OMG thank you so much for posting the movie here, and I'm glad it's a legal version! I watched on Netflix 4, maybe 5 years ago and then they took the movie off and I couldn't find it anywhere after that! I searched for the songs and find this video and now I'm crying in happiness
I wish this movie had so much more popularity; it deserves all the flowers! The character development, the world building, the irony and intricate duality of "forcing a lifestyle", and the humor as soo good, and top it off with amazing lyrics and melodies. I find something new everytime I watch it :) if youre just watching this and havent seen the short film, it is worth the watch. This will forever be a favorite

This movie was my childhood and I'm so glad to find and watch it again after it being taken off of Netflix! Jay helped me realize I was trans (I wanted to be him so fucking bad) and this movie saved my life multiple times. Much thanks to every person who was involved in this.

This movie feels like a time capsule - it's a scathingly accurate and satirical portrayal of what it was like to be in high school in the 00s. And as someone of that time, I can't get enough of it!

I can't help but put on my analyst's hat when watching films but I noticed a little detail between the two songs around the 37:15 mark. Ethan sounds far more comfortable and natural playing acoustic songs, but when singing the lyrics for the harder rock song, they felt and sounded clumsier. Like he was just putting words that would make him seem cool to Bradley haphazardly together. Not sure if this was intentional or I'm just reading way to into this, but definitely an interesting perspective regardless.
As a Christian I want to clarify that you can, in fact, go to church and Heaven even if you aren’t baptized lol It’s about what’s in your heart and truly loving God! (Isaac is a poor example of a Christian, don’t listen to him💀)
I remember watching this movie years ago on Netflix, I thought it was super super niche so I'm surprised that other people know about it as well! As an emo I always had mixed feelings on the musical because on one hand the songs are a banger but also, I feel like the movie really misrepresents emos? Like, we're painted as suicide-glorifying tryhards, which really couldn't be farther from the truth, especially considering many emo bands (mcr, tøp, etc) make songs specifically DISCOURAGING suicide and telling the listener to stay alive. The majority of the emo community may be depressed but that only makes us MORE aware of how important it is to encourage each other to stay alive. I mean it's been a long while since I've seen the movie so maybe I'm remembering things wrong, but I feel like anyone who isn't emo (and knowledged enough to understand that this isn't what we're like in real life) would get a very wrong impression of what emos are like after watching this musical (like, emos don't largely glorify suicide, and being emo and religious are definitely not mutually exclusive??), even if it is satirical. So overall I think it's a fun movie to watch as an emo, but I've always been worried about a portion of the audience taking away the wrong things from this depiction of emos. I'm glad I found this video lol, I've always wanted to share my thoughts on this movie because it crosses my mind every once in a while but I've never found anyone else who has watched it or any place to talk about it! I don't know if anyone else shares my sentiments about the harmfully inaccurate representation encouraging stigma and stereotyping of the emo community but idk, at the end of the day I was like 13 or something when I watched it so it's totally possible I misunderstood the level of satire?

One of those movies that would be vastly improved by a killing spree ending. I don’t care who does it or who dies, I just think it would be better. Also this movie treats an Emo band like a Scorsese treats a mafia crew and I love it. Also also, if this were a Pure Flix movie, Isaac would be the main hero… so there, well done. The producers of this movie understand Christianity better than the Christian movie studio. I may sound snarky, but this movie’s actually really impressive, and it’s a lot better than a decent amount of Hollywood movies coming out at the minute.
This movie is so wonderfully written. Except the songs, but they're so funny it doesn't really matter. The jokes either hit, or land so poorly they're funny anyways. To me this movie is a solid 9/10 god I love it so much (except the electroshock therapy idk that wasn't funny to me)

WIth the running electroshock joke, I initially saw it more as making fun of the issues you described. I see and understand your perspective/intention behind it now. I didn't mean to nitpick something so wonderful. I really thought I was shouting my thoughts into the aether, not directly to the creators of the show. And yes, the end of peter's storyline is wonderful. Everyone got their fairytale ending.
