    Lichen's brought a whole new element to these shows. I saw them twice, once on acid, and it was fucking mindblowing. I had to sit down during Lichens solo set and at one point I looked back as he layered vocal after vocal until the speakers were near exploding and the entire club was sitting there entranced. Then Al and Emil come out with this incredibly dynamic between them, Lichens complimenting and filling everything perfectly, Al's bass tone the consistency of warm fluid washing over my entire body and consuming me....this is transcendental to see. nobody can leave this show without being stunned. even mate's that never heard of Om before were fucking shook by the perfromance. i cant even listen to the album versions now as they sound so weak compared to the power of them live.

      Is Lichen the black guy with the synth and vocals? He is sooo good i totally agree he adds so much. Om is good but I wish they would have made him a permanent member.

      Douglas McGowan if death could be viewed as the severing of attachments then perhaps meditation, under this notion, might prepare a certain someone for losing it all... yet remaining alive to feel that loss/ freedom. i don't know

    • @tylerboychuk3426
      @tylerboychuk3426 8 років тому +6

      +Sundar Whalen I definitely get a similar idea to this from the title, in the sense that the ego and wordly connections are shed during meditation, bringing you closer to your true self, similar to how it would be at death, in my opinion

      Om is Orthodox Christian and 1666 has nothing to do with anything.
      Now that I think about it, I suppose the great London Fire happened in 1666.
      Something like 16,000 homes burned along with St Paul's cathedral and dozens more churches burned, but on the positive side it stopped the Grate Plague.
      But no prophetic connection to Lucifer, Satan, or the rest of Legion.

    • @maskcollector6949
      @maskcollector6949 Рік тому

      @Napalm The whole point is droning the bass, too many strums. Less is more. The staccato of strumming ruins the trance-vibes. It's like a didgeridoo player taking breaths instead of being consistent. It doesn't help he's playing sloppy and frivolously, either, particularly on the chorus/solo. It's just unnecessary. "Keep it simple, stupid". I didn't even play bass yet when I commented originally, stand by my point. I used to listen to this song's original recording literally every day... The lack of a consistent drone is a creative decision that I don't agree with. If you're going to staccato, the timing has to be like Tabla level of perfect. In the pocket like a mother fucker. And he's not, he sounds drunk here. Sloppy bass on such a simple line just reminds me of the bassist from Khruangbin being sloppy live. Listen to Zakir Hussain if you want to hear proper timing.

    • @maskcollector6949
      @maskcollector6949 Рік тому

      @Napalm Art/music/beauty in the eye of the beholder, nothing wrong with disagreeing at all whatsoever, in general. No point in having an opinion if you only emulate others, so I would rather you listen for yourself and make your own assessments, anyways. That's the whole point of music. And yeah, jamming this style can be a lot of fun. It's a double edged sword to want to hear perfect timing, gets in the way of appreciation sometimes. At the same time, always striving to be better is a part of playing music. Thick as a Brick - Jethro Tull is a good example that it's better to enjoy than to know. The 1977 Live in London version is the best. ua-cam.com/video/hAt1b21S97k/v-deo.html
