- Capitol Records 1994 single "Keep It Real" from New Jersey resident Miilkbone. Miilkbone appeared on the underground hip hop scene backed by production from Mufi , Nik Wiz & Naughty by Nature's own Kay Gee. Miilkbone's debut release "Da Miilkrate" saw low sales when initially released in 1995. Miilkbone was eventually dropped from Capitol Records. He later reemerged in 2000 releasing "U Got Milk?" He was also featured on a Death Row Records compilation the same year.
The flow. The beat. The clothing. The graffiti. The realness.
TheUGhiphop I know right, noddin my head on this forever. People keep saying go listen to Logic/Joey Badass and shit but none of those guys can recreate that 90s vibe.
They aren't trying to recreate it. They are simply extending its life.
Just Some Guy On The Internet Then people should stop saying they're recreating the 90s vibe.
MrEnjoyBeats If extending its life does so, it is what it is. Quit being a purist and just enjoy the music .
Just Some Guy On The Internet How is it extending the 90s if they doesn't sound like the 90s at all
This is the boom bap rap most of us Hip-Hop heads love.
Probably one of the most well known golden age hip hop beats.
So underrated. Just listening now 2024
one of the BEST hip hop beats ever MADE!
Dopest beat indeed
WORD UP
Even though he was overshadowed by Big L & Jay Z, gotta give him props for the beat selection and contributing to greatness. I hope all is well.
Overshadowed because of his skin color, not because of anything else. Dont forget that.
@@curto201 happens to so many, sad shit.
@@curto201 I mean literally no ones going to outshine Big L
@@curto201 Mass market appeal is much more likely to pick up a decent white rapper than a great black one, never forget that. Its crazy to think being white hurts you, especially in the modern hiphop scene.
@@JordanCorkinsthis white dude acted hella black low key
Can't stop playing this joint. I discovered the Big L and Jay-Z freestyle 11yrs ago and finally found this. Miilk killed this shit.
Big L and Jay did some justice to this track on that Stretch and Bobbitto spot...I know what video you mean though, it was one of the great freestyle videos on early UA-cam. Now, Milkbone? Dude would be a forgotten name if not for this beat and his brief clash with Em
@@billybones6463 true, but he still did his thing.
lol i'm going through the exact same but 7 years later than you did 😂
@@eastsidelingo8404 miilkbone killed it. better than Jay and L.
A lot of people discrediting milkbone. Shame on you. The man brought this timeless classic to us ❤️
Agreed. This is classic, banging rap track end of.
That AZ sample from Life's a Bitch is literally the cherry on top of it 🤍🙌
It's like a tradition on this beat. AZ's voice goes well with classic boom bap. Adds a lot of flavor. Logic retouched the Life's a Bitch sample when he reused this beat as well. He sampled a bit of Nas' verse as well as AZ's.
Big up naughty by nature
This instrumental is more famous than Miilkbones whole career
I love Miilkbone, but fuck me that's true
Matt Marvin sad but true indeed lol
😂
He still killed the beat though. The dopest white emcee prior Eminem
Dᴏᴘᴀᴍᴇᴀɴ ᴏᴛᴍɪᴄ: And he STILL is better than Eninem
Dude was slept on. Straight fire!!
This is got to be my favourite beat of all times
Respect underground hip-hop.
Str8RapMuzik no doubt brother
facts
CAPITOL RECORDS are not an underground label, fun fact, underground music is for the circle of friends not a whole stage crowd, reality frequency
I bought this album back in the day...the production is so tight on this, and he could spit. Love this song; real hip hop
This is the kind of beat that you and your dude just bob their heads and vibe.
Miilkbone was super ill! He was down with Naughty By Nature! So many unsung heroes of hip hop!
Ductur Platypus
where can i find that?
AnsemSephiroth95 facebook.com/MIILkBONE4life?fref=ts
His most recent album is 🔥 too
I wonder if he’s still with them cause i recently seen an interview with Treach on UA-cam where he said that he’s currently working on solo material and he wants Eminem to produce his album.
