My local family-owned pet store only sells C&C cages and won't sell guinea pigs to anyone who doesn't buy a C&C. They have a few bad reviews because of it, but I'm glad they are standing their ground. It's why I continue to shop there, even though I can find some items cheaper online.

They both have amazing personalities and there in a 2x4, however I do want to upgrade to 2x5 which I’m going too do I just need to sell this old Cupboard that’s taking up space, then I’m gonna extend the cage, Guinea pigs if you want to commit to the price and having to clean every day, are like the best pets ever!
I wish Pets Mart and Petco would stop selling pets, especially rodents. They honestly don't provide enough space for them. They also have WAY to small ofcages for people to buy for the animals. They also have unnecessary and very high sugar toys and chews for the rodents. It's really sad, I go there one in a while and my heart breaks seeing all of these poor animals in such horrible care. 😔💔
Ikr every time I feels so bad yesterday I went to get some pellets and I saw abt 4 beside on that was alone he looked so sad :( and I’m pretty sure they never give them veggies or any treats like that…
They got me for $99 over one of those cages. I was so mad when I found out that was wrong. Uhg!

I sadly got my Guinea pigs from petsmart. The first 9 months of their life was in a pet store cage, barely getting free roaming. About 6 months in their care, I realized their cage was too small and started begging my parents and saving up. Finally, after we moved, I got a 2 x 4 and started free roaming them everyday. I now have a rabbit in the same room so they can’t be free roamed everyday, but they do get free roamed once a week for about an hour. My next piggies will 100% be from a shelter. Thanks to videos likes yours, they are now living an amazing life!
I worked at a Pet Smart for a few months at one point. On one of my first days there a manager was showing me around and telling me how things worked and what not. She took me to a room they called the "sick room" which was basically a room to quarantine any animals that had gotten sick or needed to be taken to the vet. And I kid you not the guinea pigs were literally in these tiny plastic drawers. They looked like the ones you can get from Walmart or whatever. I felt so bad. Also, when people would come in to RETURN their dead fish they had purchased the previous days before, they made us just throw the fish out in the trash can under the register. Also, seeing families come in with their young kids to buy a hamster and then proceed to buy one of those horrible tiny cages for the poor thing would make me so mad.
That's where I got my Guinea pigs, I was so sad when and saw so many pigs in a plastic container. After that moment I never went to petsmart again.

Wow, this is really eye opening because I had guinea pigs when I was a child, and they were NOT well cared for at all. I had a pet store cage similar to the picture; I only ever had one at a time; and their diet was pretty much just the pellets with the occasional fruit of vegetable. We also never took them to the vet because my dad didn't want to spend money on something that was so "cheap" to replace so yeah. I didn't know nearly half of the things you were saying in your video, and I feel really bad for those piggies. I think the longest any of them lived was maybe two years, and considering all of the things I didn't do, it's a shock they made it that long :( Now that I'm older I really hate how small mammals/rodents are so poorly treated as if they're objects that can be thrown away.

This video is EXACTLY why I want to just create a huge rescue specially for rodents, I would make sure before Guinea pigs get adopted they are bonded, sell c and c cages, Midwest ferret cages, and the only profit I would make is from supplies. I would make sure hamsters get the right cages, any children younger than 10 would not be able to take home a pet (I know it sounds cruel but rodents are so neglected).
and does anyone know good Guinea pig rescues in Texas?
I’m looking to get 2 or 3 Guinea pigs in a couple months and while I may be 12 I will make sure my Guinea pigs get the best lives possible, and the cage I’m getting is a 6x4 c and c which is about 39 square feet (it will be on the floor as I have no other pets). Should I start off small and make the cage gradually bigger or should I leave it the same size for when they get home?
i want to own a rescue too, but in no means can I handle all the business stuff that comes with it 😂

i had one of these cages when i was going to get a c&c cage because the petsmart people swore it was better for them and they were very demanding but this was when i was younger and my aunt took me to get one for a special occasion and she didnt know so she listened to the manager and suggested pee pads as a bedding..my guinea pigs died 2-3 months later and im not sure if it was because they were eating the pee pads or something else. but i regret it so much and right afterwards i saw your acc, austins, and autumns and i was so amazed at how good u take care of them..wish i would've found u when i was younger and knew all rhe information but i told myself if i were to get more id most definitely do all of my research.💔
Where I live in Canada , our pet stores like petsmart and petvalu actually take great care of their animals which makes me very happy! I know it’s not the same in a lot of places but ours here are awesome! And knowledgeable staff in most of them

