When fats become a unstaple, this is where eating your fruits and vegetables comes in and when I mean fruits and vegetables I don’t mean drink juice. It’s even better if you have your fruits and vegetables in a garden because they have the highest amount of nutrients that you need. This will help you with dealing with free radicals when the fat breakdown.
Does eating so many fats cause problems with the gallbladder?
i love your video's, listening to has saved my life! thank you so much
@@georgeblumer1496 it shouldn't.
Someone asked you one time which fat to use for deep frying. You said it doesn't exist (which seems correct) but I was thinking... could a high pressure cooker be used? At 3000 psi water boils at 700 C (I'm joking of course but things do change at pressure, could any pressure be workable?)
if only our educational system was designed in the way you teach in your videos. i learned more in 10 minutes of your videos than 4 months in nutritional class
The Sesame Street issue. Part of education is learning how to learn beyond blips but over time to absorb more information. To learn to mastery, it takes time. He does a great job, but there is a lot beyond it, he probably prepped for a full week to make the 10 min video.
Only REAL educators give solutions. The pretenders gives FACTS without solutions. Wisdom vs. Intellect...
If the education system was designed like that then the health industry would not exist because nobody would need them. And the government you take less money from you and had one less way to control you.
Today’s education emphasizes group work and discussion and frowns on base knowledge and recall.
We are the ones who have to share this valuable magical information. Fasting benefits on UA-cam CURES CANCER IMPROVES IMMUNE SYSTEM GOOD FOR THE HEART REPAIRS cells including BRAIN CELLS and anti aging at just 12 hours 😤 meds and for the skeptic's the research on this is fairly new, in 2016 an Asian guy won the Nobel prize for the research on what goes on in the body while fasting.
Dr. Sten I've been searching for about 2 weeks for a good explanation of saturated fatty acids and unsaturated fatty acids. They were either dumbed down to much or incomplete due to a bias for either one. I am grateful for your complete and balanced explanation. You have answered and filled several bewildering gaps in my understanding Saturated vs Unsaturated Fats. Thank you! I eagerly plan to watch your recommended video "Best Fats To Eat" next.
You always hear about saturated and unsaturated fat then there comes a man who define it for you and make it comprehensible .
Thank you doctor for your expertise
Good job. Im an ex chemist so this takes me back to them days :) well explained
Thank you Pam Duthie. I had no idea you were a chemist. It is well known that you are incredibly smart though.
:D Well it seems we all start out with one thing then have a few direction changes - Mr Olympian to YouTubing Dr
i stick to my butter, olive oil, and the fat that is on the meat because i think that they are good for you. awful advice from the governments telling us to eat margarine and veg oils
Exactly!
Oh yup marge is not food!
quality olive oil is cold pressed with minimal processing
@@fukashima6586 I recently bought Braggs organic extra virgin cold pressed olive oil and I love it!
What government promotes margarine consumption?
I am always amazed by Ekberg. Thank you for the insight and clarity. Answers questions about biochemical foundations of nutritional advice that I've had my whole life, in a few minutes.
Great great video! Incredibly clear about such a complex subject! Better and better !! Thank you so much for sharing!
This is the best video I 've seen so far explaining the science behind the fats , thank you Dr.Edberg
Top instructor on UA-cam. Excellent explanation.
Thank you Dave Howie. I really appreciate your feedback and so glad that you liked it. The purpose of my channel is to explain things better than other channels and help people understand the principles. Comments like yours makes it all worthwhile.
So simple to understand! Thx. Subscribed!
I’ve enjoyed learning from all your videos.... good content and presentation. In this one it would have been more helpful to see a list of the actual fats and foods associated with each category.
You are really expert on presenting awesome knowledge and the background knowledge on what really happen in our body.
I really enjoy all of your videos.
complex subject explained simply by a great educator.
Wonderful video. Thank you.
Finally... thank you doctor for explaining. I've been confused.
Fantastic........ Was never to completely understand the difference between saturated and unsaturated fat
Very well explained
fascinating stuff. thanks for making this understandable.
Thank you Dave Kincla. That is what the channel is about. I want people to understand health, so they can take action in their life. Feel free to ask questions.
best explanation I have seen. Thanks
Doc please make a video on stroke.. and foods to eat as my friend has got stroke yesterday.. make on how to avoid stroke and foods to be eaten
Check out this book:

Well explained,Dr Sten 👍
Thank you
What a great channel.
Thanks, Mr. White!
I love this. Great job
Thank you Owen Video. Good to see you my friend.
Very educational thank you.
Thank you Dat Good Sir.
Dr. Ekberg, thank you so much for giving the education we really need. I just listened to a talk on overeating, the speaker mentioned that olive oil promotes breast cancer. I was shocked and stunned by this piece of information. How could that be? Is olive oil really that bad?
