Inside is the same device as the Nova 3, but it is now presented to the world in a brand new design and carries with it some long-awaited improvements. I pre-ordered this before watching this but I am glad the first impressions were positive. I think light, colour and physical page turn buttons tick all the boxes for me. The magnetic pen is a plus. Keep up the good work with your reviews

@ Vinicius Albuquergue - yes, PDFs can be a bit tricky - also the split screen option is useful but - again - screen is a bit small. I'm currently debating whether to get a Note Air 2 for the larger screen - but then I lose the portability of the Nova.
Looking good, been waiting for this size forever, hopefully my Samsung Note Lite stylus works just fine on it as any other Wacom pen

I am a little nervous about this shiny new cover for Nova Air -- do you think this new shiny surface will scratch easily or does it seem durable enough to resist scratches from everyday use? What’s cool is that I ordered a Back to School special of the Boox Note Air and it came with the screen protector pre-installed and the newer version of the pencil with a stronger magnet and same design except it is black. I love what they are doing with the “Air series”.

This looks great. Can you flip the orientation of the unit 180 degrees for us lefties so that we could get the pen magnet on the left, and the cover's page change buttons on the right? I installed my Mobiscribe "taco" cover "upside down" to get the pen holder on the left, and it's great.
I really love the new design of this device. I’ve got the nova 3 and I won’t change it for this one. The fact is that, in my experience with another device, buttons to turn pages just low down the battery quickest than if you don’t use it. And also, the face button (menu button ?) is missing and it’s a bad thing because if you press it a long time on nova 3, it turns the light on and it’s very very useful for me.

Looks good, thank you for showing it to us. Do you think it will work with MDO? Also looking for advice considering the size/usefulness compared to Note Air. Do you feel it work for left handed people? I was really hoping they would offer that new magnetic cover in some other finishes (leather etc...). The chrome look is a no-go for me.
Great review. It is a great pity they didn’t use the same colour for the magnetic case and pencil. I’m not a fan of the speckled back and actually think I would prefer the the black bezel I have on my Nova 3 to the silver grey/white bezel on the Nova Air. Also, I don’t find my Nova 3 too bulky so the charm of the Nova Air’s thinness factor would have to be the decisive factor for me. Plus, no serious hit on battery life!
I will look forward to your full in-depth review. I wonder if the magnetic case may end up having a drawback - it detracts from the ultra thin charm of the device when you’re using it as an e-reader, meaning that you would always want to remove it from the case when using it to read, meaning that you end up carrying around a case as additional protection or both the case and the Nova Air in the sleeve which starts to become a little less than ideal? Food for thought! :)

This wonderful detailed unboxing makes me immediately want to order this awesomely improved Nova 3 but would very concerned about the battery life ? and amount of storage ..32gb ? I really like e-readers with physical page turners and would like this magnetic cover. Does this have Android 10 as my Nova 3 has? i'm using NeoReader on poke 2 now and wonder if i get this Nova air , how can i sync my reading progress on both devices? (stop reading on poke 2 at page 200 - open same book on Nova air and it automatically at page 200 : as on Kindle)

Could you give a little more info in the samsun pen you used in this video. Great work as always.
I heard that the processor is slightly different (upgraded from the note 3 even if the specs are the same) which may explain what you’re feeling regarding the speed. I do wish they kept the larger battery but I don’t think it’s a deal breaker for those looking for a 7.8” device.
I wish it had a G-sensor though which would have the buttons make sense and if I’m not mistaken I also would like the folio to attach to the back (someone said if you fold it over it doesn’t hold on magnetically onto the back cover which seems to be the case from your video too).
Can we force to use Nova series Flip cover for this Nova Air ? Honestly, i dont like flip cover provided for this device.
Looking at their timeline, the first Note was released early in 2018. Note 2 was released in November 2019 and The Note 3 in November 2020. So far they have "only" released two devices this year, compared to 8 devices last year, 6 of which were released towards the end of the year. So there is hope for further releases soon. Me, I don't want to wait any longer now but since I'm looking for a mid size paper feel sketching tablet, I may have to.
Boox has a positive attitude towards customers.
However, the nib of the basic pen is still disappointing.
Is the display surface similar to the Note Air?
Did the buttons work in the pane mode?
What are the dimensions of the actual E-Ink screen display?
Great unboxing and first impressions. Waiting for your review when I heard this. They should have started with 10.3. [1] Is the writing surface different from Note Air? Is it different only because of the pre-applied screen protector? Beneath the surface they (Note Air, Nova Air) all same? [2] I was thinking for some time to buy a note taking device, but worried 7.8” will be too small. May be good for reading but not for constant writing. What is your view? Thanks.
I'm having the same questions. One other thing that preoccupied me was the bad policy for return and refund. I may wait to have it on amazon so i can be more safe.
How about the battrey usage so far?

