Surprisingly deep. A father who was caught in the glories of his past and couldn't let it go to be the man he needed to be for the people he loved and so he slays the dragon one last time only to find that it's hollow and that what really fills the emptiness in life are the people we love.
Doesn't hold much weight when you missed the part that there's no mother. Most likely, she was killed by monsters. Which explains why the king hunted them all down: revenge. After killing the last monster, his revenge became a hollow one, he couldn't bring back his wife and ended up like a hollow shell.
Bro he didn't drop it into a ravine 😂 he just let it on the ground, sure if needed he would sacrifice and arm for his daughter but still this case has like 0 impact
Basically he completed all the quest, but once done lost the focus he needed for his life. So his daughter tried to help him find himself and in doing so made him aware that She is his next quest. Raising her properly.
I think it's worth noting that the girl's mother wasn't shown. Why not? Most likely, she was killed by monsters. Which explains why the king hunted them all down: revenge. Which means he didn't just lose his purpose in life -- he was grieving.
This is a really good question. To be honest that was one of our early thoughts for a back story, unfortunately we couldn't get deep in to it due to time constraints. But I like your train of thought! Thanks!
Or maybe she just didn't serve a purpose in the story. Just like the peasants of whatever kingdom it was or the story behind where the monsters came from in the first place. I find that the short film format suffers from including too many details, background and side-plots. The more single-minded the short is the biggger impression it leaves. The queen would play pretty much same role in the story as daughter, which would mean it'd just make it less "sharp", unless she introduced some other side of this conflict, but that'd take some focus away from the main plot and harm the overal impression again. It can work to the benefit of the story in a full movie or an episodic series, but shorts need to be on point if they want to leave a strong impression.
I love that the soldiers immediately stepped up to help her. Not just with the monster, but also with keeping her from falling. Which makes sense, in every image before then she's carried by one. She was practically raised by them until this point. And together they make a new family
I love how beautiful it turned out and the fact that she wanted her father to be the hero ago and through that resolve being bored and hopeless she put a smile of heroics in him again and the following silence of understanding that pause before he threw her up in the sky was a very beautiful resolve I love that

@Ttegegg You please zip it GOBELINES ARE THE MOST AMAZING ANIMATION STUDIO I'VE SEEN ON ALL OF UA-cam AND EACH AND ALL OF THEIR WORKS ARE MASTERPIECES
This was fantastic, and I absolutely LOVE the design of those little Castle-Crasher-esque knights! The animation was very great, the music was great, this was a joy to watch! Thank you to the whole team!
Brings back fond memories of "The Tale of Desperaux." The little girl with forearms big enough to crush skulls is amazing, I love her! It's a little jarring that she narrates in the beginning but does not actually speak again. The knights are adorable and the animation is smooth, well done!
What gets me most, even more then the music, the character designs, or the story, is the nuance of the character's facial expressions - especially the king's. You see his numbness upon losing a monster a fight; his elation at the sight of a new beast so many years later; his bewilderment upon peeling away the facade of the machine; his awakened heartache and care at his daughter's fall; and as his stern features soften into a bearded smile, his joy of realizing his destiny to raise his daughter.
Toujours aussi impressionnant de voir le nombre de personnes derrière une "petite vidéo" comme celle-ci. Cela rappelle bien que l'animation n'a rien de simple ou d'évident, mais demande un énorme travail collectif. Chapeau bas.
We always say these would make a great movie, but this one DEFINITELY would. You can just imagine backstories, plot twists; character development. Where’s the queen? Who are the little knights? What if he DIDNT get the last monster? Ooh, what fun!!
This was amazing, I loved how cute you made all the knights seem, and I felt so bad for the father. The animation was great too, this short is better than some movies ive seen. Thank you so much!
!!! i love this!!! i really like how you made the almost the whole film after fighting the monsters very dull, just a hue away from monotone. even though all the beasts were vanquished, and peace is guaranteed for generations to come, the King wasn't happy. it's like he was grieving because he don't have a purpose to chase after in life anymore. the way his statue's face and one of the solder's helmet was shat on by the pigeon made peacetime look mundane, and very dampening.
C'est un bon message a beaucoup d'entre nous !!! Le vieux président, directeur, père, qui est juste là. Et les jeunes femmes et hommes qui sont là prêt à développer une nouvelle vie au pays ! Avec respect et amour de tous :)
Well, this animation brought tear to my eye. Because, maybe my father wasn't a monster slayer. But he's musician. An organist to be precise. And one day he left this job. And pretty much lost it somewhere. All this joy and passion for music. He became very tired all the time, have little motivation to do something. And one day I found his old guitar, and start to playing it. You cannot imagine his face when I was playing this old and completely non adjusted instrument. I had no fucking idea how this monster works but I now I did it all wrong. He have his motivation back and now I cannot count how many times he was bored/exhausted or even sleeping - sound of instrument in home gives him like metric fuck ton on energy 😂
The warrior's grandiosity is his true monster. How he identifys himself as the hero of a tale and not as himself, a father and as a individual. The monster he must defeat is within himself.
Потерять смысл жизни, и жить ради других, и с малейшей надеждой. Тут заметил чувство благодарности, когда он мог и всё потерять, но у него есть хоть что то, теперь и смысл жизни
