Harry Goodman is like a grown up version of Ash Ketchum. They're both stubborn. They both care for Pokemon. They never back down from anything, even when the odds are against them. And they both have a tendency to be reckless.
Honestly, Rachel isn't even that bad. Emilia is mostly an acquaintance that Tim somehow met up coincidentally for a few cases, while Rachel is the one who actively went out of her way to help Tim as a friend. I was skeptical about Rachel at first too since the game only has Emilia as a cameo, but I warmed up to her after she went out of her way to check up on Tim after Pikachu got arrested. Kinda helped that Rachel's voice actress is actually married to Tim's voice actor lmao
That entire scene at 2:51:21 and the look on Pikachu's face at the very end, it kinda seems like there's more to come, maybe DLC or an update, or possibly a third game in the next 4 to 5 years.
That entire scene at 2:51:21 and the look on Pikachu's face at the very end, it kinda seems like there's more to come, maybe DLC or an update, or possibly a third game in the next 4 years... This isn't the last of we see of him...
02:49:50 DAMN What a fakeout bad ending that was, it actually ended up being the best ending...I was thinking of the bad ending where Tim's father and his pikachu never made it out alive...That would have been heart-wrenching but would have been accurate since, you know, not many surviving that explosion can easily survive like that, let alone escape from a blown up laboratory like that...God this game gives me resident evil/pokemon mystery dungeon vibes man, but in a detective noir series that ends like a Die Hard film does....Gosh dang the references in this game were nuts....Phew....Well, now that Harry is back to normal as he is, I'm not sure how they'll continue the franchise. Either have them be the third game or start off with a new family or something, I have no idea....But who knows what's to come next for this series.
This is an excellent retelling of The actual movie in 2019. Wait I'll check when the movie came out. I'm glad to report it was 2019. I just guessed the release year
Gonna be honest here, I do have problems with the graphics, animation and surprisingly the camera movement in this sequel (me being an animation student, sometimes the cutscenes do drive me crazy lmao), and this came from a die hard fan of Detective Pikachu game. But in exchange, the story and character dynamic from the first game are still here, and I love them all the same. You can tell the writers cared about the story and every single individual character in here, human and pokemon here. It's not just "oh what if humans and pokemon are side by side in the city", as you can see that every wild pokemon has its own life and is willing to live alongside humans. That's one of many problems with the movie that bugged me out, as the character dynamic felt... bare bones compared to both games here. I don't particularly enjoy the movie as most people here do. Not gonna lie, I love how Tim sassed the movie here lmao While the first game's... mastermind is kinda cartoonish like this Merloch guy (which is like a crazy combination of Colress and Charon?), we see more tragic villain like Howard and a realistic villain like Butler. Corruption in power, forcibly kidnapping pokemon for further experimentation, how deep the effect of the death of a loved ones to the point of close-mindedness... it just seems so fitting in this game even with magical creatures in it. Usually the main series mostly say it out but never act it out even with Team Rocket, so it can be surprising that a game aimed for children has a lot of darker elements here. Don't need realistic textures and lighting to make this game dark lmao. Despite its flaws, I love this game a lot. Btw, fun fact: Tim's English VA is Khoi Dao, while Rachel's English VA is Laura Stahl, and both are actually married. So yes, it is a lot more amusing when you see Pikachu and Sophia teasing Tim so much and knowing the status of Tim and Rachel's VA lmao
I'm probably one of the only ones, but I *love this game* xD I just finished it this morning and the story and characters were so great. Each Pokemon had a fitting personality and it was fun to interact with them. The story was exciting and emotional ^^ I had some theorys while playing it and it was fun how they were revealed to be true. - Sure the gameplay is not revolutionairy and simple. But it was still fun (especially the part where you could controll different Pokemon). - The animation of the humans was sometimes stiff, but the Pokemon felt really alive ^^ - Lighting could have been better, especially at first the shadows and contrast in this game feel too less, I got used to it after playing for a while, but I think if the lighting would have been better, more people would give this game a chance. Overall a good sequel to the first game. I've been waiting so long for this game, I'm really glad it wasn't cancelled xD If you can look over some lighting issues and like a wholesome game, with great characters, a cool story and experience the Pokemon world in a different way this game is worth checking out. Aww, I'm really glad you liked it! ^^ It's really nice to find more people who liked the game ;w; I just finished watching TyranitarTube's playthrough of it (he has one of the first game, too, and I love how he usually really gets into stories and stuff, I can definitely recommend both playthroughs! @jellycore1316 hi, I'm a person who liked this game too! I finished it yesterday so I would like to share a comment here to talk about some things. It's a bit long, hope you don't mind The game does not explain how Harry became human again. We can see mewtwo at the end flying away so I think the took pikachu, separated the 2 souls, put pikachu, Harry and Charles into that cabin and threw them out of the lab before it exploded. But, as we know, in Returns, we have the same Detective Pikachu 1 final cutscene explained where detective pikachu talks with Mewtwo, he took his decision and then we see a light. In the first chapter we don't know what happened but Returns explains it. Harry (in pikachu's body) decided to remain like it because he didn't want to risk to die because, since Harry and Pikachu's souls both coexist in the pikachu body, there would have been a 50% possibility of success. So, at the end of DP 1 mewtwo erases part of Harry remembers another time. But during Returns, as we know, Harry starts in a certain point to mix His and Pikachu's remembers, like: "oh yes, I was talking with that man there while I was going to ask help in another street". At the end it comes out that Harry's soul is coming out more and more, deleting Pikachu's one: it's like Harry is becoming a Pikachu. Then the final part, we took two capsules with Pikachu and Harry's Energies, that were created by Merloch. This was done to throw them to him before the final attack to separate him from the Deoxys body (how? We don't know). Then, as I was saying before, POSSIBLY Mewtwo throw the 3 out of the exploding Lab, but we don't know how Mewtwo could separate the duo, take merloch, put all them in the capsule and throw them out. One last thing: the final end credits cutscene doesn't explain anything, it only shows the Goodman family exiting the Hi-Hat Café, with Sophia saying she would like to become a detective too (possible sequel?). Then we see Pikachu saying "Pika Pika" like he is confused....Game ends. So I'm confused, they didn't explain ENTIRELY the why of something it was important, but maybe they wanted to let the player speculate? Well...😅
If the Pokemon company decide to make a sequel to the first Pokemon detective Pikachu it has to be on a brand new storyline. Either way, this game was Kick-Ass❤🎉
It is astounding seeing the quality between the original game and the 3DS version. (will update this comment in the future, after I see more gameplay and this video)