One very important point was, that body uses saturated fats for fuel, which if used may lead to some sort of weight loss. Second point was, when polyunsaturated fats are exposed to oxygen or heat, they become "toxins". Would gladly hear more on this point, does this apply only to polyunsaturated fats, at what point or temperature does this process start, how to get around it besides not exposing it to heat? And in the end, what should be used when frying a slice of meat or vegetables, it you don't want to get intoxicated?
You can use butter or ghee
Thank you so much Dr. Sten for your videos. What about Palm oil ?
Thank you for the knowledge you share. My favorite videos are the ones where you actually give a list of foods to buy, like a grocery list. I was looking for one on cheeses and your saturated vs unsaturated fat video shows you holding cheese but doesn’t really give a list. Could you do a cheese list video?
Thank you 😊 Dr
Good good good man! Thx
Doc, you are awesome! Great info as always! You make me want to change mu diet 😂. Hope to see you in another stream!
That is awesome. When people cut out sugar and processed foods they wonder why they didn't do it earlier. If you change your diet things will taste better, you feel better, and you let your body heal more.
Nice explain action
Thanks so much you're the best
This is useful to know!
Thank you Saadon Aksah for letting me know you liked it.
Thank you,
"this is life-saving information" oh my goodness Dr., if only your words could echo into my distant past, my dad and my brother would still be alive today. Thank you.
Yes, that's the way my dad ate too. He ate eggs and bacon for breakfast every day and some kind of meat with every dinner. Ate real butter and put heavy whipping cream in his coffee. He was always more healthy than me (trying to eat more plant-based and low fat), and he lived until he was 95 years old (still playing golf weekly into his early 90s too).
Tonnes of information..
Dr Sten, i also have learned about hydrocarbons in college .and i could relate to your explanation really..the single -bonded HCs(saturated) refer to alkanes, those with double bonds ( unsaturated) are called alkenes, and the ones with triple-bonds are called alkynes...it is so ironic since supposedly, the triple bonded should be the strongest and more stable...but the byproducts of petroleum oil , like lpg ,gasoline, acetylene, have all triple bonds ...and they are so volatile..so they are not really stable..so thanks much dr.Ekberg for the refresher / additional info.. at least we will not be in doubt anymore what oily foods are beneficial to the body...👍
Mister...You save people!
Dr Ekber, very complicated,
Hello Dr Ekberg. Great video well explained as usual. I have watched a lot of your videos and think they are all great. I just want to rectify a small mistake: you called the fatty acid with 16 carbon atoms stearic acid, that's not correct. Stearic acid has 18 carbon atoms and palmitic acid has 16 carbon atoms.
So I only new the tip of the iceberg on this subject. You just revealed the whole iceberg.
Thank you Sane Enterprises. Glad you liked it. I try to give the information that is not only based on years of real proof (not a lab test), but also things you won't hear about in every other video.
interesting thank you!
You are welcome Lady Penelope. It was my pleasure 😄
Thanks!
You are welcome Parazooxyzimtsäureäthylester. Thank you for watching. 😄
...no doubt that this is live saving!
Fantastic video, except for the super annoying music in the background. For the first 5 minutes I couldn't tell where it was coming from LOL.
Great info as always - Thank you
Thank you Free Your Mind Art.
Many thanks. Great food for thought. As a retired chemical engineer (hydrocarbons) I enjoyed you explanations of isomers. I have no biology background so coming to conclusions about what works in the body is a huge leap for me. I assume short chained fats might be metabolised too quickly, causing insulin spikes (maybe Caproic acid C6H12O2 in MCT oil). Longer chained fats with double bonds near the Middle might be ideal (For example alpha-Linolenic acid C18H30O2 in flaxseed oil). So possibly the later is better for OAPs like myself with veins hardening from straight chain saturated fats. Just trying to understand the complexities of body chemistry thanks.
Fantastic
Great stuff as always. I had no idea that it was okay to eat saturated fats. All we hear is how it will kill you. Thank you.
Thank you Susan Brownell. Yes fats have been targeted as all being bad when there are a lot of good fats.
So interesting
great vid, im studying nutrition and always supplement my learning with your videos as i find them easier to understand sometimes. quick question though, what about mono-unsaturated fats?
Thank you chris howard. Monounsaturated (olive oil) are closer to saturated. That's why they are both good.
Coconut melts right in your hand at room temperature, as to where butter doesn’t.
I buy the lard to make the fat I use to cook at home, but can I reuse this many times or does the heat affect it?
this video was lovely very clear.
@Dr. Sten Ekberg, there is something i did not get very, is it saturated fat better than unsaturated fat?
Now I have a doubt. I use only avocado oil for cooking which is non saturated fat. Now, I buy big, half gallon plastic bottle which lasts for about few months, sitting in dark and room temperature place, tightly capped. Is it still safe and healthy for using after all that time? Should I maybe keep it in a fridge? Thanks
Does combining olive oil and butter on high heated pan is a good idea while cooking? There are some recepies for mushrooms and meat using this technique. I am wondering is it healthy
Health or chemistry lecture? I was trying to gauge on the health component
how do you avoid high cholesterol by using these fats?
which is best?
thank you
How will I ever know if I’m a health champion if Sten doesn’t tell me so?! Am I?