Logic was a big fan of his. I wish he'd do a single with him
No video chicks needed...just str8 hiphop, son.
AZ ON THE HOOK! RESPECT! Throw Anthony Cruz in the rap hall of fame
Anthony Cruz of Natural Elements?
@@chessbox4776 az
It's just a sample from Illmatic I think.
@@KungFoo1 It's from Illmatic, but that's AZ. He made many classics with Nas.
AZ = The Most Underappreciated/Underrated
When rap had intregrity, when hip hop had lyrical prowess
Tell me about it now
Dat was the real moves back now we have this dabbin shit
ikr what the fuck music industry has come to ?
When it comes to the Instrumental this is more iconic than Miilkbone's career, but he deserves more respect because he could rhyme and flow well.
This is fucking good. Gives me a gray winter day in Newark feel. Waiting for the train and what not. Good shit thanks for da upload
he's from Perth Amboy... I grew up with him.....
Underground hip hop in the 90s was so damn dope
I was like 4 when this song and video dropped. Remember it all to this day. Milkbone is as underrated as Masta Ace. One of the MOST OVERLOOKED AND UNDERRATED
HELL YEAH~~
how many freestyled on this one....unbelievable...fantastic track.
I lost track, I even freestyled while writing this sh!t 😂
When Rap and hip hop was real.
“realizing the realism my life and actuality”
Just discovered this track... forget the new shit, there's still so much old school Hip Hop out there to discover. I'm only 16 years too late...
I remember bringing this album home as a kid 🥹
His word play and his rhyme pattern and flow are exactly like Treach 😔
Interesting. Why so much hate? When this came out a lot of "real headz" felt this song.
I don't really hear exact copying of Treach. I'm not even a big lover of Milkbone, but comments seem off imo.
More sounding like Rakim but everyone copied him and then Nas who copied Rakim. Would you diss AZ because he sounds similar to Nas?
Imitation (see: sampling) is one of the most common things in hip-hop. Jay-Z was a carbon copy of Big Daddy Kane when he first started.
Sometimes that doesn't work. Were you around when this song came out? I am a DJ and was on college radio and hip-hop DJ's on the station put this track in their rotation so clearly they didn't think it was wack.
One of my favorite throwbacks. Didn’t realize until now how crazy his hand gestures were. Sign language on steroids
Jersey Stand Up! Classic track right here! Straight out of the Delaney Homes. A forgotten piece of history
Man of the year brought me here not gone lie.
this is an all time top ten beat for me
I grew up to this. I moved from NJ to Cincinnati and couldn't believe when I seen this on Rap City. I recorded it right away. The good ol'Days
Every time I listen to this classic gem it brings me back to my childhood kicking it with my homies smoking blunts💯💯💯
How can this dude not have this song on iTunes? How is that possible? Insane. And the instrumental? Wow.
It's on iTunes beloved
Best time ever for rap/ hip hop , party was good friends were plenty and all over the place it never seemed to stop. I miss it
Miilkbone is amazing
He was extra animated!! His lyrics are fuckin amazing for back in those times though.
Man, I wish I would've know about Miilkbone as a kid when he came. This would have been right up my alley, and was right when I first got into hip hop(mostly through wu-tang, nas, snoop/Dre, even coolio/gangstas paradise/dangerous mind soundtrack.)
90s hip hop and rap will always beat today's bullshit we have to listen to now! R.I.P
2024 still listen here en Latinoamérica...Chile ❤❤❤
This beat was in my head through out my mid 90s till 2000. So spiritual, it takes you high in the sky. Damn
Miilkbone is a rare gem 💎 for those who always keep it real if you know you know! 🙌 95’
I'll be bumping this album start to finish for a long time to come 👊
Mad respect for Big L but just because Big L and Jay-Z are who they are and the household names they became doesn't mean they have to do anything and everything better than anybody.