Cute game. Played the first, but don’t know if I will play this one. Not really a fan of how they just used the same plot from the movie, and how they prolonged the obvious twist from the first game that Pikachu and Harry occupied the same body. Am looking forward to seeing if they decide to do a second movie.
I mean the game is all right, but I personally would’ve had Merloch use the Control Cubes to create an army of Pokémon to take over the world with. That’s just my opinion, however.
Thank you for the cutscenes, amazing job as always👏🏼now onto this game: the graphics, storyline, dialogue…I can go on but this was all pretty terrible. If Pokémon has the time to claim this as one of their games, they have time for a new Pokémon coliseum game. After this, we’re pretty much owed at this point. Do better Pokémon.
Looking at the original detective Pikachu cutscenes and looking at Returns’ really tells me how much lower the quality was for this one. OG had a hand animated cutscenes for every character introduction. Meanwhile, Returns just uses stock talking and emoting animations. Gosh, this was so disappointing. What on earth happened during development?
Thank you! I should have just watched this haha. The game was a real grind that I'm glad I didn't get. But appreciate your videos for showing me this! The amount of PC in this game tho...
I will say, I decided to skip towards the end and it is an interesting concept imo, do wish it was done in a better game. Also reminds me of the ReBURST manga
@@New-Days-Ahead It's kind of funny that there are people who haven't understood that I'm just making fun of the game's graphics. In 2014 he launched mairo kart 8 and it was beautiful, and now almost 10 years later I come across this lmfao. Im not even an anti fan but maybe Pokémon Battle Revolution from wii was better than this
@@New-Days-Ahead It's weird considering the graphics are more in line with the Wii U/3DS than the gamecube in my opinion, let alone the nintendo wii. Heck, the gamecube graphics were limited, but the creativity and imaginative look and feel of the games made up for the lack of hardware capabilities, considering this game alone would have to be on two discs to even play the full story on a gamecube compared to one cartridge.
Playing this was very... tolerable. The actual gameplay is just on the edge of annoying. But around the third chapter the game hits its stride plot-wise and it refuses to let up. It gives me some Colosseum vibes -- not as dark as some of the anime spin-offs, but certainly darker than we usually get, and it benefits from that willingness to show harm tremendously. The final ten or so minutes of the game are ripshit bonkers and while I knew what the plot was building up to, I didn't expect the final villain to go that route -- though it makes sense in hindsight. It was honestly very cool, and the final moments of the game naturally make me wonder if they plan to do more with this world one day... perhaps it's not time for the Great Detective to hang up his hat just yet! (I'm still of the opinion that this game would've worked better as a six-episode OVA, but then, that's kind of the point of the movies, isn't it?)
i hate that in the end they abandoned pikachu after all he did for the woodmans. what is it teaching people its ok to dump things when they appear to be of no use
I feel like the story is kind of meh. The pacing felt way too fast, and didn't give enough time for me to care about these characters. Thus, I didn't feel anything in the story. I also feel like it's a bit too anime cheesy at times, and the villain is kind of lame. They also did not explain exactly why Harry divorced his wife, or how he and Pikachu survived at the end.
Ive said this to myself before for the first game and ill say it again for this one... Detective Pikachus voice is just OFF, im sorry it just doesnt sound like Pikachu to me Dont get the original va to speak words no, but something less, this..
Sadly this is the voice actor for the games compared to the movie. The movies I felt is a separate adaptation of the video games itself, even the plots are more action oriented instead of detective noir in my opinion.

