Metro North Trains on the Hudson River!

- All aboard! This week, we're back on the East Coast of the USA to take a look at some Metro North commuter trains as they run up and down the Hudson River! We'll visit several scenic locations along this beautiful rail line. Train equipment is a mix of electrically powered self propelled cars, called electrical multiple units (EMU for short) and locomotive hauled trains, pulled by P32ACDM locomotives. These locomotives can either pick up electrical power from the electrified third rail or they can run off the onboard diesel motor. Sit back, relax, and enjoy Metro North trains on the Hudson!

Excellent (as always) footage. Watching this video really hit home with me. I was an engineer with Metro North for 22 years and I used to love running trains on the Hudson line, especially between Harmon and Poughkeepsie.

Yes, quite a few times. I ran them on the Hudson line and the Danbury and Waterbury branches. I loved running them much more than the newer Genesis engines.

Although I wasn't alive at the time, I really love seeing old footage of the Hudson Line, back when FL9s ran practically all the trains on the Metro North and Amtrak. I was born about a couple of years after Amtrak retired their fleet, but just imagine how cool it would be to see them in the modern day...
Well, you may be seeing some of them used as cab cars this summer on some Amtrak trains.

Not anymore, Amtrak installed nose doors in their 32’s.
New Milford RAIL FAN Wow. As painful as that is to hear, it's unfortunately the better direction for Amtrak to go in. Trying to renovate the old FL9s into NPCUs would have been relatively costly for them at the end of the day. It sucks though because I found out my family's going to New York City in a couple of weeks and I was gonna try to find a way to get some footage of them on the Hudson line...

Hopefully these stations will be on train simulator 2019 this year I would love to drive the Hudson line from grand central station up to poughkeepsie new York on train simulator 2019.
Someday I want to visit New York.

2:32 What location is that along the Hudson line? Back in February I took Amtrak from NYC to Poughkeepsie, and I don't remember seeing that tunnel.
You probably took that second track unless you took it both ways or it could be a different line

That's just north of the Garrison Station on the line.

This was all still from back in May and June. I will be releasing one video a month from the east coast. Each month will be a different railroad. Next month is Long Island Railroad.

Great video. I have subscribed. But 225 looks a little bit beat up. I thought after it derailed 4 years ago in 2013 and was sent to GE in Erie Pennsylvania for rebuild and repair they would have replaced all the damaged sections leaving not even a clue it had derailed before or maybe they simply just hammered the dents to be flat again with repaint. Funny!

I've always had a question with the cab car. If there is a cab car, do you need the diesel engine?
PG13hockeyman yes, the diesel supplies all of the power, the cab car is just a control room on the back of the train so the engineer does not have to spend fuel turning the engine around or has to strain his eyes to look back to see whats coming from 6 cars away.

Oh and by the way do those cab cars have an RS3L which I'm guessing
Most of them have Leslie RS2Ms witch have two of the bells from the RS3L. But sometimes these will have RS3Ls.
