Omg Arlene was such a delight to watch.
Everything time I wanna make cou cou I look for Arlene's recipe (I make it once a year so I tend to forget) and she never fails me
i love the way arlene speaks & explain everything in detail
In Ghana 🇬🇭 this is banku. I couldn't figure out why it tasted familiar when I went to Ghana. I asked for the ingredients and it was okra, corn 🌽 meal and fish on the side. Just like in Barbados 🇧🇧!
Yes this is an African dish that was brought to the Caribbean
Yes yes we do it with a stew/ steam fish on the side, 🇹🇹🇹🇹
This lady has the best trini coo coo recipe I always use it. Tried& true

As a fellow Gonian young lady you have been taught well keep up the great work
You had me up to mixing the corn meal mixture, I’m going to definitely try this method out. Thanks.
I tried this recipe today and it came out perfect. Thank you. My other failed attempts either saw the coo coo too raw or lumpy. Can Arlene return and show us how to make callaloo?
Just learned how to make coo coo Tobago style. Easier than the way my mom made it. I like that you added shredded carrots and coconut milk. Will definitely try it this weekend.
This dish is so delightful especially if golden ray is added!
A derivative of the African dish fufu 😍 love our history
Eel I guess that may help answer the spelling mystery... it should be cucu it would seem.
I want to make this coo coo Sunday with my grandmother and yours is the best ever
Arlene.....you are such a sweetheart!!! Cou Cou (Coo Coo) is one of my favorite dishes, just as you two are my favorite. Love ya both!!! ONE LOVE....

Boy, if/when a young guy like myself gets married, and I decide to get married in Trinidad, I know who to call for catering now. Hopefully my family, who are from there, are not too upset. Lol
I love coo coo by the way. Grew up on it. Great video.
Definitely love the way in which these dishes are made. I tried the char sui pork recently from a previous video and it was great. Keep up the good work.

I made it! Thank you very much ladies! I did 10 stirs after the breathing 😊
Very simple! Thanks!!
That’s a great idea, to add the water to the cornmeal first before adding to the heat. This helped a lot.
I'm going to try this method.. I could never get coo coo right... lol
That way you don't get lumps in it!
Arlene girl you did a great job yummy on coo coo. I will try this

Hi hi there ,thank you so much for your videos ,today i finally made my self for the first time CooCoo ❤
Thanks for this video. Are the okras a must in order to make the CooCoo?
Arlene Issa boss..love the presentation..❤❤❤
My 2cents on the Corn Cou Cou spelling is has follows, it's spelt with the 'U' because our French influence cou by itself in French means neck but together cou cou is also a way of saying 'hello.' This dish is yellow, vibrant, speckled with many bright colours and coupled with the taste...it is definitely saying 'Hello!".
Such a lovely explanation. Coucou! :)
Thanks for this recipe, I just made it (with some modifications to substitute ingredients I don't have). Where I live the corn meal is white, and you have to buy polenta if you want yellow corn meal, so I used what I had... and also I didn't have pimentos (not even sure I know what that is - the stuff inside stuffed olives?) so I used red sweet peppers instead. I didn't have coconut milk, just a tin of coconut cream, so I used that can and just added 'n 3rd tin of water to the mix to make it more milk like. I added garlic and some chilli salt for a little bite and I must say it looks and smells beautiful. I'm going to serve it up with the "braai" aka BBQ we are having later today and I might make a tomato relish sauce to dip the coo coo in, or I might just eat it as is with the meat.
I'm so glad I finally know what to do with the okra I get at the shops and then throw away when they go bad. This is so easy and fits right in to our regular meals... It's going to be delish!
Ok! well someone does it like me adding water to the cornmeal🤦♀️, my mom stirs it directly in and get it smooth, no lumps ,kizzy's laughing is infectious 🤣😍😍👏👍🏽noice job foodie nation.
Me too..it gets lumpy if I add it directly to the hot mixture
i am so loving this thank you so much. I dont cook coocoo because the first time i tried it you could knock out a man with it. i am going to try this this weekend much love.

Modern Wase easy in the fifty’s they never put 🥕 coconut milk it was just ocrhors fresh 🌽 and then they put butter in a round bowl and roll it in the shape of a ball I love ❤️ the modern way less work mine you i am talking about the fifty’s love ❤️ it🇹🇹
In Trinidad we called it. Coo coo. Our recipe was cornmeal butter milk and cinnamon. I will try your recipe looks yummy delicious. Thank you for sharing.
Wah cinnamon wahh..look eh😂
I enjoyed this made it I’m from Trinidad my brother in law is from Tobago I’m going to surprise him 👌❤️I’m in NY
❤wow nice.
Love making this. I'm not a fan of cooked carrots but I tried it the second time I made it. Still nota fan of cooked carrots 🤣
Trying it this way today
In Barbados it's only spelt Cou-Cou and we have been stirring it with an electric hand blender for a while now.
Awesome
Delicious yummy
Hello, so I am a Trini living in the UK. Want to make some for the family during the holidays but here the cornmeal is fine, medium, or course. Not sure which one to use. Can you guys help?
Yummy... I always mess up making Coo Coo it always comes out too course lmao.. Stay Safe everyone!!
Hard work for your food Kezzi
I miss Arlene so much with episodes
I thought Kezzie was getting away from stirring the pot but Arlene you caught her in time
Looks beautiful especially the plating at the end. I think sometimes the coo coo texture turns out different depending on if you use fine or course grain cornmeal.
In Jamaica we call it tun cornmeal.
I had to watch this video twice. The charm and beauty of these two cooks was frustratingly distracting.
Coo coo is coo coo to me, too. I'm a Trini but would recognize cou cou to mean the same thing.
Great job Arlene,!!!buh ah still wah yuh ask yuh Mom or Granma about the method ah mention ...
Hello Arlene,I recognize the tattoo on your hand.I will try the cocoon today …Good Frank day…blessings.

Off topic. Where did you ladies get your earrings?
Well I guess this is the modern way, because in my day,my Mom used to stir it in little by little, while stirring...you never too young to learn 🤔
❤️
Hello kessieann and Arlene, Coo-coo looks amazing, what is that at the end of the skewer? love from Georgetown Guyana 🇬🇾🤗👏🌹
It looks like M&M candy
It's part of the skewer, to give a little grip
Ofc yes it depends on the grade of cornmeal u uses 😋😋😋😋
That's the way my mom taught me how to make coo-coo.
Can Arlene come back to make some crab? *My mouth start to water already*
