I enjoyed Dave’s intro. The point was-the big impact on your ears and soul. My first listen was at a Jimi Hendrix concert, waiting for him to come out. Heard the great Winwood’s voice over the PA singing Mr Fantasy. I was like Wow-that’s new. Had already dug him in Spencer Davis Group, but this was deal changing, with the phaser on his voice and cool vibe 🎵
Dave’s story reminds me of my own experience with the same song. Listening to Dear Mr. Fantasy in the dark with a friend after partaking ... and having an epiphany - that Mr. Fantasy was in fact God. It was perhaps the deepest connection to any music I had heard up til then or since. Long live Traffic!
If, like me, you were wondering, 'Where the heck is Dave Matthews going with this winding tale?' The denouement will be worth it, trust me. If a song brought me back from the brink and gave me hope and a lifeline out of Hell...there is no higher tribute, really. He sums it up beautifully, in the end. 🤍
It's obvious that these mean Dave comments are coming from people who have never heard him speak before. He is a rambler and chances are, he is high as well as nervous. Leave him be. Or better yet, watch some of Dave's stuff. It'll make you happy ☺
My guess is that there was an extended deliberation on how best to honor Stevie Winwood for his many contributions to rock music over the decades. Original Traffic members Capaldi, Mason and Wood (post-humously) were beneficiaries of the decision and justly so.
I think maybe some of you need to chill out. The introduction was fine. I’m sure it’s not that easy to do. It would probably be kind of weird hence his fluid state of inebriation. Yet still, as I skim through the commentary there are those who feel that Dave was disrespectful as it pertains to his speech. If only these UA-cam commentators, these masters of linguistic articulation, would have been allowed to speak in his stead, this fervent disregard for the sanctity of the induction process could have been avoided. Winston Churchill I’m sure is somewhere weeping into his hands at the gross negligence with which Dave Matthews has so insouciantly displayed, he’s weeping for the lack of respect afforded to our beloved Traffic , he’s weeping for the complete and total ruination of the artistry that is known as public speaking .
Wow! Too bad that Traffic didn't get an introduction that was worthy of their shear talent and individual musicianship that they harnessed. If spinning some yarn about being wrecked in South Africa and hearing Mr Fantasy is his only connection with the band Dave Mathews has then I find that highly embarrassing for Traffic.
The point of these speeches is to have famous, talented musicians give their accolades to a group by saying how the inductee influenced them. Just watch Tom Morello's induction of KISS (it was awesome). Leave Dave alone, he is a legend in his own right.
I have always loved Traffic. So unique, so different.

20 years later and now he’s getting inducted. My man 🔥
I love Dave's stories!

Traffic was an innovative, influential and pioneering band. They deserved a better introduction than they received here by DM.
if6was929 Yes, it would’ve been appropriate for someone like Clapton to do it. After all, he played with Steve in Blind Faith.
Traffic.. 🎉❤🎉 since way back.. low spark of high heeled boys.. hailed boys 🎼🎵🎼🎶🎼
Great speech. Way to pay homage to your heroes
What are you on?
Sorry, but I like the story. Makes me smile .....
Yeah, you ain't kidding, Mr. Bart: Jesus, God, Man: If he was any higher, he actually BE Mr. Fantasy.
I remember watching this when he inducted em

Not mean, just unimpressed. A waste of my time.
2004 . What took so long?

Hey Dave, next time prepare will ya. Those guys deserved better.
Do yourselves a favour and fast forward to 4:00

Jesus Christ traffic deserves better than this speech
this story is all about dave not traffic, they could of have numerous artists introduce him..I vote Ginger Baker or EC.
Eric Clapton would done it with heart.
I've been around musicians some of them are stupid. All about him not Traffic. In fact this is rude

thr r and r hall of fame is embarassing in itself..so many glossed over but whitney and joan are there..what bands still arent there..
I think Dave's the one seeing cartoon when he did this speech :D
worthless introduction for such a great band
Not a DM fan I’m here because of Traffic. Worthless induction speech
He might be high
Too much rambling Dave, it’s not about you, plus you sang the wrong words

wtf is matthews on about
Don’t do drugs!! All you’ll do is babble incoherently.
Not a fan of his music and singing voice, but cool guy.
This is the worst induction speech I have ever heard!
Absolutely worst induction speech in the R&R HOF. Want to see a great induction speech I offer you Tom Hanks induction of The Dave Clark Five!
Very bad introduktion to a great band
or dave mason..
