    Sounds better than any aftermarket exhaust! Congrats, you're very talented!!

      Thank you. Sounds like the iPE / Innotech but for 10x less money :P it's too loud for daily use though to be honest.

    • @HenrySk8r
      @HenrySk8r 10 років тому

      Haha I love how even though it's too loud you disconnected the valves anyways. Thanks to your instructions I was able to disconnect mine; car sounds so much better. Startup is smooth, aggressive, and not choppy. Exhaust note sounds significantly deeper 1500-2200 rpm, almost like a V8. Throttle blips are also more aggressive.

    At 5:02, what if you leave the mufflers empty(without the scary hairy dog), and let the perforated pipes stay as they are, instead of solid pipes?
    I wonder if that would contribute to a more beefy sound. Or could it possibly cancel out some tones and make it noticeably quieter than just solid straight pipe?

    • @JoeLamOfficial
      @JoeLamOfficial  10 років тому

      I don't think the small perforated pipes would make too much difference. The OEM box itself isn't very beefy at all even if you removed the hairy dog. In reality I don't think that small section would make any significant difference to the sound. As the 2 larger pipes makes the most noise.

    • @bkorven
      @bkorven 10 років тому

      ***** Okay. You're saying that one could likely leave out changing the perforated pipe with a solid pipe, having basically the same result just taking out the stuffing?
      I've seen some other video with someone doing the same muffler modification to his E92 M3, and he aswell chose to switch out the perforated pipe to a solid pipe. I wonder if it's really necessary(if now there isn't any difference in sound or flow to be expected).
      That particular part, having to cut off and weld back new pipes inside that tight space just seems like the most demanding and time consuming part.

    • @JoeLamOfficial
      @JoeLamOfficial  10 років тому

      bkorven Sorry I think I got confused. I thought you meant leaving the hairy dog out AND do the mod. Didn't noticed you meant ONLY remove hairy hair WITHOUT doing the mod. With or without hairy dog doesn't make a huge difference.
      But you NEED to replace the pipes with solid ones or you can use heat insulating exhaust wrapping material if you can't do the welds or concerned about the tight space.
      The mod takes around 3-4 hours for a experienced welder, as you mentioned due to the tight space and some exhausts have doubled walled skins. So it takes time to weld the box together again.

    • @bkorven
      @bkorven 10 років тому

      ***** Ah all right, yeah I wasn't sure I was being clear enough, but now you got it right!
      I thought the fluffy dog was the big culprit as far as killing sound, and just wanted your thoughts on leaving the perforated pipe in place. Not something you would recommend then.
      Thanks for your answers!

    • @JoeLamOfficial
      @JoeLamOfficial  10 років тому

      bkorven No worries. Glad to help. The hairy dog doesn't do much with or without. Replacing/wrapping the pipes makes the biggest difference. Some say removing the hairy dog makes the sound 'tinny/thinner'. So probably best to stuff them back in.

    Hey long time but wanna ask can you put a gintani tune with this setup like the burble tune ?

    • @JoeLamOfficial
      @JoeLamOfficial  2 роки тому

      Sure. It used to be very popular. My friend did it with the Evolve tune (same burble type tune) and it was seriously loud (but fun!) Be careful about local laws against noise, track days or your neighbour though.

  • @gypsypoland
    @gypsypoland 11 років тому

    ok cool how does the exhaust sound on highway is it still loud or it starts to be quiet like the orginal , and thanks for the anwser.

  • @M3_86
    @M3_86 9 років тому

    So cut behind primary cat then remove resonator and second cat? Did you get a cel after this? Going for a loud as setup for track and looking at several options but also having a custom one built without the need for a tune or cel for California emissions testing.
    TIA

    • @JoeLamOfficial
      @JoeLamOfficial  9 років тому

      pkim1079 No sensors after the primary cat so there won't be any CEL lights coming on the dash. Just for sound to be honest, to unleash proper power you will need to get rid of the main front cats. Which I didn't do in this video cause I don't want to deal with the engine light / emission issue.

    • @M3_86
      @M3_86 9 років тому

      ***** Thanks - I've already had test pipes and a tune before but took them off because I don't want to pay $20k for an engine if I blow it up at the track all because I want 30hp which is negligible at the track.
      Just want MOAR sound! Thanks!

