I bought a used van once. The price was very competitive, and there were no others available at the low price the dealer was asking. The dealer said someone else was looking at it earlier in the day, and tried to offer much less. Then the dealer told me they already had a great price on the van, and they were not taking what the offer was. The customer told the dealer they would go home, and think about it. I came along, and knew the price was good, and had a mechanic inspect it while they let me drive it alone. There were no problems, and I knew the same vans used were $2,000 to $4,000 higher elsewhere. The dealer also said they like to price their inventory to move quickly. I ended up making the purchase, and as I started to leave with the keys the people who looked at it earlier in the day came back to get it. The dealer then told them they should have bought it earler in the day because he just sold it. He also had his payment in hand. That is what people get when the price is already very competitive, and still try and get something cheaper. This happened back in 2009, and I still own that van.

True, but they could not have done the work and asked the same price. The customer would never have been the wiser. Repairs on vehicles are expensive no matter where you go.

I’m new to this channel, so this may have been covered before, but I have a hard time understanding why some dealers are so reluctant to negotiate over the phone.
There are hundreds of dealerships around me, and I’m trying to get the best price as a buyer.
If I find something that’s somewhat close to the price I want to be at, why in the world would I drive to the dealer to negotiate? Just pickup the phone and call. If they aren’t willing to meet me at the price I’m willing to pay, simply move on to the next of the tons of dealers.
From my point of view, the only reason the dealer wants me to come in is so they can try to talk me up to a price higher than I want to pay.
If a dealer won’t talk numbers with me on the phone it raises a massive red flag. But maybe that’s just me.

The dealers in our area don't budge at all on their prices so I'm surprised you would even entertain an offer. 37 for that Suburban seems like a really good price. Does the GM certification include a 1 yr bumper to bumper? I bought a GM certified Traverse once and it included that which I thought was worth paying a little extra. From a customer's point of view... if I'm a repeat customer at the dealer and especially if I do all my service there I would be offering the 2.5k under asking in the hope that you would meet me in the middle, but like I said I have bought multiple vehicles from local dealers and they still don't budge at all. "Internet" prices are usually on the aggressive side already to move the vehicles fast.

Of course, no reason to move on price supply and demand rule here. however maybe give her something that way she has a good experience and wants to come back. I just bought a 2019 jeep grand Cherokee, for my wife and they did move one thousand off the price although I was there morning till night. This was a large jeep dodge dealership in Florida and had a lot of inventory and looked like they were moving a good number of cars and trucks. My salesman sent me a coupon for a $25 oil change l was thrilled even little things count. Hope the sale goes through.

I think with all the demand, and the fact you've had multiple people calling on it even before pictures are up, you stand your ground on price. You're priced to market, and aren't charging any BS fees which is commendable. Now, if the woman you're working with has a desirable trade in, is financing with your store, and is local to do service work there, maybe you give up $500 or so on the price to get the deal done now, otherwise, politely tell her no and sell it to the next person who is willing to pay what it's worth.

Most places provide you with certian vehicles based on how many units of that model that you sold. For instance, I work at a Chrysler store. If we sell a ton of hellcats and scat packs then we have a larger allocation for those vehicles and generally will get more of those in.

. I know GM dealerships hate to discount Suburbans and Tahoes, Why should you? You sell all of theml. I usually get a discount on new Chevys, I bought a new Tahoe last year, I paid retail. I understand that you guys mark them up. I would never pay that and would never come back. But you can help this person buy the Suburban and make her feel good about the purchase. I know you are not a charity, but I'm sure that you are still making a profit.