Hello, with this wonderful report you have made me your fan! Excellent review of the Nova Air. I am very interested in buying that kit you presented. I only have a question, can I use the Lamy, Moko or Likebook P10 pen?
Thank you :) You can use any EMR passive pen, so Lamy yes, Likebook P10 no (and I don't know why you would want to, as it is a terrible pen). Moko I am not familiar with, so I don't know.
It's hard to justify this as an upgrade to the Nova 3 but I might have to do it anyway. I love the lighter color, the chrome details and the magnetic case. I wish the pen had an eraser though!

Thank you for detailed videos even with u boxing. QUESTION #1 When migrating from older boox to newer one, does new boox keep your reading history and individual book reading progress? Q#2 Does boox keep highlighted and changes in the book like scribble embedded within the book it self when we migrate the books to the newer device? Or to PC. Really important as it seems we change frequently their devices now :). This one will make me change my current old poke.
+1 on this question. It would be really useful to take your data from one device to the next as they were.
I'm hoping a bit for a similar update for the 13" device (especially the color of the housing).
Except the shiny think on the bottom. It will scratch very soon I think ....
Edit: i did not watch the Video to the end - there you also wish a max Air. XD. It would be so great (i'm thinking to upgrade from 10" and such a device would make the decision much easier.).

Love these tablets, i hope they reach normal consumer prices in the near future. They're too steep currently, especially when compared to something like the Samsung Tab series :/

How does the weight feel in the hand compared to the Nova 2? My Nova 3 is a tad uncomfortably heavy and I can't make use of the case bulge to hold it when it's open.
I use it without the case and it feels excellent, way more comfortable and agile when compared to the Nova 2/3.
Great detailed overview. I like the buttons in the cover, they can be very handy for turn page etc. I love my Max3, would a Max Air tempt me away? Maybe. Any news of the new Sony, I am keen to see you review that.
Great. Too bad the next page button doesn't seem to create a new page when taking notes. This option would definitetly make touch control unuseful when writing. The way to add page is always a bit boring in a meeting, especially with those small screens. Maybe a software upgrade suggestion.
But the device looks awesome.

