- Doing When You Wish Upon a Star in Atlanta, 1989. This is one of my favorite songs. I would like to have made a really nice version of it. From my Hot Licks DVD, The Legendary Guitar of Jason Becker.
You can donate to the Jason Becker Special Needs Trust via this link: www.paypal.com...
All donations go directly to assisting Jason and his family in their ongoing battle against ALS.
Not only technique.but also genius of composition.
Sorry I might have misunderstood you, but are you implying that Jason Becker composed When You Wish Upon A Star? The tune is quite a bit older than he is.
That being said, he sure did it in his own style. Unmistakable.
@@hastobe303 no he didnt
@@hastobe303 🤓
Of course he didn't. But the other 30k notes he sure did compose on top. And. And composes to this day. !!!
in my opinion is one of the best guitar player of history
Amen
Agree
shared opinion
Definitely
Amen!
If you are only impressed by his technique then you have a very surface level appreciation of this colossal musician
Jason Becker is the G O A T.
as much as I love this man, Shawn lane takes the cake forsure
@@nam3less242 gotta agree... I love Jason as well , but Lane was the Goat in the Milky way galaxy
@@alexandreluizalves I love them both, but I have to say Shawn had an edge over Jason, Shawn played guitar at least twenty years older than Jason, we'll never know what Becker's ceiling would have been.
There will never be a GOAT
@@Ric_1985 the GOAT
When I wish upon a star... I wish I could see you, Jason... I also wish there were a cure for ALS. *kisses*

His playing is so heavenly and gorgeous ! Thank you for all you have given the world Jason ! Much love to you and your family ❤
That pentatonic lick at 1:54. Jeeze that's fast
Because of your comment on that part of his shredding it inspires me to try to get faster.
He messed up there haha
Sounds like a Napalm Death tune
That was ridiculous
So effortless, so natural...
31 years ago and still among the highest of standards. If anyone has more videos of cacophony or Jason solo, please share them here on youtube. He would have taken the instrument to the furthest part of the universe. Would have loved to see a new cacophony recording and tour. Thanks for the continuous inspiration Jason.👍
Love Jason's embarrassed facial expressions in here when he feels like he messed up.
Dude. I just want to remind you how much we appreciate you...
Today, after watching this, I am a believer. Jason Becker is a legitimate rock god! wow....
I think this might the most impressive clip I've ever seen of Becker.
Man that technique is just super inspiring!
GENIUS
An absolute joy to behold! My favorite guitarist.
The best guitar player and most incredible composer on the planet
Not only does he melt my face. He also melts my mind. Fucking genius
I remember buying Perpetual Burn as a teenager, and being so blown away by it, especially Mabel's Fatal Fable. I wasn't aware that a human being could play so blindingly fast but still sound so beautiful and musical
Siempre que me preguntan ¿Quién es el mejor guitarrista? yo les digo "Jason Becker" 👏
¿Marty Friedman?

Beautiful technique, he makes it look so easy.
Wow I have more respect he condensed it into brightest star of all. Amazing I don't know who sung it but was one of my fave songs ever.
I think everyone who watches this and knows about Jason believes one day he will play again. I know I do. ✊🏼

Hi Jason, how r u? I'm a 17 years old Brazilian guitarrist. Here, the good music isn't always

Whoa... Serious shredding found here . Really beautiful guitar playing kind of like a futuristic Brian May.😎😎😎🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
A very difficult and complex piece. But you were able to put a lot of articulation and emotion in it! I love it! :)
You dont give tips to Jason Becker. No.
@@johngtr3577 it was a case of me having bad English back in a day, not giving advice to Jason, that would have been outrageous xD

I still LOVE to see the stars at night. Sometimes I go stand outside in the night all alone and just try to see how many stars I can see. They say there are more stars than there are grains of sand...
Looking forward to the new album!

Hi Jason,I'm learning Cannon in D sweep picking, but how can i practice for have more speed? i play that so slow
Hey, he is no longer able to play, he has ALS, he's basically paralyzed, look at his fb. This video was made when he was young
I am a sweeper and can help, to gain more speed you need to focus on precision and muscle memory. Practice everything at a paste that is just comfortable, do not care about speed for a moment but instead about cleanliness and your timing
Then there is a point when it just snaps and you will be able to play whatever you practised 5 times faster. It is becase you fingers got used to the motion. It is not about the speed but about teaching them where to go. If they know without hesitation and right times then they will go there at whatever speed your physical limit is ;)
Also metronome is your friend, practice with it from time to time, and don't worry if things don't sound right, they will and everything will be super awesome
I hope that I helped :)
Check out Jason's fb
LeL traco I learnt that piece by using a metronome 'till it became muscle memory
You need to get your sweep picking down cold first to the point of it being just automatic. Learn 2 string, 3 string, 4 string, 5 string and finally 6 string major and minor triads, diminished and augmented as well as seventh chords, sixth chords as well as sus 2's and 4's and eventually upper extensions like 9ths 11ths and 13th's but for now just stick to your triads in the three main shapes in all keys and practice transitioning from shape to shape once you got it down in one position with different groupings like groups of 3's 4's 5's 6's 7's 8's and 9's and further eventually if you want but most stick to 3's and 4's. Work with your metronome and take it slow, very slow at first and just work your way up. Like Orecord0 said once your fingers know where to go speed will be easy to achieve. Also practice different chord progressions, besides transposing them from records of classical music and jazz, which can be difficult at first unless your got your ears together, use a fake book. Jason would do this all the time, just practicing his sweeps over different chord progressions. When you can do that you can learn a piece like Canon in D or Serrana in a matter of minutes. Literally as soon as you memorize the notes you will be able to play it without even practicing it or with very little practice just to get it smoking. ALWAYS GET THE TECHNIQUE DOWN FIRST THEN ATTEMPT A TUNE OR ETUDE OR SOLO OR WHATEVER THAT USES THAT TECHNIQUE. You do that my friend with all your techniques such as sweeping, alternate picking, economy picking, hammer ons and pull offs, legato(all hammer approach) gypsy picking, tapping with different note groupings in all finger combinations and in all keys and there's nothing you won't be able to play! It'll just be memorizing the notes and nailing the mood and phrasing instead of the technique cause you'll have that down already. Makes learning and playing music much much easier, quicker and more fun!
@@merrittmussorgsky2937 the best explanation on getting down lead and speed ive ever heard. thankyou kind sir!!
My father has TMATD too much addiction to drugs
Man next to Hendrix
e demais parabeis
How to get Jason's tone?
That guitar of his, what’s guitar is that ? Looks like a luthiers guitar!
Jason sounds more like Marty Friedman than Marty Friedman here.
How old was Jason by then???
20
The part that starts at 1 minute looks pretty difficult… Jesus
The closest comparison is Hendrix’ Star Spangled Banner…..and Jimi Hendrix doesn’t compare to this guy. JH was great, an innovator, way ahead of his time. Hendrix had “soul.” Yes, all true. Hendrix also had peaked. But
JB was just beginning to
scratch the surface of his talent when he was diagnosed with ALS.
His screw-ups are tabbed, people.
Song name?
