Hello, I'm Tayer C the one who lost her herd. I did lose them to our dogs. they broke out of our kitchen and through 2 sets of shut doors. Since that day my enclosures have been put on tables and all the doors to that room have locks that get lock no matter what. And that all brown one that had her own picture was my cousins pig that i was given.
but since I sent all my pictures in my boys have been upgraded to 4 midwest cages, and they even gained a new friend so i now have 3 boars in 4 combined midwest. My girls are in a a 5x3 c&c still and yes I did fix my grids.

If I have a dog that grew up with my guinea pigs and are around them all the time, do you think that they could still hypothetically kill my guinea pigs like they did yours? I have been asking this question and am debating upgrading their cage and putting it on the floor.
Also, what type of dogs were they?
@@ellianamcfarland2217 I do believe that you should just keep your dog away from your piggies. Breed of dog doesn't matter its instinct. Please just be careful and use a lid for your cage if you do decide. But I wouldn't even try.
@@apiggiesjourney003 I am not saying that the certain breed of dog matters but I'm saying that if I have my piggies on the floor and the dog is a couple feet away, and they literally run to him to snuggle with him....do I still have to worry about getting a lid for my cage?
Also the person who lost their herd nearly made me start crying too, that’s genuinely my worst nightmare and I’m so sorry for your loss 💞
My cats are probably more afraid of my guinea pigs than my pigs are of them, the pigs like to see the cats, they come running up to them but only from their cage and when I’m in the same room. I would love to have a c&c cage for my pigs but because of having cats and on the very slight chance that my cats were to sneak into my room while I wasn’t around (the door is always shut, but you never know, they always seem to get places they shouldn’t) I deliberately have a more sturdy cage with a roof. While that advice is out there about other pets and safety - for anyone wanting a relatively more cat proof cage I have the ferplast plaza 160, and then I have the 40cm extension wooden hide box! It works out as about a 2x6.5 c&c cage in measurements, still plenty of space for two pigs, and keeps my mind at ease that even if my cats were to end up in the room with them unsupervised, there’s a stronger protection barrier to keep them from getting into the cage. Nothing is 100% safe mind you, and you still need other precautions like closed doors etc, but just a bit of a tip for anyone wanting pigs but worrying about their cats! 🥰
Yea I had a hamster and I would not let my dog around her no matter what my mom and family said I never let them near them unless I was there
you reacted to my cage awhile back and you most likely dont remember but her name is noodle and she lived alone in a midwest but since then i have upgraded to a 2x4 c&c and switched to fleece! i prefer the fleece so much more. its so easy to clean and doesnt smell! also a new guinea pig rescue opened up near me and i already sent an application in!

i think it is really important for people to remember that even if your piggy and your dog/cat get along when everyone is chill, at some point the guinea pig will get startled by something and act like prey because its their instinct and the dog/cat will react to that stimuli as a predator, because that is THEIR instinct. with animals you have to anticipate anything that can happen. its like when people ask if any of my pets bite my answer is always 'do they have teeth?' because even the best trained animal can be overstimulated and have a lapse

15:00 the playpen part of her cage is also her cage so it's open for her all the time. it's a store-bought cage so it's meant to be a playpen but it's part of her whole cage. thanks for reacting to my cage!!! 😁 also my brother made the email address lol

That was my habitat that was 32sq ft, it is aspen bedding and I switched to fleece so they would be even more comfy, I have puppy pads Bc I definitely don’t want the wood getting ruined! Thanks for the amazing review 😇
hey! its been a while since you commented, so many things may have changed but I thought I'd mention that tarps, waterproof bed sheets, or painters sheets work wonders, they're super easy to clean and so much less waste compared to puppy pads! and can be super affordable, second hand stores are my go to!

I've put together so many cages in so many different shapes and sizes. Right now I have 3 girls in a 4x5 c&c cage and I don't know how they'd have any fun in anything smaller. I'd love to be able to build one of those cool wood enclosures, though. My talents are already tested by zip ties 😂

I feel like people also don't realise how fragile they are! When I was 13 and my sister was 3, I turned to get Harriet (the pig) more food and my sister picked her up and dropped her on her back, and permanently paralysed her back legs. She still lived a long happy life, but I felt so guilty

Yes please everyone keep your other pets away from your guinea pigs! I unfortunately lost my herd of 8 after a cat attacked them 😭 they where outside in their 65 square ft enclosure and I hadn’t closed the door properly so the cat got in 😭

I had 2 piggies and my sisters dog got into my room and gave them both a hard attack I had them for 6 years and I wasn't even home when it happened it honestly broke my heart so much. Absolutely keep your other animals out of the room that guinea pigs are in.

@@quit-rt4vz what Meeks was saying is That this isn’t a good time/ place to use lmao as it may be misinterpreted and AlyssaNpets was saying (i think) was that you may become part of the problem if you leave them unattended together because ,animal instincts. My dog likes my pig but he is a retriever ,old but still, I saw him take a baby bird out of his nest and drop it at my feet as that is his nature, he doesn’t kill them (the bird was somewhat alive) but he is the most clumsy dog I have ever met, I let him sniff my pig sometimes but if I am right there. He is actually scared of him sometimes.

You know what was kind of funny but cute as Kevin was standing up on the cage liners in your setup my guinea Bella was standing up on a hay rack in my setup(In the process of switching out the hay rack for something else) ! I enjoy watching your pet videos!