Nobody came close to this... not even the instrumental alone... because when you hear the instrumental your brain cant stop laying Miilkbones vocals automatically and magically over it... and it will keep it real for you.
This beat, the lyrics, the vocals, the black and white video, the Naughty By Nature clothing, no cars, no money flashing, no appealing to sex... and that refrain... this is perfection!
Yeah it took a minute to figure out that Milk is best suited for this beat. When a beat suits that specific person and style it translates a classic in all aspects of the hip hop game. That dude wears the beat on his sleeve! Peep the moves. It speaks for its self! And on top of that - AZ on the hook is like the cherry on top. Real musicians got ear for the sound and Good eyes have sight of potential!! I’m tired of people just sayin the beat is dope because it’s great itself but they are ignorant of the whole production!! 💯
AZ killed the hook
Andrew Cedeno It's only sampled.... I hope you know this...
+LC LC Still dope tho
sampled from Nas' "Life's A Bitch" track off Illmatic
Yes from life’s a bitch with az and nas.
This beat is just screaming Golden Age!
I remember those times man that was hip hop. I will never forget those good times 💯🇵🇷☝️💪😎
This beat is sooooo 🔥🔥🔥🔥
"cause amboys a half way house, and this is my last day out" so sick being a Jersey native.
DjGyroGuru it's that bad man? Lol
2024 anyone??
me
Today anyone ?
In 3584 anyone ?
Me
Aaaaaiiiighttt
Still keeping it real in 2024
i dont understand how this wasnt a giant hit and such a shame milk never made it big.
One huge reason was Capitol Records released his album around the same time they closed their urban music division.
Ironic the dude was str8t dropped from Capitol Records and this track is lit AF even in 2023........CCCCRRRAAAZZYYY YYYOOOO!!
PURE TRUE HIP HOP EMCEEING WORD UP..
Bumpin' this in 2014!!
2022😅
@@McRemmyBaby2023 bout to be in 2024
I still remember having this song on tape when I was a kid
underrated afff bro
The song is actually dope lyrics and all
Beat is better than most rappers careers today…
Miilkbone was dope! It’s sad he stopped rapping before hitting his prime in the 90s
It's funny, all this time I didn't notice the Naughty By Nature similarities. The beat, the flow, even the damn video!
He's wearing a Naughty By Nature hoodie lol
that's how the hiphop cats in Jersey did it
still love that good ol' body language. it speaks volumes!
How tf did I miss this jewel in the 90s? 😳🤦🏿♂️
feeling like da man of the year!
Milk bone can spit and he was good enough to make it. He also has a beef track on Death Row records. Good rapper. Deserved to do more
This a hidden 💎
It’s is real rap, respect bro This shit has heart
Dope track. Word up.
Man, I miss the 90’s😢
Damn .. these were the dayss bac in the 90's when everything was alll goood in the hoood chilling with real cats, bumping real music and pounding those 40's
Ls freestyle is nice but Miilkbone song is twice as good. pure hip hop. Not the chopped up $hit from now a days. Track is smooth as hell. It ain't hard to tell
Nice movement nice bars nice time good old days..
I was not even born when this song came out but damn I love it!!
Sounds better than the stuff that’s out now. I’m not just saying that because I’m 45 yrs old. Just listen. Proof’s in the pudding. Damn I’m old lol
Rich homie killed thus beat x Man of the year
I want to go back to the 90's!! Every artist was different and you had to be nice as an MC
I had know idea this was even someone else’s beat and I’ve probably heard that big l freestyle since 99, today in 2024 is my first time hearing this
Memory lane... Love this beat. Kay Gees production is tight
Unrated....good flow....good beat...good hook.... good song!
The rhymes are so dope my era was fire golden era hip hop
Nice to see this video cracked 500k but i remember this video having over 2 million views
Just discovered this track, known the beat forever tho, just played this about eight times in a row, shits flre, and I will always love and listen to underground till the day I die, 40 yrs young

Milkbone actually had a dope flow. I've never listened to the actual song, just the instrumental.