10:09 IS THAT U KHOI DAO?!
it is! khoi dao is tim in both the first and second game!
He was 19 years old in the first game, and 24 in the second game, Khoi is currently 25.
Dokutaro at work again...
did M2 call Pikapika "human"?? OOOH so this explains why it talks (and Mystery Dungeon already did that too)...
Impidimp "Just a silly guy" LMAOOOO 😂
That entire scene at 2:51:21 and the look on Pikachu's face at the very end, it kinda seems like there's more to come, maybe DLC or an update, or possibly a third game in the next 4 years...
This isn't the last of we see of him...
Why did you Just copy my comment pretty much word for word? Lmao
@@New-Days-Ahead Just thought it won't be the last we see of Detecive Pikachu.
2:49:53 This was so emotional seeing Tim and Harry finally hug 🫂
Yes but...the game does not explain how Harry became human again.
Well...😅
Cute game. Played the first, but don’t know if I will play this one. Not really a fan of how they just used the same plot from the movie, and how they prolonged the obvious twist from the first game that Pikachu and Harry occupied the same body. Am looking forward to seeing if they decide to do a second movie.
Ever considered this was acting the plan alll along, plus the mughr be a third game.
I mean the game is all right, but I personally would’ve had Merloch use the Control Cubes to create an army of Pokémon to take over the world with. That’s just my opinion, however.
@@knightofarkronia9968 Maybe something like that'll happen In either an update DLC or a third game.

Detective Pikachu is the 2019 Movie.
9:18, 1:53:13 reference galore! The live action movie!
We also have a movie reference about Psyduck in Bamboo Borough during gameplay!
Does that mean Ryan Reynolds and Justice Smith exist in Pokemon world?
I got a question for anyone that has played the game so far Is the big Detective Pikachu Amiibo compatible with this game at all? Or not yet?
Looking at the original detective Pikachu cutscenes and looking at Returns’ really tells me how much lower the quality was for this one.
OG had a hand animated cutscenes for every character introduction. Meanwhile, Returns just uses stock talking and emoting animations. Gosh, this was so disappointing. What on earth happened during development?

😢poor pikachu~
Do you battle in the game? Can you catch Pokémon?
No, you only have to go talking to npc all the time and reading dialogues. There are a few fake quick time events and puzzles sometimes, though.
Thank you! I should have just watched this haha. The game was a real grind that I'm glad I didn't get. But appreciate your videos for showing me this! The amount of PC in this game tho...
Literally every one of your comments are negative.
Maybe go back to bed and wake up with a new attitude. Lol
I will say, I decided to skip towards the end and it is an interesting concept imo, do wish it was done in a better game. Also reminds me of the ReBURST manga
Did this game just hit on another new Pokémon mystery dungeon game

tell me why the first game had better animations and just had better looking cutscenes overall

Is this from gamecube?
Kinda funny how 99% of anti-fans weren't even born when the PS3 was a thunf, yet alone old enough to know what a GameCube was. Lol
@@New-Days-Ahead It's kind of funny that there are people who haven't understood that I'm just making fun of the game's graphics. In 2014 he launched mairo kart 8 and it was beautiful, and now almost 10 years later I come across this lmfao. Im not even an anti fan but maybe Pokémon Battle Revolution from wii was better than this
@@lukashagen6878 it's even funnier when people don't realize people already know but can't see their being made fun of. 🤣
@SuperFlashDriver I just wish most anti-fans could make up their minds or at least look up what they're talking about lol.
Whose idea was it to have a bunch of freeze frames that the camera flies through like a 3 dimensional slideshow

Wasn't it pretty clearly to protect his wife and kids from the case?

It’s not the same without Ryan Reynolds voicing Pikachu
BS this is the original, deal with it😵💫
Ive said this to myself before for the first game and ill say it again for this one...
Detective Pikachus voice is just OFF, im sorry it just doesnt sound like Pikachu to me
Dont get the original va to speak words no, but something less, this..
Sadly this is the voice actor for the games compared to the movie. The movies I felt is a separate adaptation of the video games itself, even the plots are more action oriented instead of detective noir in my opinion.
