- The great countertenor, Alfred Deller, sings:
1. "Alma del gran Pompeo" from Handel's Giulio Cesare (1953)
2. "O thou that tellest" from Handel's Messiah (1953)
both are recorded with the Philharmonia.

Alfred Deller le premier contre-tenor que j’ai entendu et qui m’a fait aimer cette tessiture si particulière Depuis je peux dire que c’est celle que qui me fait le plus vibrer et me procure les plus intenses émotions
I have difficulty believing that the baroque era shall ever be surprised for sheer pure, simple beauty of musicality.
Le Maître - The Beginner......... he now has so many sons for our greatest pleasure. Love and thanks forever.
Undoubtly the greatest counter-tenor all times who will never be surpassed.
Very pretentious statement. Perhaps for his time, but one listen to the likes of Philippe Jaroussky can flip that statement.
@@docdurdin Philippe it's not a countertenor
I agree because of the unique, clear and beautiful timbre of his voice most closely resembles that of a castrato which is the point. Many modern countertenors have too thick a vibrato and an unappealing fuzzy sound.

Nope, disagree completely.
A voice on a stellar plane exemplifying why the human voice is the ultimate instrument.Just shows what cartilage over a windpipe can do .
What incredible clarity. What a gift.
alfred deller m'enchante toujours.Sa voix a quelque chose de si chaud tellement angélique
The Messiah piece is beautifully performed with the same clear diction which characterised the great Kathleen Ferrier. The Counter tenor voice will always be a matter of taste, personally I thoroughly enjoy it. Thank you for these historic masterpieces.
Alfred Deller was amazing on so many different levels.
yes haendel and deller!who could ask for more!!
Bouleversant. Quelle superbe voix !
Merci.
So beatiful. Two geniuses hand in hand. Händel together with Deller. What more can one ask for?
Maurice Bevan, a great bass singer who worked with Deller! Why I like listening to music as grief stricken as this it plumbs the depth of my soul with excruciating pain, I can't think!
exquisite brightness of voice.
Que voz... cuanto sentimiento... Handel!!!!!
Beautiful. He has such a sweet voice💚💙💜💐
Beautiful, bell-like tone. The introduction is especially poignant, the legato splendid. Thanks for taking the time to post.
Alfred Deller, Divino!

On est aux anges .
now THIS is Deller in his prime
Un inteprêtation et une voix sans pareils
I think the genius of his performance is due to the fusion of two eras: The emotion and vocalisation of a Belcanto singer combined with a modern counter tenor's head voice technique. He is Jaroussky and Caruso in one person. Splendid.
They are falsettos. They are not countertenors.
@@tipomalito9518 Who are falsettists, not counter tenors? Jaroussky is one of the most famous modern counter tenors, Caruso was the most famous tenor of his time. I compared Dellers style with the two of them, because his style has something of both. So what do you want to tell me?
Sublime..
such a delicate and haunting song
splendide....RARE

Salut Brigitte
j aimerais écouter ces morceaux avec toi
IBliss, thank you …
someone knows is there exist a recording of the messiah sung by A. Deller????
No, he didn't record more than this and 'He was Despised'.
He sung in a 1954 recording of Sosarme conducted by Anthony Lewis.
Deller is superb-- but that thick and dense orchestra is not. Too bad he didn't (or couldn't) use authentic instruments. The voice does not go with the music.
El más grande, sublime e inteligente de los contratenores. Por desgracia poca gente lo conoce