Does the Nova Air also have the sun bug that the Nova 2 had and that was also featured in the Likebook Ares - in the 7.8 inch Wacom screen
I was unable to test that, as I had no strong sunny days. On a normal sunny day, I didn't notice it, but then again, it was super sunny, so I'm not sure.
Thinking about buying an Ipad Mini to take notes.
6th gen Mini to be announced on 14-Sep is expected to be bigger and closer to 9 inches.
It will allow same files to be to accessed/developed in Ipad pro as well as in Mini too.
Good notes helps in OCR.
I have a 5th gen Ipad Pro. After much thought to buy an e-ink for notes I purchased it.
Feel a side tablet of smaller size will help. Thought again to buy an e-Ink tablet.
But these e-Ink tablets are stand alone cannot be edited in other platforms.
I found keeping a low light can simulate an e-Ink tablet with much bigger functionality.
Better to invest in same platforms rather than add new one.
E-Ink companies are charging too much for too low functionality.
I like E-Ink but not want to own. Probably if the eInk companies reduces the rate, I may reconsider.
None of the reviewers talk about cross-platform (ios, android, windows) software to access/edit/develop files.
This will help e-Ink tablets sell much more.
You mention about the screen protection and how happy you are that is pre applied and improves writing experience. Question: if reading was your priority, does the screen protector reduce brightness or sharpness vs say a Nova 3 without screen protector?
To a minor degree, but yes, a little bit.
Will your Nova 2 fit in the sleeve for the Air? I contacted Boox support and they told me it might not be a good fit for my Nova 3 Color. I kind of wish I would've waited for this one instead 😅
It does look tight even on the Air. So I doubt the Nova is going to fit at all.
For pdf which one you prefer, boox note or nova ? Is 7.8" enough for pdf or 10.3" is better than it?
The bigger is better for pdfs, i read pdfs most of the times on my ipad pro 10.5 …i bought poke 4 lite ,it is 6” but i read horizontally cuz 10” is very expensive
I was so excited all the way up until you flipped the cover back on the device and I heard the noise it makes when the front and back rub together. It made my teeth hurt and gave me chills. That is an autistic sensory issue on my part, but that would literally be enough to stop me from buying if they were bundled. It seems like it isn't though. I usually just toss my mobiscribe origin in my purse naked. Do you think the boox nove air is durable enough to treat it like that?
I'd honestly just use the sleeve. I like it very much and it doesn't make that sound, plus protects the device better than the cover.

It does not.
Choice of color is very much a matter of taste. For ereaders i prefer black borders as the contrast pulls my eye to the screen making the reading experience much more immersive. White borders pull my eyrs away form the screen and very distracting for me. And with all those magnets in the device and in the sleeve and in the case, people with automatic watches should be a bit worried.
@My Deep Guide - can you please tell the exact screen's dimensions, e.g. width and height? Yes, I know it has 7.8inches diagonal, but I would like to know how that translates to width and height. Thanks!

Does Nova Air come with replacement nibs for its pen?
Mine didn't, however, the included nib is of a harder sort, and I have yet to see signs of wear. It doesn't mean it will never wear out, but it is lasting far longer than the felt tip soft nibs.
I was about to buy this. But my poke 3 brooke down and I have to pay the shipment for the repair. So no more Onyx boox for me.
My Boox Poke 2 won't even start anymore due to the defective battery Onyx put in it. It is unfortunate Onyx has allowed the problem to persist.
Which nib are you using with your samsung pen in this video? I know in your previous video you had chosen the s6 lite pen with stock nibs for Boox devices with an added screen protector and HP nibs for without. Which does this count as and is that still your current recommendation? Thanks for everything you do.
This is with an HP nib. As for Nova Air, wait for the in-depth review, as there could be a different recommendation, surprising one, for that device.

No, it's a regular EMR passive stylus.
Is anyone having issues with the light? cause mine has a white band in the upper part of the reader that is really annoying. I was expecting a more uniform light in a premium device like this one so I'm doubting this is normal.
Definitely not normal. I've had mine for, well, since that video was made, I use it several days per week and I haven't had such issues nor it has developed such an issue. Did it have it immediately from the day 1 or did it develop over time?
@@MyDeepGuide Since Day 1, I was really happy with it till the night came and I turn on the light. The warm light is perfectly uniform but the white light has like a shadow in the upper side of the screen that it's really really anoying. I will probably change it because amazon gives me that facility.
I’m a huge fan of the 7.8” form factor, I’d been debating between the A6x, Nova 3 and RM2 (because I’m design minded but want a smaller device) - this feels like it takes the best of all 3 into one unit - really interested in your comparison to the a6x

@@ervanwirawan811 I have agonised over this decision for too long. In the end I pulled the trigger on the nova air this week. Few deciding factors: 1) Form factor looks great and A6x still looks a little plasticy / dated for me, 2) This first impressions of writing looked like a BIG step forward from the note air, 3) after watching Voja's deep boox guide (found out I could make the boox more of a distraction free device, which was a concern). Time will tell, fingers crossed I picked right
Given the RM2 Connect changes, my hope is that you didn't make the same mistake I did. No matter what RM does now, my next writing tablet will be a Boox. RM could solve a world crisis with their Apple marketing and I'd still film my 6 year old running the RM2 over with his bike until it snaps at end of life.

