- Looking initially to sell within New Zealand (where I am located) but may look into selling it internationally if there is enough serious demand. NOTE: This is not the Top Speed Video bike. Any questions feel free to ask.
1989 Kawasaki ZXR250R (B1) #109/750
Registered and WOF until September 2020
Immaculate condition and one of the cleanest and most original examples of the historic 19000rpm screamer. This particular one is number 109/750 of the hotter 250R models which were first built in 1989 (B1) with production stopping a year later in 1990 (B2). The 250R (B1/B2) model had a few differences to the standard bike with larger 32mm carbs, different tyres, longer gear ratios in 1st, 2nd and 3rd, different CDI (coupled with the bigger carbs helped produce more power) and subtly different liveries (some, like this one, having the Sports Production SP stickers on the tail). This bike has complete matching engine and chassis numbers along with subtle reminders of its originality/rarity. Only 19,200km on the clock.
I have owned this bike since November 2017 (along with other concurrent ZXR250’s) and have carried out all the necessary work & servicing to bring it up to a high level of mechanical and aesthetic order. It was imported from Japan to NZ in July 1999 with 14500km and has mainly been stored in collections since then.
In my ownership it has had:
New Air Filter
New Spark Plugs (NGK CR9E x4)
New Coolant
Engine Oil Change & Filter (Motul 5100)
Complete Carburettor Ultrasonic Clean & Rebuild with New Gaskets
Carburettor Sync and Tune
New Battery (MB9U)
New Fork Seals and Fork Oil
New Clutch Friction Discs & Springs
New Sprockets (Front & Rear) & DID Chain
Rebuilt Brake Calipers w/ New Front Pads
Rebuilt Front Brake Master Cylinder w/ New Seals
New Brake Fluid & System Bleed
New WOF & Rego until September
Full Detail & Paint Polish
Included in the sale:
Tyga Performance Carbon Muffler (Loud) in addition to Original Muffler
Original Pillion Pegs and Grab Handles
The ride:
The larger carbs allow the bike to pull significantly harder than my standard ZXR250, especially at higher speeds. The sound is also slightly angrier which is emphasised with the Tyga muffler and at high RPM it has that screaming howl of a 90’s Formula One car. Despite being 250cc it sits at 110km/h happily and welcomes a cheeky blip & downshift every time you go under a bridge. The bike is very light and flicks into corners easily. Engine runs smooth and is very easy to start. If the new owner plans on riding it particularly hard I would suggest getting a new set of softer tyres as a precaution.
Summary:
Most of these bikes have been treated badly over the past 30 years with a lot of the standard ones having been smashed around. This bike has original fairings in the proper Kawasaki Racing colours. Even a lot of the examples that you see come up in Japan have small things that aren’t quite right or are misquoted as being an R model when they infact aren’t.
If you are serious, I encourage you to come and view the bike. Selling to downsize my collection.
Bike location: Auckland
I just stumbled across this video, and wow, it brought back so many great memories! I used to have a 1990 Kawasaki ZXR 250 just like this one. Such a classic bike with that unmistakable sound and style. Riding it was always a thrill-thanks for the nostalgia trip!
Hell this would go nice with my new ZX25R that should be coming in December........love 250 inline four's
Such a clean bike mate! Well done
Hi mate, where do you source parts for these? I am in the process of doing one up in Australia. Had one as a young fella, and trying to relive that dream by restoring one.
Great to hear! Most parts I try and reuse if they're original, tidy them up as best as I can. For broken bits I've found wemoto aus is pretty good and wreckers for anything else. Main thing is to start with a bike which isn't completely fooked!
Hello there mate. Do you have any idea about the size of the inside diameter of a brand new valve seals for ZXR 250 A?
man i wish i have the money
I purchased the same SP as yours from the JDM. Yours is sweet. Looking to sell mine. Has the same miles as yours. Have any idea what its worth? Located in the Midwest.-Thanks
They're great bikes aren't they! I sold it about 3 years ago when I posted the video for about $9,000 NZD ($5,250 USD) located in Auckland New Zealand. That was a really good price, at a time where people were going crazy for collectible bikes... The market has softened a bit, maybe $4,500 USD??
Thanks for the fast reply! Were these available in NZ? I dont think there are SP's here in the US.
@SpringForestDeli I'm not sure if they were available NZ new but I could be wrong. This one, much like yours was imported from Japan early on in its life I believe.
I’m from Japan.
I have zxr250a.
zxr250a is nice.