I feel bad that we kept our guinea pigs in a small pet store cage for 8 years of their lives. My parents thought they were doing better by having them in a rabbit size cage instead of the smaller guinea pig cage, but it still wasn't enough. We had a pen they'd go in occasionally and sometimes I'd take them outside to get some fresh air.
Yes! 100% agree with you. I worked at pet smart years ago and when I seen shipments of animals come in, it broke my heart. I quit soon after. I could not be apart of that. There are those who love animals and then there are those that only see $ signs. No compassion, no means to make there lives good or do it correctly.
Honestly when I got my two pigs I knew nothing about them. I had a terrible cage for two and it actually turned into three with one turning out to be female. My pigs now have 2x7 cages for two females, and 3x6 for two males ❤️❤️

I actually work at PetSmart and thankfully my store gets animals from a small family breeder, and my coworkers and I will not give these pamphlets out because they are usually very inaccurate. Unfortunately it seems that my store is a one off from other stores in the area when it comes to the care and how they get their animals.
I think it depends on the size of the bowl for the pellets. My cavy savvy vet says that guinea pigs rarely overeat and recommended I keep my skinny pigs small bowl full of pellets because they use up so many calories maintaining their body temp that they are very rarely going to get fat from eating too many pellets. Also, of course, they have to be good quality pellets, but I keep a small hamster-size bowl full of pellets in my skinny pigs' cage all the time, and they are still pretty thin. Maybe it's because all of my rescued pigs are still underweight, but at least my pigs don't over eat their pellets. I also work 8 hours a day, so I can't be there to constantly top up their food during the day.

I got two gerbils from petsmart and I was told that they were both male. Few months later I find pups in their tank which I was not expecting being that they’re both “male”
I just bought a huge piggy CNC cage! I’ve saved up FOREVER and it was around 60 dollars for also the liners and mat for the bottom
i agree! chain pet stores are not good to get your pets from, or to buy things from. their small animals almost ALWAYS come from pet mills, or backyard breeders, who focus on quantity more than quality, meaning you’re more likely to get a sickly animal from there. if you have one near you, you should go to a GOOD privately owned pet store, or a specialty store for the pet you own!

I got my piggies from the pet store, each in separate very small cages that were more like fish tanks, I got two, and saved up my money to buy them a big cage, and now they’re 2 years old and the happiest little piggies!!!!
I don't go to corporate pet stores like pet smart but I do go to a family owned pet store near me. This pet store has rabbits, ferrets, fish, and guinea pigs in it. And all of the small animals are kept in big cages that they need, so I like supporting them.
For Me its really hard to find stuff for guinea pigs so I just buy what I can from Walmart or chewy. Our pets stores just mainly sell dog + cat suff and like 5% of guinea pig products. Our stores in were I live are not allowed to sell live pets, our pets sence store just as a few pets up for adoption from the once people have left in the pound. They also just sell some exotic animals.
I always shop at chewy, they send animals birthday cards and give birthday discounts and that's too cute.

When I got my first Guinea pig I bought a pet store cage (I was 8 at the time) I learned they need big cages now my 2 pigs are living in a 4 by 4 c n c cage!
I only got one piggie from there my other 4 are rescues I love how pet smart try’s to give advice when it’s so wrong I even educate them than they look at me like what? I only go there when I desperately need hay like asap other wise I get online
ever since my 13 year old brother got a guinea pig from PetSmart for Christmas I have been watching these kinds of videos and it makes me want to take the pig away from him because he hasn't done any research on them. He also lives in one of the PetSmart cages even though I am telling my brother that the pig needs more space, he also barely ever interacts with him and gets mad at me when i put hay in his cage because he ate all of it.

Pet stores can be so saddening. I stopped at Pet Smart few days ago, to see a bird clearly not ok in its cage and it’s mate could notice too… was so sad. Not one employee paid attention..
Life span, I say 7 to 8 years. It depends on how well you take care of them & keep them healthy.. Some piggies have lived longer than 8 years. Which isn't common but it hsppens. Have you ever heard of the 15 year old guinea pig. It's rare but amazing. Sun is important for guinea pigs to get their vitamin D🌞
There a benson near me and they make sure u have the correct cage food etc before they even let u purchase a Guinea pig
My particular guinea pig like being alone she has been alone since last year end of summer and she didnt get along with my daughters guinea pig and she popcorns on a regular so i know she is happy so it depends on the guinea… because my guinea pig is perfectly happy by herself

Yeah we were the ones who wrongly assumed we had 2 girl pigs. We were told by the breeder they were girls, never occurred to me to check. After a year we added another, a girl and now we have 6 pigs instead of 3 like we wanted. I was lucky I had enough space and material to build separate spaces for girls and boys. I love all our pigs, just wish we got them under different circumstances. We also bought a wrong size cage when we were getting our original pigs, I quickly realized that and made my husband build them a bigger cage 😅 Now I just use C&C, they are super easy to set up. People really need to do much more research when getting any animal. I also believe there is no such thing as a beginner pet, if there is guinea pigs are definitely not in that category, they need so much care, I would never get them for my kids, my kids help with them but they are my responsibility.

