Hi. I know this video is 2years old but I really loved the way you showed how to repot the plant. And bonus points for allowing us to see your beautiful children! His bless you and your family✝️❤️
those wonky little noodley looking things called aerial roots! They help the monstera to attach to things like trees or moss poles when they're climbing
I have watched multiple videos on how to repot and care for my monsters I rescued from Home Depot and yours is the only one that really helped! I did find out that I think that thing growing out of yours is an aerial root starting! Thank you again!!!
You did a beautiful job. She looks so happy now. They like their roots more crowded, only 1-2 inches space betweenthe root ball and pot. If you had used the next size up, the soil would have stayed too wet and caused root rot.
Thank you for this!! I was gifted a Swiss cheese plant a few years ago and they started growing out of the pot and hanging over. After watching your video I was able to get what I needed and I’m so impressed at how tall they are! Thank you! 🙏🏿
Wow! I haven't gotten past the first 15 seconds of the video and I feel confident I clicked on the right video. My Monstera looks just like yours and it's in the same basket (Target) as yours on a stand too. 😆😊 I'm at the end of the video ow. Great job! I've been scared to repot mine but you have inspired me to do it today. 😊 Great video!
Thank you for this ! I just rescued a monsters plant that had been neglected for a bit . It was massive and looked lush when I got it but I think it got shock from a 2 hr car ride and new environment. It was bone dry when I got it so I gave it a generous watering and have the leaves turned yellow ! This video has given me inspiration to repot it and that’s there is hope . I’m not sure if someone else responded - the little things growing off are aerial roots . 💚 🌱 happy planting 🪴
@lean: yes i brought mine hm from Hm Depot and the tips of leaves look burned & leaves r drooping😢 idk what to do. I'm poking soil to irnsire moisture exists
This is such a great video, thank you! Perhaps my monstera has hope, it’s also looking pretty sad and I’m getting ready to repot it, hope it goes as well as yours did! The transformation is amazing!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 One thing I’ve learned & wanted to share that if you repot yours again into a bigger size, it will keep getting bigger vs if you leave it where it is, it will get fuller but the climbing and overall size will level off. So really it just depends on how big you want it and how much space you have.
Loveee this video!! Thanks for the inspiration! I just rescued a tormented monstera this morning from walmart! got it for half off for only 12bux and just repotted it and hoping for the best. this gives me hope!
Thank you for this! About to repot mine right now! Praying my results are as good as yours. Wish I had an extra set of hands to help! Your son is so cute! And the baby!!! ❤❤❤❤
Awww you are so cute! Those things coming out from your monstera is actually air roots, when they grow long enough you can stick them down in the soil at that will help your plant to get more nutrition higer up twords the plant, and yeah it will grow big and strong and you'll even might see beautiful changes in your leafs too😍❤️ keep up the good work❤️👌🏼
I guess others have already answered your question, but those things that you point out toward the end of the video are air roots. The monstera actually uses them, to cling on to other plants, as it actually looks like a vine in the wild. Also, the split leaves are from stalks that are more mature. Immature leaves do not have splits.
You've created a MONSTERa 🤭 I love that you got right to it and I was so enamored with your excitement! I love plants...you did a great job! 🌿🍃☺️👍 PS, it's okay if they get a little root bound! Don't repot if you can until spring or early summer.
Wow, love this video!! I have been looking for info on repotting my monstera and Im so glad that I stumbled on yours. Great info, no dilly dallying, just straight to it. 👍Thanks so much
OMG this was so thoroughly and helpful I enjoyed the beginning to the progression of the plant. This gave me the confidence to repot mine. Girl thanks love it 🪴 The life of a plant Amazingly Breathtaking
Put a moss pole in the soil. It’s trying to grab on to something. In the wild, they climb on other trees and branches. Let it climb and the leaves with become so huge.
So inspired to repot my Monstera! Your video is amazing! My plant right now looks exactly like yours at the start, droopy and dying. You gave me hope!!! Thank you! 😊
brilliant. just followed your video trying to revive mine that looked almost like yours - albiet a bit more droopy and curled leaves. report back in 3-4 months :)
@Marsha Eileen Hey there! You could actually put them back into the soil. It takes in nutrients and water. You could leave them where they are, or you could put in a moss pole in your pot and train them to grow toward the pole, which in turn trains the plant to grow upwards be cause it's originally a climbing plant in it's habitat that likes to climb trees!
