He really was a bit special, wasn't he? The way he synchronised with the chord changes while playing some of the most outrageous phrases, etc. They say you never truly master the guitar but I think Jason really did.
Dude, Jason is the closest thing to Mozart that we had in years, decades, or even centuries. I don't always cry, but when I do, is while listening to one of his pieces.

I've played for just over 40 years. Listening to Van today and all the shit he came up with is simply incredible as there are so many techniques to list. He blew the doors off when he came around in the 70's. Becker is a mutant shredder for sure but unfortunately was robbed so young. Also got to give props to Ed for writing so many great songs. His classical pieces would for sure surprise many great classical composers. And he is still doing it to this day (Triumphant Hearts, end of 2018). My personal favorite classical composition of his is 'Life and Death' m.ua-cam.com/video/FUS-sJMDiso/v-deo.html but everything he composed on a classical side is at masterpiece level. And that's what separates him from the other players, he literally absorbed the influences of no less than 300 years of Western music that came before him.
Disagree. You’re saying that speed determines how great a player is? He also plays faster than Pat Metheny. Is he better than Pat or Larry Carlton? No. Different styles of music but speed makes no difference. Eddie wasn’t just about shredding and he’s said it many times.

The very best to ever pick up a guitar simple as that... at 15 16 17 years old he could play anything and composed masterful works before he hit 18 years of age... a prodigy I believe he'd be writing orchestral pieces if he had not taken ill...indeed he has with the use of his eyes ... Listen to 'Dweller in the Cellar' there are actually 2 different solos there, another toward the end. Also hear 'Temple of the Absurd' solo toward the end, which isn't included here. Finally check more of Jason's works as he is way more than a shredder.

me too. i am surprised i hadnt heard about him. my guy introduced me to his music, although i wanted to kick his behind because he never explained why Jason didnt become a megastar. he told me just to watch.i thought it was gonna be one of those things a la Anvil, until he started complaining about feeling weird, then i looked at my guy, and i knew it was gonna be sad. but, i didnt cry. im surprised. he is a very inspiring human being.

He was truly a one of a kind. Love Marty playing and Jason was so much more genuine genius, they would smile at each other like they too were in the company of the living God. I have analyzed them for years, and a large part of jason's licks are based on marty's ideas, jason's style shines to the max in mabels and dweler in the cellar, opus pocus, serrana. In this and in temple of absurde it sounds more the style of marty than the one of jason

Doing this at a time when there basically was noone to go off of...Even joe sat,Steve Vai was'nt playing like this..I took lessons from Greg and Jason was a great friend of Greg's(played on gregs first album) We can all ask where and what would Jason be doing today..He was Fuckin amazing especially being So young with so much Ear,Dexterity,Songcrafting,ect..His classical sense without even being out of Highschool..deserves all the respect..
If Jason can still perform, he will give Malmsteen a run for his money and even some of the top current guitarist.This guy ROCKS period!! What a cruel blow fate hand it to him. With all the medical advances I wish him a speedy recovery as the world will always need another topnotch guitarist.
Hell yeah, the dude was the most technical guitar player to EVER play. His technique is simply untouchable. His music is brilliant, but vastly unappreciated by most people. I'd kill to have his skills.
If you're more into songwriting, I suggest checking out his second album if you haven't already! It's called 'Perspective' if I remember correctly, and there is a lot less shredding, and a lot more musical aspects!

The arpeggios on the acoustic are unbelievable. It's all excellent, but doing arpeggios on the acoustic so fluidly is just damn right amazing.
