Saw John Maus yesterday and im speechless. Easily one of the best live performances ive ever attended. This CD sounds amazing.
if John and Ariel would do a full album collaboration at this point it would be so otherworldly and epic

I love the new tracks! I'm originally a metalhead, but i pried myself to see the beauty of most genres of music. After i randomly heard copkiller, John maus has been my favorite artist by far! Can't wait to finally get to see him perform in Oslo tomorrow! Thank you for coming to Norway and making this guy really really happy!

He’s putting down science using the old ironic term “gay” to symbolize something negative. He’s always been a Christian and “Rights For Gays” is also a satirical song ironically putting down gays.
@@Misterioso thats not at all what that song means. its about exploiting made up issues for political clout and dodging the important issues like abolishing capitalism and such. as for being chrisitian honestly no clue, i remember listening to some ariel pink interview where he mentioned going to a friends marrige (not named but it was maus) that was done at a catholic chuch, but he went out of his way to mention that neither of them are religious and it was mostly for tradition. maus is just kind of contridactory as hell in general

I would love to know what the lyrics are in the last two tracks… 112 sounds like Gloria Patri on repeat. 112 is the Emergency number in Europe, maybe the last two tracks are about loving and missing his brother Joe. I like how He Lied (another track about…don’t worship the devil) makes me think of Eli by Arthur Russell, another artist whose compositions I hear at the medieval hymns at Mass.
After listening to Setting Fires I listened to Strange Fires by Ariel Pink, cute pairing.
At first listen to these albums I was like oh we are in his CHANT period (essential 90s Gregorian chant pop album), but like always the songs bury into your heart.

there's some Russian in there for sure, but then again I hallucinated Italian? very disorienting yet driving use of lyrics
It's an orthodox chant "Pobedna Pesma", which means Victory Song, it's sung in Serbian, listen to the original, it's absolutely stunning