As a bird owner I also get reeeally nervous when I see a bigger animal like a dog or cat next to a small one like birds, mice, guinea pigs or bunnies. I also own a dog but he never comes inside my room when my birds are out. My dog doesn't like to interact with them 'cause he once got scolded by my mother for barking at them. Now he ignores them, but it's still a bad idea to let him near them. It doesn't matter whether the dog or cat "likes" them or not. They are way bigger and stronger, the claws and jaws can hurt small animals even if not intended. On top of that their "playing" could even accidentally kill the small creature. I don't know about small mammals but the saliva of cats, dogs and humans is dangerous for birds because of certain bacteria so even a friendly lick could end up in an emergency. Just remember: Dogs and cats are predators and your small pets are the exact opposite - prey.
Tip on buying fleece. I just learned that Joannes has a remnant section and you can get around a yard of fabric for significantly cheaper (I got a licensed yard of marvel fabric that originally went for $16 a yard for $6.50)
The very same thing happened to my pigs, they were boys, both long haired, names were Jinx (white and black) and Levi (golden). It was terrible. I accidentally left the bedroom door open, and my dog can be kind of aggresive. She sadly broke their necks, and killed them. It was a tramatic experience. We haven't had guinea pigs since.

I used to like these kinds of videos but all the piggies cages are pretty much the same. I would love to see a video with a whole bunch of unique guinea pig cages. And then maybe like a whole bunch of quicker shots of people's guinea pig cages that are good and just to show the different setup and the decorations. You could flip those through really quick and then focus on some really awesome unique style guinea pig cages. That would be awesome. I have made my own guinea pig cage. Part of it is a hutch which has an aluminum bottom that I made and I put bath mats inside of that. I love bath mats so much instead of fleece. They're so easy to clean they're so absorbent I get them from Walmart for $6 a rug. They are amazing and the hay falls right off of them. Attached to the hutch is a huge run which is 8 ft long and 18 inch wide which has a chloroplast bottom and I used those garden stakes for the sides and zip tie them together and zip tied them to the chloroplast as well. I have four piggies. I love seeing the different setups and decorations people use for their guinea pigs. And all the different fleece colors and all of that. ❤️ This comment really isn't about your video per se just in general. I love your videos!

The one guinea pig girl, that has the black smaller black house that is on top, if you look underneath is a water bottle container with some bedding that looks like care fresh and on the the top of the container is plastic but it has all them holes in it just like the wire that is in the old rabbit cages that can brake there little tows,

I've had hamsters, mice, bunnies, rats, fish, dogs, cats and birds more or less my whole life. At different stages, the cats and dogs always ended up learning never to go near the cages. At one point when it was one of those rare times when i only had cats (4 total) and i did not have any smaller animals, my bestie went on a trip to Mexico and brought me her pet mouse to pet-sit while she was gone. Since the cats did not have that transition period where i could train them that being near the cage is a big no-no, and realizing there was not enough time while my friend was gone to train them, I thought if i kept my bedroom door closed the mouse would be fine in its cage. I went out for dinner the first night the mouse was in my room and came back to find the cats actually broke into my bedroom (i had a sliding door at the time and those cats somehow pulled it open. that door was heavy af) and even managed to open the mouse cage! I was shocked and panicking. I couldn't find the mouse anywhere and went looking for hours. Finally in the middle of the night i saw the cats crowding around the dining hutch. I moved it and found the mouse cowering against the wall. I won't give details, but it was fatally injured. The poor thing did not survive 2+ hours after being found. It broke my heart seeing her like that and having to break that news to my best friend... The nest day i got a lock for my door. I cannot stress enough - please ALWAYS make sure that your little animals are safely secured away from cats/dogs/other larger animals!
My chonk pig(he has a hefty dew flap for a boy)loves sitting in his hay and eating like a little king. He also likes laying claim to the hay because his brother steals all the food( he will always go after what his big bro has even if I give him his own)
Absolutely! I’m getting two Guinea pigs soon and I won’t even let my leopard gecko near them. Even leopard geckos (if hungry enough) can eat rodents and small animals, not just insects.
I’m glad that person submitted that story to allow us to avoid that type of situation.

The person Who had one guinea pig has the cage that I got for my guinea pig from Petco and it’s not big enough it’s $120 and I just dislike it a lot so I really hope that she got a different cage or a better one. No hate tho. ( I have a diff cage now) but I got another pig after one of my gps died and I have to quarantine her because she had ringworm and I had to put my pig in that cage with no extension. I felt so bad. Now they live happily in a 2x5, with a 1x2 loft

My rabbits have lived free roaming with my cats and dogs for years none of them have ever shown bad behaviour and frankly don’t care for them… I guess Guinea pigs and cats and dogs with high prey is different almost everyone o know with bunnies have their cats and dogs free roaming with their buns mine lay near eachother, and hangout but don’t do anything out of the ordinary or concerning it’s been 3-4 years too. When I had pigs I never let my cats or dogs near them or my hammy.. very different than my buns

i am confused my mum has had 6 guinea pigs in the past and we have even tried fleece but i did not work out it smelt so bad and the were living in there own pee and we had to clean the cage like every other day . But now we are doing shavings and our guinea pigs seem way happier.
I am trying to convince my dad, (Super close!!!) If all goes well we will make a 10.7 sq feet DIY cage 2 girls. I do have a puppy named Ruth! She has a lot of hunting breeds😐 but she does always chill in the living room but I will make sure to close our gate that we to keep her out, and I do have a little brother who is always kept out of my room😜 but overall, Im very responsible have been doing my research for a long time now with my dad!

I don’t let my dog even close to my room. And he’s 16 years old so he can’t really climb upstairs but just in case he does I keep my door shut anyways. But like I said I don’t let him anywhere near my room even when he’s upstairs because he does sleep on my parents bed
