Hi mate, Yes good question. Depending on your business type sometimes Google will offer verification via email or phone. However, most often then not you will need to verify via post card.

Hey Mark, there could be many reasons for this. I suggest you get in touch with Google's chat support.

Your address will still be listed on GMB, you can just choose to NOT let it show. The NAP still applies.
