As I recall, I used Discover generated card numbers for quite a while and they they stopped that features (10-15 years ago). I think their rational was that their fraud detection was good enough. Now-a-days, I will use Google pay or Amazon pay if it is available since this is like an indirect/virtual_card. My rational is these large companies would take security extremely serious. If they don't have that option then as soon as the order goes thru then we go to that site and delete the CC from our account.

When you cancelled that card that was stolen and got a new one, did it affect your credit store given that one component of the score is the length of credit history?
Usually the credit card company just issues you a new card with a new number, but the underlying account is not impacted. But hoo boy, is it a pain to change all those other places where you've given them that credit card number. Just knowing who all those services are is a pain to find out.
I have seen major US banks offer virtual credit card numbers that work with an existing credit account with that bank. For some reason they stopped offering these, and it makes me wonder why? There must be more value for them in us not having that freedom. Limiting who, and how much and how often a vendor can charge against a virtual credit card probably results in less collected fees and smaller credit card balances, which ultimately cut into the banks profits. Just my theory.
I obtained a Discover card years ago (2015?) because they offered a pretty good VCC product - for both 1 time only usage & single merchant recurring charges. Worked great, easy to use. And after a couple of years, Discover discontinued. I spoke to a product manager who said it was because it was cheaper for Discover to offer the zero-Risk that customers could get bogus charges dropped than to provide the VCC platform. But as I pointed out, zero-Risk does nothing to stop fraud. It literally just passes the cost to the CC finance charges incurred by many customers every month. VCC is pro-active prevention while programs like zero-Risk are reactive & band-aids at best. And we have to trust the zero-Risk programs work 'well' every time. I love the VCC concept - no longer do I depend on merchants guarding my sensitive information like CC data. If a VCC is stolen, (let's say some Merchant doesn't encrypt that data...), so what? it can't be processed again. No more card# theft-based fraud. Why wouldn't banks, card issuers want this? As long as they don't actually eat the cost of fraud, they don't care. CC users, merchants pay as we have since day 1 through finance charges & transactions fees.
Why don't they introduce otp system where in the banks send one time passcode to the customer to his mobile phone. That is a good security measure. In India it is mandatory.
How about not doing any of that, draw cash out of the ATM say 50 a month, and pay by cash... 1. limited your self to how much you spend. 2 government can't track what or where you spend 3. shops can't steal your details.

You keep saying "virtual credit card" in these videos, but only Klutch is a virtual credit card. The rest are virtual debit cards. Don't use debit cards. Debit cards don't have the same legal protections as credit cards. A debit card tied to your bank account can quickly empty your bank account. Compared to that, the small amount of effort to manage one or two virtual cards is a minor inconvenience 😉 Living in the UK, banks don't have your back sadly.
You miss the point. If you have to change your "real" credit card number due to fraud or whatever you now have to visit many online merchants to change your online payments. While you are waiting for a new card to arrive you are in a position where all your online accounts like Amazon for instance can't charge purchases. It's a royal pain to change your CC number. One number per online merchant and now if anything bad happens you simply cancel the stolen card and you can issue yourself a new number immediately. I use Capital One for my Virtual Cards so it has the same $0 liability we have become accustomed to with cc protection laws. AN additional feature with Capital One is the virtual numbers are limited for use with one web domain only making them almost useless to a thief.
Hi Josh, I'm brand new to the channel and to security in general. I love your content so far! I apologize if I missed you answering this but, if a virtual card gets hacked and has bogus charges, do we still get reimbursement? My cards have been hacked a lot recently, so I'm interested in this option, but I also have the reassurance that my bank will most likely refund any fraudulent charges that went through. Thanks!
Welcome, Christian! So no, you won’t get reimbursed since they will technically be debit charges on your account (in most cases). However, there are two advantages here: 1) a card cannot be charged for more than your limit. 2) a card cannot be used for a different merchant So the odds of somebody stealing your Netflix card to spend no more than $20 *also on Netflix* is pretty low.
Ha! We run on a mutually agreed upon budget, so it wouldn’t be restricting “her card” as much as it would be restricting a card used for a specific line item.

I have recently applied to Klutch. I have not yet used it because I'm not sure of the best way to pay it off. I chose Klutch because it's a regular credit card. But I failed learn that they want the same access to my accounts as the others in order to pay the bill. My initial, but incorrect assumption (and yes, I know what that means...) was that I'd have a bill to pay just like my regular credit card. But it appears they don't bill you. They want online access to your accounts. It seems they want the same access as all the others, (Privacy, IronVest, etc) ... Instant which is Direct Access to my bank account via Plaid, Manual which is Routing/Account# to my bank account or pay via Wire Transfer. I am still new at this but none of these options strike me as safe. I have looked on UA-cam but can' t seem to find a video on how to securely fund these services. Between Privacy, Klutch & IronVest, all of whom would really like my bank login creds, is there some kind of documentation or video out there that could guide someone on the best secure funding practices to these companies? I mean, the whole purpose behind virtual credit cards is security. But they all seem to want direct access to your bank which kinda defeats the purpose. I love the idea of virtual credit cards but I'm not yet comfortable giving these particular entities my bank info. Maybe I'm already doing this in other ways and just haven't connected the thoughts yet. But I would sure like some kind of info or best practices on the best way to fund these services. Can I ask what option(s) you used to pay your Klutch account and/or Privacy funding source and how you operate it for security? Giving a third party direct access to my BANK account just doesn't seem secure to me. Do you use a separate account some place that you preload or something along those lines? Do you maybe have a video on the best way to fund these virtual cards or how you go about funding them? Thank you !
Does KYC matter to you? Do you prefer virtual credit or virtual debit cards? I'm curious to hear your thoughts in the comments below.

Welcome, Christian! So no, you won’t get reimbursed since they will technically be debit charges on your account (in most cases). However, there are two advantages here:
1) a card cannot be charged for more than your limit.
2) a card cannot be used for a different merchant
So the odds of somebody stealing your Netflix card to spend no more than $20 *also on Netflix* is pretty low.
@@AllThingsSecured Great points, thanks Josh!
Ironvest is the shit loveeee it used blur forever
Can you do a video on opening a cryptocurrency account?
No, I leave that stuff to people who are more qualified than I.
COME ON! MOKE APPS!
*This site why I use PayPal 😁👍*
Why do you mean?
that nail polish on the intro does not go with that sweater my friend. :0😉
Haha! Those stock footage actors just don't know how to dress, do they?
If its US only no matter how good it's useless to me...
@0:34 -- misspelling of "VIRUAL CREDIT CARD FAQ".
Yea, my bad
Looked these all up and every single one of them is way more horrible than you described. None of these services are worth it.
I cringed when you said you could restrict your wife's use of a credit card. Dude.....
Ha! We run on a mutually agreed upon budget, so it wouldn’t be restricting “her card” as much as it would be restricting a card used for a specific line item.
@@AllThingsSecured Thanks for replying. Your videos are very informative and I've learned so much from you. I appreciate the time it takes to produce this content.
@@AllThingsSecured Emma's reply stuck me funny, western woman attitude sounds like. I keep my finances separate so no problem for me. I imagine your answer is accurate but Very tactful answer to Emma never the less. Smiles

Thank you !
