    Very good lesson there, Jennifer.
    I have supported Medicare For All ever since Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren introduced me to the idea in 2016; however, I am now beginning to see some cracks appear as I look deeper into the concept. The cost of Medicare For All to the American tax payers has been estimated at thirty-trillion dollars over the next ten years. While I agree, it's still the best alternative, we must be fully aware that it has to be paid for and it is expensive. Most won't see great savings in their health costs, but it will certainly save more lives and mean that fewer go bankrupt when seriously ill. The plan, discussed at the recent Democratic debate, to have a choice, isn't really workable either as to make Medicare For All work, everyone has to pay into it..Giving Americans the option of keeping their employer-based health insurance and also paying for Medicare For All would help lessen the burden, but that one looks dead before it gets off the ground!
    Will Bernie and Elizabeth succeed in their ambitious plan for Single Payer? We'll find out soon.

    • @Englishwithjennifer
      @Englishwithjennifer  4 роки тому +3

      I appreciate that you listened to the debates. I think it's important to listen to all ideas, no matter what your politics are. All ideas should be considered, but many factors have to be considered. Hopefully, we'll make a decision that many will benefit from, but that won't burden any particular demographic in particular. There's often little black and white in this world. There's a lot of gray. Together we have to navigate through it.

    • @stunninglad1
      @stunninglad1 4 роки тому +1

      @@Englishwithjennifer I agree totally.
      The pharmaceutical industry also needs to lower their costs to make Medicare For All work. There are a lot of areas to look at and much to consider. So bold is the Medicare For All plan that it will have to phased in over four years. Americans aged fifty-five and over qualifying first. So, Obamacare and the insurance companies will still be working in unison for a few years at least.
      Perhaps the insurance companies could fight back with better policies and lower costs. They could try and match Medicare For All. I've not heard about any plans like that. though.

    • @Englishwithjennifer
      @Englishwithjennifer  4 роки тому +1

      Yes, there's the argument that if we keep private insurance companies, they'd have to compete with the fees/taxes of the government program. Do you find health care to be efficient and of good quality in the UK?

    • @stunninglad1
      @stunninglad1 4 роки тому

      @@Englishwithjennifer It's not perfect, but people get life-saving operations free of charge and no-one goes bankrupt due to illness. It's definitely better than America's system. We also have private insurance options here. However, the National Health Service gives Britons the same treatments as the private sector does. I don't really see the point in having private health insurance in Britain.

      Well, I hope the video helps those in the U.S. make sens of the system if they're still learning how it works. And for those outside of it, you get a better understanding of how this aspect of our society works (or doesn't). It's healthy to compare, but it's not easy to say that one system is better than another and should be adopted by another country. Each country has its own set of circumstances. I have two suggestions. First, can you consider attending the annual TESOL convention? It's an international convention, and travel grants are given to teachers, especially those abroad who have never been to TESOL.
      www.tesol.org/convention-2020
      www.tesol.org/enhance-your-career/tesol-awards-honors-grants/convention-travel-grants-scholarships
      You might be too late for 2020, but maybe not.
      They have a job fair, and you could speak to employers there.
      Second, you can contact a specific language school through their website and ask about requirements. You might limit your search to private language schools that have more flexibility with hiring. Good luck!

    I would like to ask you what kind of idiom or saying have you used at 17:22 - "ask too much shoulder for the burden"?
    Great job as always! Keep going Jennifer!

    • @Englishwithjennifer
      @Englishwithjennifer  4 роки тому

      I'm glad you noted that expression! If someone asks you to shoulder the burden, they're asking you to place that responsibility on your shoulders. In other words, you have to accept more of that responsibility. Ideally, everyone has to shoulder the burden of health care within a society, but in some cases, certain people aren't able to handle the same amount of financial responsibility, so others must handle more. Does that make sense?

    Hi Jennifer, this is a very controversial and complicated case that most people don't understand how it works.
    I work at a company that has given me a health care card that includes clinics, operations,laboratories, and a number of medicines with zero payment, but it doesn't cover visiting the dentist and buying glasses.
    Fortunately, I haven't used it yet, but my mother, who is 60 years old, needs some medicines monthly but she doesn't have a health care insurance, so she has to pay each time she buys the medicine and I can't help her out of my card.
    In my opinion,I think everyone has a right to have a health care insurance regardless they work or they don't or at least getting treatment for free in hospitals.
    I know that all candidates in the US are competing with each other to provide the best health care proposal.
    What I don't understand is that since the US is a wealthy country, why don't they accomplish a good health care program for everyone?

    • @Englishwithjennifer
      @Englishwithjennifer  4 роки тому +1

      You raise important questions. There are many ways to look at health care. I don't fully understand what hospital administrators deal with or those who run pharmacies. They see the system differently from me. I can't just complain about the $70 copay for one medicine I get or the vitamins I need for $100 to treat a medical condition. Someone did the research, testing, and manufacturing of those medicines, and they have their perspective, too; they want to be compensated.
      Part of the problem is the cost of living. It varies from state to state and city to city. The average family has many expenses: mortgage, utilities, taxes, children's clothing and activities, car payments, home repairs, groceries, etc. A salary may look high on paper, but after deductions and paying all the bills, there's a lot less left.
      Health care also ties into immigration. Should anyone and everyone benefit from federal or state services if their household didn't contribute through taxes? Do we also have enough funding to care for refugees who are in need of help? What about our own homeless?
      Is everyone who is capable of working and paying taxes employed and earning? Health care also ties into unemployment and homelessness.
      These are the many questions we debate. We must also think of ethics. We want to do what's morally right but not feel like there's nothing left of our paycheck after paying taxes. The candidate we believe to have the best solutions to many of our problems will win the next election.
      Thanks for continuing the discussion.

    The difference between public n private healthcare is tangible. If you need to be heard for your own opinion , you need to go to the private side.Since 2014 , we've been given / offered the choice between all the districts where to get the treatment we look for . Say , you get to know that a good specialist works in a certain area....

    In a capitalism world the problem is about greed and ethic doesn't match with business.

      Well, yes and no. Some argue that capitalism creates competition and competition is good for quality control. If you have to compete, then you want to deliver good quality to attract and keep people. Poor ethics will hurt any organization's business.

      Capitalism creates competition but not for good quality, dog eat dog is the best term to describe capitalism, like Bezoos and Amazon or Google or Microsoft just to name some, they destroy and absorb competition using unethical tactics.
      Don't make me wrong I am not communist or socialist I just see what I see.
