    It's WONDERFUL to see such a great young violinist. And one who is American!! And one who isn't trying to be "too-cool-for-school" the way so many young classical soloists are nowadays. Bravo to Mr. Hagen on this performance. I'll have to check out more of his stuff.

    This song has a very sentimental feeling of contentment, despite its heavy moments. It is NOT corny, but extremely sweet. Laughter can be heard! One can imagine someone looking out beyond TRAGEDY to a better day..... carefully optimistic. Or, as Martin Luther King said, "I Have a Dream," which will someday come true.
    This could be seen and heard as Israel's story. Ultimately triumphant. Great performance.

    One summer break, while I was on vacation in Indonesia and stayed at my grandparents house, I would hear my sister practice on the piano right before lunch time the piano accompaniment for this piece. It has become a piece of nostalgia, as I recall how the rays of light shone through the netted door while listening to her play her piano accompaniment alongside the violin-orchestral version of the piece. I often stood or sat on the cold, refreshing stair tiles or sat on the tree-stump like stools situated around the dining table while in awe of the enchanting melody of the first movement.

    this sounds so much like movie music/film score, especially when the first theme comes in with the orchestra after the violin plays it.
    edit: shoot it is from a movie I just read the wikipedia page
    also i saw him perform once with my local orchestra. it was very cool. he played the stravinsky concerto. i feel weird watching him on youtube after seeing him play in-person. i honestly would have preferred it if he played a concerto with more so-called 'lush romanticism' like this one, but i'm not complaining 'cause i still got to see him play :D

    Matthew writes below that this is the first time he's heard this concerto and he's in 'absolute awe'. Well, if there are any more of you like Matthew spread the word! Because this is a tuneful and accessible piece that doesn't make it any less great. The only parallel here is Tchaikovsky's - another concerto which lies at the heart of the repertoire without being 'deep'. This wonderful concerto should be better known! Thank you for posting.

    • @wadrianalefe6490
      @wadrianalefe6490 4 роки тому +13

      There is no sacrilege... sometimes we tend to overrate people because of their names and startet forgetting the power of our own opinions.
      There's a lot of recordings out there (by Heifetz, for example) that aren't good really, but we tend to think that the player behind them is immortal, so we are the wrong ones for judging such person.
      Understand that music is not something where you can rank people. Then, feel free to appreciate different individuals.
      And more: there are violinists out there who aren't recognized by others, who don't go to concertos very often to play, that are forgotten by the most part of the public and they are as great as those who are well known in the classical music community.
      Having your name there is actually a sum of privileges, contexts... not always it really means how great the musician is

    Please watch this at the lowest quality only (144p) since it's just for the music, which is much more ecologically responsible than at a higher rate. Watching this at 240p (which is unnecessary for listening purposes), will increase the bandwith by double to almost tenfold! At 1080 the bandwith is augmented by a factor of 100!
    The use of digital technology accounts for 4% of the world's greenhouse gas emissions, as much as the emissions from the world's truck fleet. Of that, a BIG part comes from livestreaming videos, mainly 3 sources : UA-cam, Netlfix and porn.
    Let's enjoy this beautiful music by being aware and responsible and doing our little part in protecting this wonderful planet.

  • @ronaldbwoodall2628

    This concerto doesn't climb any dramatic heights as some of Korngold's scores do, but its pleasant lyricism is winning. Like Samuel Barber's concerto, it saves the fireworks for the finale with its infectious dancelike swagger. Violinist Hagen is new to me; he has a nice tone, but did he miss a note at 1:57, and have a slight "fluff" at 11:37? (I don't usually notice these things, and here it could be my imagination working overtime.)

    • @narekavakianmusique
      @narekavakianmusique 6 років тому +16

      Ofcourse he is not Hilary Hahn, because he is William Hagen and he have no reasons to be Hilary Hahn))) To do some mistakes is normal, what is important that the complete picture of this performance is convincing. And yes, it was your imagination working overtime :-)

    There were moments of virtuosity but in my opinion, the soloist just didn't connect with the piece. My suggestion to him would be to spend a generous amount of time listening to the recordings made by the person to whom this piece was written, the late, great, and lamented Jascha Heifetz!

The Hundred YearsWar has always interested me greatly, and a few years ago I read a biography of him by a German author, Siegfried Obermeier, who seemd to think de Rais had a secret crush on Jean d'Arc, with whom he fought, supposedly because she looked so much like a little boy in her armour it really turned him on.