Great video,thanks! One of my impressions from the b&w nova3 was that the warm light was very red/pink, making for an unnatural look in most mixed environments. It seemed ok outdoors and with 2700k LED light, but anything in between wasn't great. That's the main reason i returned it.
Any thoughts on this one? sounds like it's the same display hardware

No, it's not.
Hope onyx boox has a trade-in program where I can trade my old boox device to a newer model. I want to avoid techie waste as much as possible. It would be very impractical for me to buy this one no matter how much I want to if I still have a workable 2 year old nova pro. Although I'm slightly dying inside seeing how good nova air looks. 😢

Well, one is a 10.3" format and the other a 7.8" format. That's something that puts them into different categories.

With default pens, Remarkable 2, but Nova Air is more precise.

Just got email that my unit shipped.
Although the device looks nice, the smaller battery is a MAJOR concern, especially with ALL of the problems Onyx devices are having with batteries at about 1 year of ownership. My Poke 2 is already dead after a year, and my Nova 2 is starting to show battery problems also (Drops of 10% after 15-20 minutes of reading).
It may be good to do a refresher review of Boox devices after a year of use. Lots of users, myself included, have been seeing atrocious battery problems.
My Nova 2 is now a year and a half old, no battery issues at all. My Note Air is 10 months old, no battery issues what so ever. My Poke 2 is about a year and 4 months old, no battery issues either. What I do know, for a fact, is that users who do experience battery issues, almost always, have did things that you are not supposed to do with batteries, such as, leave plugged in overnight in a speed charger, always charge to 100% and deplete the battery to below 30%, allow the battery to overheat, by charging it and leaving the device exposed to direct sunlight, or performing demanding tasks while charging the device, or using the device while it is plugged in and charging for extended periods of time, or regularity. If these are done on a regular basis, any battery will absolutely have to lose capacity after about a year or so. This is true with laptops, phones, tablets, smart watches, any batteries.
@@MyDeepGuide I didn't do any of those things. Neither did all the people in multiple online forums who have reported similar challenges with Onyx batteries.
Funny thing is I own Samsung devices, Apple devices, Likebook ereaders, Kindle ereaders, etc and never experienced battery problems in the first year of owning the device.
I also own an Onyx Boox Note Air, and have not had challenges with that battery either. Nor have I had any problems with my Onyx Boox Note pro.
The first step in solving a problem is acknowledging the problem, and based on large numbers of owners of these devices, there are clearly battery issues.
It is not a conspiracy or anything people are simply making up. We like our devices, we want to enjoy them, but when a device cannot start due to a dead battery, it is irrational to blame the consumer.
@@MyDeepGuide sadly but there is battery concern on onyx devices. this devices are not cheap. and there are new man.
They are not yet devices that have been used for a long time by large masses like their competitors. Even the examples you gave are not more than 2 years old. There are users who have used Kindle and Kobo devices for more than 5 years. I think the biggest load for the battery is the scenarios that force the battery as you said. And at the beginning of them, unfortunately, comes the android operating system. from long usage scenario, android based eink devices will lose a lot of customers due to battery. The expectation from these devices is not multi-tasking. show the book and/or allow note taking. It would be a problem if the battery of the device I paid as much as the ipad dies after 2 or 3 years. The iPad I'm using has been working for 7 years and it doesn't even get updates, but it still works.
Of course, these devices should not be compared with tablets. But companies should also understand this. They should make long-term products. A strategy to pull out a lot of crops every year doesn't sound very reliable. I have note 3 in my shopping cart, my only concern is that note 4 will be announced in 5 or 6 months, so I'm waiting. 2 years using onyx devices
Was this unit provided by boox?
Yes, it is a review unit loan that I receive for a fixed period of time, and then send onwards to the next person that they have in line to receive the same review unit.
2024 update:The Boox Nova Air is still my absolute favorite. In terms of resolution, responsiveness, writing feel and overall aesthetics and design. And as an e-reader with the Kindle app. I als did buy the Boox Tab Ultra C to try the color and the Supernote A6X because of the attractiveness but I keep going back to my Nova Air.
I wish Boox would re-introduce the Nova Air black and white, its perfect.