This is forever... 🔥🎤🎧💪💯🙏
They dont make em like this anymore*❤💯 underground hip hop will never Die!!!❤❤❤
K-Def recreated this beat on his "One Man Band" album. Timeless music.
I haven't heard this in 30 years. I almost shed a tear.
funny how old school hip-hop was all about the sound, read the lyrics of most 90's music, its pretty much simple lyrics all the way through.
you just don't get it...it fit our lifestyles at that time..no fuckery like today!
+B Ford thats what im saying, we didnt care about lyrics back then, we cared about shit we related to and the representaion of hip-hop.
Keepin it real, Packin steel, Gettin highhh
Didnt i see you on a pro era or fbz related vid?

Golden era for real...
Such a fly Old school Joint.............Not to mention got that Naughty by Nature Sound
I ain't about to sit back and talk about gats and Glocks
And busting caps on blocks, cracking on practice cops
You couldn't handle when I'm deep like a diver
The kooky corner conniver keeps my streets liver
I play the DL and watch the outskirts
I write an I'll verse and never shout words that make makes my mouth hurt
I go to' place and rap to groovy breaks
Popping in the fuji tape and watch all the moves we make
We're getting open until we're choking
I feel over in the goodie goodie, the woodies are swinging while he's
Smoking
I generate the girls, good night, I spread the hood life
My lyrics and my style don't match what I look like
You know not to pass judgement, my ass ain't budging
I kill a fast dozen of your family and do your last cousin
Straight from Jersey doing just what I feel
Steal a meal, I'm the druggie that deal but keep it real
We were beginners in the hood and my mentality
Is keeping it real, packing steel, getting high (keep it real)
We were beginners in the hood and my mentality
Is keeping it real, packing steel, getting high (keep it real)
My lifestyle's fast lane without speed bumps or rolling tree stumps
Given free blunts, I only had to smoke weed once
To rap while I puff that and chill as I bust back
To battle miilk I love rap to beat me I don't puff crack
See I'm the dopest that you don't wanna smoke with
Been rhyming since the days of puffing joints out the roach clips
I wake up every morning and I always wonder why
Peeps are ODed treat my streets like a slumber
This ain't a vacation spot so go claim your Glock
So many names with spray cans we can paint the blocks
I dream tough, I never chill with no creeper with no cream puff
Hang the sporty kid at bottom of my saggy jeans cuffed
I keep the power to speak, I ain't a flower for freaks
My dirt's deep, I even go without a shower for weeks
So back up off it, you fags had to forfeit
I wet so many heads they call my crew Farrah Fawcett
Sprinkle over here there whenever I feel
I'm no beginner or winner but my deal will keep it real
We were beginners in the hood and my mentality
Is keeping it real, packing steel, getting high (keep it real)
We were beginners in the hood and my mentality
Is keeping it real, packing steel, getting high (keep it real)
We were beginners in the hood and my mentality
Is keeping it real, packing steel, getting high (keep it real)
We were beginners in the hood and my mentality
Is keeping it real, packing steel, getting high (keep it real)
It's no illusion, I'm grooving, the L got my brain moving
The pain soothing and my crew got the same movement
The boom's like the moon on the run from the Sun
Stay spark in the dark daily where we come from
I'm cool with the careless kids who rock crusty fronts
They got rusty lungs from smoking dusty blunts
They puff like pros so call em ashtray mouths
Cause there was a halfway house and this is my last day out
So I'mma catch wreck, knock off your headset
Bullet holes in five-o will make the the funny feds sweat
I'm from' AKA The Violent Village
Dirty Delaney is where I be illin
My tiny town is thumbs down
Finger tips are splitting blunts
Competition walks away, fixin' fronts
I bully break beats and dominate my I'll fate
Lampin' on the milk crate until late it feels great
We were beginners in the hood and my mentality
Is keeping it real, packing steel, getting high (keep it real)