Hey Alyssa! I use to own two rabbits until they unfortunately both passed away early last year. As it is becoming hotter because of summer and I’m going to cover half the enclosure so they have shade but is it alright if we use the same hides the rabbits had for my piggies? Most of the hides are wood so I could wipe them somehow?! 🤍
I’d soak them in vinegar/water and then let them dry in the sun

Hi! I have a question. My guinea pig, Milo is kind of timid. He trusts me and is fine with me picking him up. However, he doesn't like getting out of his cage. I think it's because his past owners never really brought him out of his small cage so he isn't used to being out. We got him a big cage surrounding his small cage, but he doesn't want to get out even if we put food out. He looks at it and seems to want to get out but refuses to get out. What should I do?
Did you provide any hides outside his small cage? He may just be nervous to go out into an open area if not.
He may be timid because he lives alone, and I think you should get him a friend!
i use 3 hay piles for my 3 boys they are messy but ive tried a lot of other things and they wont eat hay out of anything other than a pile but whatever lol

Ive tryed to tell my friend to I there bond them or get them a friend (same with a bigger cage) and she didn't listen so i warned her if they die from depression dont cry to me for not explaining why.And they died bc she didn't take my advice and she shouted and cried at me bc they died. After that she broght two more she STILL DIDNT LISTEN TO ME and one died bc she didnt clean them out and she said she

i suggest doing research online on a good careguide for guineapigs. i think they will have listings on what you can give them and what not. i know that giving to much fruit is not good becauss there are lots of sugar (it can also make them gain weight if needed) but i am pretty sure you can give them lettuce every day. just make sure to not overfeed it and give it in smaller portions with some other vegtabels so they can choose. ofcoure i am not an expert or anything but i am sure you can find this online somewhere. you can even discuss this with a vet that knows a lot about guineapigs

I always try to shop at Chewy. The other night I was watching TV and a Chewy commercial came on. It showed two rabbit free roaming in front of their small little cage with a water bottle. I was so upset! I thought chewy was better than those stupid tiny cages.

I will say I was happy to see for Phoebe the hamster she had a large wheel to where her back was not bending but yet that wheel does not come with the full cheeks hamster cage so shame shame petsmart for misleading people on that! I wish that Petsmart, Petco, etc. would stop selling animals. They work with cat and dog rescue groups, I would like them to work with other animal rescue groups as well. Also the only "beginner pet" is a house plant imo.

I have had so many pets and I just got Guinea pigs….and they are so much work lol! I take good care of them and can’t imagine owning them as a beginner.

You do know guinea pigs like to burrow just like hamsters right? So fleece would not be recommended for burrowing critters such as hamsters and guinea pigs. Just a friendly tip I learned a long the way.
That’s why you give them a box of bedding and hay to burrow in, you can have both, like I do

I think cats are the best beginner pets to be honest.
You don't house them in a cage, so when they need something they will come to you to fix it. You cannot forget about them. lol
i mean, that's kinda true. they do whatever they want anyways😂 cats are their own bosses. you only have to see what food is best to give them and ofcourse you still need to understand the cat behaviors otherwise you can end up with an "agresive" cat. but they are easier then a guineapig for sure!

Not unless it’s completely blocked off from each other. They can breed through the bars and most of the time males fight when they smell females.

It's also tricky because the males can smell the females en the males can fight each other because of there hormones are playing with them.

if anyone here is a parent please do your research please and treat them correctly.Trust me my mom has 2 goldfish in one fish bowl and she bought me a quinea pig when i was 10(his name is koki)for christmas (he's still alive dw)and before i say anything else i didnt ask for a quinea pig i asked for a dog and a hamster so when i got him i had no idea what to do she refuses to get another one even though its like nesessary and i think his cage is decent i convinced her to get it my other family members dont give a shit about it so its just me and i cant even buy stuff for it
also i feel the need to explain that where i live i ligit can't find the cages you recommend to ship to my country and when i find one that will ship the shipping is like triple the price and as i;m a teenager i can't pay for it myself and my parents refuse to spend that much on my poor baby.I dont know what to do i'm giving him lots of love and i think he's pretty happy as he gets a lot of free roaming time and stuff