    • @JoeLamOfficial
      @JoeLamOfficial  9 років тому

      pkim1079 Muffler / xpipe mod / delete is your best way to get more sound. Anything you do with the exhaust won't wreck the engine. Only the remap "might" increase the chance. You can use sensor spacers or just delete the CEL lights if they do come on. Easy enough to delete the error code. You are still getting more sound and power even without remap. The ECU can adapt itself to a certain extend.

    just a quick question, Will the car pass the motor test after the modified exhaust?

    • @JoeLamOfficial
      @JoeLamOfficial  10 років тому

      Depends on which country you're in? Emission wise it should be okay since the main primary catalytic converters are still there. But again, depends how strict your tests are. The second issue you may have is that this system is seriously loud. Again maybe they will measure the dB level? I don't think that's an issue here in the UK though :)

    Hi mate, i want to do this mod, but is it different to the standard noise, i just want it a bit more louder then the stock as its not beefy enough. Also will this pass mot?

    • @JoeLamOfficial
      @JoeLamOfficial  10 років тому

      Hi, depends if you just do the backbox, just the x-pipe? If you're only just doing the OEM on the backbox then its a bit louder under heavy driving and pretty tame. I think you will love it. And no problem with MOT. Its either x-pipe or backbox mod - don't do both. Its too extreme. Not an issue with MOT, just the noise is too much I reckon. I recommend you just do the backbox mod and that's it. I'm sure you will love the sound.

    • @yasseralshahib1
      @yasseralshahib1 10 років тому

      I want it loud to be honest. But is it even at low revs to high?

    • @JoeLamOfficial
      @JoeLamOfficial  10 років тому

      Yasser Al-shahib Well do the x-pipe mod as well then :) be warned it is loud if you do it like mine. Mind you, its only loud after 3000 rpm and cold start. Those 2 scenarios are deafening. Warm idle and gentle driving is ok :)

  • @BorderPatrol121
    @BorderPatrol121 10 років тому

    if you are just driving normally would you be worried about being pulled over by a cop? you said it was rather tame under 3,000 rpm, so couldn't you just drive in low revs when you didn't want it to be loud?

    • @JoeLamOfficial
      @JoeLamOfficial  10 років тому

      Not at all. Just be gentle on the throttle and don't rev past 3000 rpm and its absolutely fine. Not that loud. But if you stepped on it or go to red line. Its stupid loud. I did find myself driving slower because how loud it is. But you can live with it if you drive sensibly. No issue

      @JoeLamOfficial  5 років тому

      Hi Ash, thanks for checking out my video. I didn’t have any issue with this setup. It’s only super loud if you floor it. Otherwise it’s actually quite tame. It is crazy loud if you do WOT it though! Super fun. :)

      Brabus AMG sounds amazing, no idea how they do it. Combo of engine and exhaust. They have a deep growl sound to them. Only AMG sounds like the way they do, probably because of the huge CC engine.

      Joe Lam but I know that if you go to a muffler shop he can make you hear different exhaust notes and sounds and you can pick up from those you heard

      Surely there are limitations though? Can't make a Ford Fiesta sound like a F12tdf? :)

      "An M3" is correct. The "M" is pronounced "em" which requires an "an". It sounds funny saying get " a em3".

    • @iceysnip3z258
      @iceysnip3z258 8 років тому

      H1delta you are so wrong it hurts. If the following word starts with a vowel it is an not a. M is it a vowel therefor it's a M3. Another example is menu. Exact same principle. Can I have a menu? is correct. can I have an menu? makes you look and sound illiterate. I could be wrong but you seem like the type that thinks they have a good grasp on the English language yet still can't deter between your and you're, there and their and the beloved here and hear. You have been educated. I want my medal.

      I could be wrong but you do not pronounce "menu" as "em-nu". As such, M3 actually is pronounced as a word starting with a vowel (em3) and should be preceded with an "an". FTR, a E92 is the best M3. Oh wait. That should be an E92... I'm just yanking your chain... Your medal is in the mail. FTR, it's been been known and verified that my English is more worser than nobody I don't know. I just know Mrs. Singer, my high school English teacher is turning over in her grave. RIP Mrs. Singer. I know I didn't deserve the As you gave me. I'll do more better next time.

    sounds bad in my opinion. you need to listen to an LFA, Aventador to hear a nice engine sound. This just sound like an 1990 chevy truck.
