show without being stunned. even mate's that never heard of Om before were fucking shook by the perfromance. i cant even listen to the album versions now as they sound so weak compared to the power of them live.
Is Lichen the black guy with the synth and vocals? He is sooo good i totally agree he adds so much. Om is good but I wish they would have made him a permanent member.

The reason of which is, because study and contemplation do in some sort withdraw from us our soul, and employ it separately from the body, which is a kind of apprenticeship and a resemblance of death; or else, because all the wisdom and reasoning in the world do in the end conclude this point to teach us not to fear to die. Where death waits for us is uncertain; let us look for her everywhere: the premeditation of death is the premeditation of liberty. He who has learned to die has unlearned to serve. cool - and if you skip ahead roughly 30-90 seconds at a time - again and again - it sounds identical to simply listening straight through! It's amazing!
Om is Orthodox Christian and 1666 has nothing to do with anything. Now that I think about it, I suppose the great London Fire happened in 1666. Something like 16,000 homes burned along with St Paul's cathedral and dozens more churches burned, but on the positive side it stopped the Grate Plague. But no prophetic connection to Lucifer, Satan, or the rest of Legion.
@Napalm The whole point is droning the bass, too many strums. Less is more. The staccato of strumming ruins the trance-vibes. It's like a didgeridoo player taking breaths instead of being consistent. It doesn't help he's playing sloppy and frivolously, either, particularly on the chorus/solo. It's just unnecessary. "Keep it simple, stupid". I didn't even play bass yet when I commented originally, stand by my point. I used to listen to this song's original recording literally every day... The lack of a consistent drone is a creative decision that I don't agree with. If you're going to staccato, the timing has to be like Tabla level of perfect. In the pocket like a mother fucker. And he's not, he sounds drunk here. Sloppy bass on such a simple line just reminds me of the bassist from Khruangbin being sloppy live. Listen to Zakir Hussain if you want to hear proper timing.
@Napalm Art/music/beauty in the eye of the beholder, nothing wrong with disagreeing at all whatsoever, in general. No point in having an opinion if you only emulate others, so I would rather you listen for yourself and make your own assessments, anyways. That's the whole point of music. And yeah, jamming this style can be a lot of fun. It's a double edged sword to want to hear perfect timing, gets in the way of appreciation sometimes. At the same time, always striving to be better is a part of playing music. Thick as a Brick - Jethro Tull is a good example that it's better to enjoy than to know. The 1977 Live in London version is the best. ua-cam.com/video/hAt1b21S97k/v-deo.html

Love the music, but the title puzzles me.

That's what makes Om so fucking special. Their songs are monotonous as fuck, but still set the athmosphere like no other.
Better than sex
Can not put like on this video because is at 1666 sorry!

there is no good live Om videos
The drummer is almost too good
Sleep is way way better
No
where do you go when you sleep?
He fucked up the bassline, idc if it's creative and different from recording it kinda sucks.

why such a downgrade in drums?
Melchizedek I think Emil Amos is a badass drummer perfect timing and so technical at the right times, better than haikus in my opinion
Yes i agree but i think the drums arent as complex as in the record
what a fucking edgy song name
Only if you interpret it as such. If you decide that "death" is an "edgy" concept. But why would we decide death is "edgy" when it's a natural part of life?
Prepare for the putrefaction of your physical body, only the spirit will transcend, learn to let go, no attachments to chain you
dope song. meh drums.