Today it is 27-Sep. The way the Full Review is taking long time to come, the review looks like going to be very big one.
It's coming out on Thursday. The delay is because of the shoulder injury and an insane workload I had in September. It's finally clearing up a bit, so yeah, this is getting it's turn as well :)

How well does this one work with Evernote?
Like any other E-Ink device (except Bookeen Notea) poorly, because Evernote is not optimized to work on ePaper devices.

It is not needed. 32GB of internal storage and complete access to any cloud storage service you may use.
@@MyDeepGuide I found 32GB on my Nova 3 to be not enough for me. I read lots of manga and I love to store everything I have. I have no trust for any cloud storage as I prefer to have my data by myself and not being dependent on Internet/cloud provider access. Hence I'm going to continue complaining about the lack of microSD card slot in all portable devices.

I really like my Note Air - If they made a bigger version I'd probably have to upgrade. I wouldn't get smaller though. But I have to admit, that the Note Air form factor is really portable. I'm kinda torn..
I am worried abt the PPI of the Note Air, being 227. Is that noticeable compared to the 300 dpi of Nova devices?
I would add: If you look at this on a 30° monitor, keep in mind that even on fullscreen those devices are already magnified and a lot smaller in reality. ;)
I am referring to the readability of 227 ppi on the Note Air itself and not on a monitor. What are your thoughts?

I am curious as to how well the case actually protects the device. None of the cases on these sorts of devices seem to have particularly good edge protection. I fear a drop would render the magnets meaningless and do a decent amount of damage.
That is my worry as well. I have one on the way....I will not hesitate to look for a more protective case if I feel I need it for sure!
Hi, nobody makes any serious video about the Onyx Boox capabilities to read in a foreign language, could you please consider making one? They are eReaders before anything and built-in dictionary is a key feature especialy for non-native English speakers (well readers ;-) ). I do not want to be stuck in the Kindle world so will NEVER buy one and the best real alternative seems to be Boox, what do you think?
I don't understand why would the reading experience be any different if you get to read a book that's on a different language? Boox supports a huge array of fonts and Unicode standards that should ensure that the majority of content and languages are displayed in their native form, same as English content is.
@@MyDeepGuide Dictionary is the answer. There is no doubt about the display in any language, but what happens when there is a word or an expression, in English let's say, that I don't know? Is there a built-in dictionary? Is it any good? Can I install another good one? Is searching a word easy? Is it possible to search an expression (2 or 3 words)?...

Sturdier how? From want I understand, Nova Air is using stronger metal alloys and smaller flat surfaces, which allows for a stronger structural design.
@@MyDeepGuide My Note Air does not feel sturdy to me. Heavy maybe, but I think the glass screen is dangerously vulnerable. I don’t like to take it out and about. Feels a little fragile.

Since you are here, do you know if you are able to choose the color that you are writing and annotating in and have it appear as that color when the notes are exported? I saw in one video that was an option on one of the Onyx Boox devices but I can’t remember which one I saw that in. I love annotating in color so that would be a great feature-even if you can’t see it on the Nova Air but on exported notes.

I am trying to decide between the Kindle Oasis and the Nova Air.
Also, can you show us how it looks with the cover on and flipped back for one hand use and using the buttons on the Nova Air? I would love to hear your thoughts about if the case makes it too clunky to read on and what you think of reading one handed using the buttons.

Here are my thoughts on the Kindle Oasis vs Nova Air based on reading but I would love to see a video comparison.
I like that the kindle has physical buttons and is connected to the Amazon/kindle ecosystem (I only read Kindle books) but I don’t like that it doesn’t have speakers for listening to audio books without headphones and that you cannot annotate in color.
I like that the Nova air has a stylus, has speakers, might be able to annotate in color (which may be visible on exported notes), can use different reading apps, and can read multiple book formats.
The Nova Air and Kindle Oasis are in the same price range but I’m having trouble deciding-though I am leaning towards the Nova Air.