Hi! Some one already suggested the moss pole. The plant also needs bright sunlight that will give the little hole on the leaves . Once in a while bring it to the shower or when it rains bring it out side. There are videos to show you where to cut the leaves. Use a humidifier your plant will be happy in its own habitat. I love Montera. Don’t cut them that will help the plant to grow tall and climb
love the video it’s amazing, those little root looking things you can cut under it about 1 inch under and put the whole cut off part in water or soil and have more monstrea plants just little baby ones
🇬🇧thank you for this video 🙏🏾 I truly know how you felt cause this is my current worry😢 but this video tells me exactly what to do now🙂 and I am hopeful ❤😊
I recently moved to a new uni accommodation and had to leave my plants for the last month…. My monstera looks how yours began in the video 🤦♂️. I was sooo worried as I’d grown him from a small baby, so I have hope now!!!
Love your videos on transplanting your plants. I have to transplant my snake plant . Just an idea when I have to mix soil I get big bowl to mix it in before then scoop out of that.
Great video and you did an awesome job with your Monstera. I have to ask. Where did you get that gorgeous wicker basket your Monstera was in? I've been looking for one I like and yours is perfect.
Thank you for this video. Giving me hope 🤣. Did you originally put in a new pot because it had outgrown the previous one or were you just wantjng to give it a bigger size to grow in?
Thanks so much for sharing! Mine is like yours exactly and I am going to repot it like you do! Can you share how often did you water it after repotting it?
The growths off the side of the stalks are Arial roots that are growing. It's a sign it growing very well and they are used to anchor the plant because it going to grow upwards and very big!!! I made a mistake and didn't know what they were on my plant and cut them off 😬
@@maplejubilee if you put them in a lil jar of water and change the water weekly it will promote new growth on your monstera, try it out and don't have the whole aerial root submerged in water
Im trying to safe my plant to very helpful . I didnt know what that was called. Going to try that. Can i cut off the brown leave? Can it be outaide in 100 degree weather doing recover? I bought a 20 oz pot. I also saw white bags in the soil
Luv your video! I know I’m late to the party. Lol But I just bought/rescued the saddest monstera on the planet from Lowe’s for 8 bux. I am definitely going to use your tips. And those are aerial roots 😂😂. They do look weird. Lol
I remember someone at the garden store telling me that the splits are already pre-determined before the leaf blooms. So naturally you will have some with and without splits. I love it because each new leaf is a surprise.
The older the plant gets the top leaves, if given the right amount of South or West facing light, will open with fenestration slots already in them. This allows lower leaves to still get sun, if they were growing natively in their jungle habitat. New leaves growing without slips after cutting is a sign the plant is recalibrating. Fenestration will start again with good light and the leaves aging some more. Good luck with that beauty. You did well. Try a coir pole, or a wood stick or trellis. Moss poles can mildew easily and that's another problem
Mine looked like yours…maybe a little worse. It just wasn’t getting enough light, I think, and was ina standard potting mix. I unpotted it earlier in the summer and threw away what couldn’t be salvaged - got three good size cuttings, which have rooted and look ok. I think I’ll just keep them in their little pots over the winter and then pot them all together in the spring in aroid mix spring in an orchid pot. With a moss pole maybe. Plants that grow like philodendrons and monsteras need good air circulation to their roots.
Those growths are roots. Monsteras will naturally grow up other trees using them for support, similar to a vine or ivy. Those roots will grip into the grooves in tree bark giving support and catching water running down the tree trunk.
Oh wow!! That's interesting. So since there aren't any trees beside it, what will happen to them? Will they just continue to grow outside and down the sides of the pot?
@@maplejubilee as the aerial roots get longer...just redirect them back into the soil and they will provide structural support for the plant...as well as form soil roots for nutritional support of the upper leaves.
Wow!! Ok, thanks so much. So what do you do if your aerial roots are growing outside the pot? I have one that is so long now that its almost touching the floor😮
@@maplejubilee your supposed to attach aerial roots to the coco pole or cut it back so it fits back in the dirt in the pot. If you cut them the plant will produce more and your have an out of control octopus plant attaching to your walls and floors! 😆 also his plant likes right pots - you really needed to give it a thorough watering and place it by a south facing sunny window. I replanted mine and it looks awful because I used a pot that was too big. 😢
Do you top or bottom water it? I think it needs more light though, your new leaves have no fenestrations. Those things on the sides are arial roots, your baby wants to climb. You can cut them or guide them back into your pot.
I'm kinda late but, give her a good amount of light and you will be blown away again with size, fast growth and much more of fenestrations on the leaves.
Well done you and your son, but you do know you have a few plants in one pot? You need to have all the backs of the plant facing the back pole. That way it will grow tidy and not all over the place. All the areal roots face the back of the plant.
Don’t clip them they are root stabilizers. The plant climbs so it will stabilize and this roots will go into the soil to help it punch upwards. They also grab on to your stalk or moss stick to grow upwards. Please don’t cut them.