Olive oil isn’t “also called oleic acid”. This is deceiving. There is oleic acid in olive oil, but they are not the same thing. Oleic acid is also found in chicken, nuts, and many other foods.
I break my fast with four half-fried eggs in ghee. Waiting for my next lipid profile. I have lost 30 lbs in 4 months so for after starting low carb and high saturated diet. Thanks to Dr Sten.
Hey Doc I was wondering... if you would come on one of my keto groups and actually talk about some of the fats and educate people a little bit, it would be nice to hear from somebody else other than me.
Sure. I replied to you on your other comment.
Hi, Dr. Ekberg. We are going to be discussing food intake on Wednesday on our livestream! This is great information! Thank you! If you would like to collaborate with some nutrition Q & A, at some point, I would love to talk with you!
Thank you Happy Trails Hiking. Yes, let's keep in touch.
Sir may I call you Dr. Megamind. I didn't get a word you say! ha ha
thank you let it be unsaturated fats forever for us
Saturated, unsaturated, monounsaturated, polyunsaturated,...essential fatty acids,...But still do not know which ones are the good.
what foods are saturated fats and waht r unsaturated ..can you list it?
What is the reliability of Fish oil capsules, room temperature, rancid?
Back when u had an echo:) Found this video trying to figure out the makeup of triglycerides produced by fat cells and liver. I.e. what pct saturated etc.
So, to fry, which fat should we use? Least worse to fry?
If you consume too many saturated fats, does that mean the membranes of your neurons become stiff? If so, what is the turnover rate for fatty acids in your cell membranes? Do they eventually get swapped out if you eat more unsaturated fats?
is frying an egg with olive oil bad? will the oil exposed to heat become rancid?
So is saturated fat healthy or not? For example beef fat etc
In your Omad video you said we can have a meal 75/ 20/5 fats, protien, carb. What 75 fats consist of explain.
Rancidity is why I use high quality LIQUID Codliver oil. Freshness of capsule fish oil is questionable, "Old" liquid fish oil tastes off and can be refused. My go to is of course King Oscar Sardines in Olive Oil.
SFAs have been broadly related with cell apoptosis and this has been associated with several metabolic diseases including T2D. Specifically a decrease in β-cell mass caused by an increase in apoptosis has been linked to palmitic acid. Please Explain
There are many different kinds of SFAs. They act differently in the body according to the chain length. You can't lump them all together simply because they contain no double bond.
Do you have any videos or have plans to talk about how to deal With not having a gallbladder? I took mine out in April and can eat normal food but I do get some bloating and pain in the side after big meals and this last week i feel it's been a little worse. It can be stress too that causes my discomfort but not shure.
I might do one at some point, but have no immediate plans. In the meantime, get some bile salts to supplement when ever you eat a large amount of fat. Okay... I think I will do at least a basic one shortly.
Dr. Sten Ekberg I tried looking for something at the pharmacy but that had no clue. Going to my doctor on Monday. I have a suspicion I have some stones in the bile duct. I don't eat too much fatty food but I could do better. Looking forward to your take on it in a video. Thanks
Why did you have your Gallbladder removed in the first place?? What caused that??
What is monounsaturated fat? Good or bad?
So we should cook with butter and not olive oil?
i'm eating gouda with asian lectuce right now haha
actually it tastes better than with bread coz it's more crunchy and refreshing.
and gouda.i mean you can't go wrong.
does that mean fish oil when consumed as fish is damaging to body? ( because it is heated when it is cooked)
Where does omega 3,6,9 etc fit into this?
Question: is it true that saturated fat increased levels of Lps endotoxin? Isn't it bad? 😮
This was exceptionally clear and accessible lecture. I wasn't aware that the length of molecules affect their melting point. What is the composition of Lard, which is even softer than butter? Lard is very practical for that reason. Beef fat is a pain to wash and it clogs up drain pipes. Is there any truth to it also creating blockages in the digestive system?
Why are people blaming insulin resistance on fat again?
aren't these methane, ethane, propane, etc? I bet you forgot some extra group that's on that is characteristic for fats.
Is polyunsaturated fats good if they come from good sources like oatmeal flax or chia seeds etc
Flax seeds increase estrogen , lower testosterone, and Mr stiffler will be no more
About how much sat per day?
Can a person without a gallbladder eat a high-fat diet?
What if im cyclist what should i eat?
in cheese and butter there is always that 0,3 g of trans fat per serving, i wonder where that comes from
O.K.
REALLLY LOOKS LIKE CREED BRATON FRM THE OFFICE
Looks like Agent 47 to me
😂
hello saturated champions!
So saturated is better then unsaturated, but both in a ratio.
Hi, I’m wondering, would a 1 calorie fruit tea break my fast? I wouldn’t mind a few during the evening but not if it’s going to undo my fasting effects?
