  • Here is my experience with compromise pads. In general compromising sucks. I recommend the stop tech pads and I even use them in my "Tuning after track day" series with the s2000 CR.

I was ROFL myself when he said "There's a video of me on youtube, going straight off the track..."

I'm surprised to hear the HP+ didn't work for you, i've only used HP+ on my sedan Si which weights a lot more than an S.
I was using brake ducts and was running 225/45 17 square so maybe this two had a lot to do with the fade..
I recommend the HP+ to all beginners, but can't beat the price difference from the stop techs.

+Sean Neal The HP+ does work fine. Their performance just fell off quickly when I started getting faster and I got them too hot. I switched to a race pad at that point. I was running a 255 square hankook RS3 set up.

+ZentRose It must have been I didn't get fast enough to get to that point haha! HP+ saved me a lot of cash, I used them for street driving too. Very dusty and noise came and went as it pleased, I would used them again.

+Sean Neal Yeah that's not a bad decision. It's a good brake pad for the money. They bite much better than the stoptechs. I just think that some people might be unhappy with the noise if they are looking for a crossover pad.

+ZentRose let us know how you like those pmu club racers! I keep hearing they don't squeal that bad on the street, if you could maybe take a quick vid of you driving on the streets with them? Thanks!

Great review dude. I have ST supplied pads with my new ST BBK. The pads work but as you say - crappy bite and you have to stand on them. I'm not taking these to the track! I have CL RC5+ on my other car which I'm happy with but am considering trying another brand with my new ST kit. What track pads are you running? Other suggestions?

I use pmu club racer on the s2000 and an endurance compound (carbotech rp2) on my corvette.

It's been a while since this video was updated. I too use StopTech street performance for my dual duty pad, but since these are almost time to replace I'm looking for other options. I've been seeing Hawk Street/Race pads. After few readings this is DTC-30 with beveled edge to reduce noise. Have you had experience with this pad? Keep coming up with great videos! Thanks.

    how are ebc pads?

Which pad would you recommend if one is doing 1 or 2 track days a year, and about 4,000 miles of street driving (some including mountain spirited). Assuming the user wants to avoid having to swap pads knowing he is tracking only 2x a year.

+sungod1976 I like the stoptechs because my girlfriend won't complain about them (a requirement to me for a true crossover pad). What I don't like about the stop tech was that they required quite a bit of pedal pressure.
I got better lap times with the hp+ but they are pretty noisy. Are you timing your laps or just going for fun?

    • @sungod1976
      @sungod1976 8 років тому

ZentRose Not timing laps yet--right now, just for fun and learing driving/car dynamics. I think I will try the stoptechs as I need to do my front pads soon, and rather not swap pads for 1 or 2 track days a year. My rear OEM pads still have a lot of life left. Thanks for the feedback

Hey zent, how would you compare the bite and performance of the stoptech pads vs the oem s2k pads? I attend at most 2 hpde a year but will autox a full season, I was set on the hc800 but with the stoptech being so cheap I might go that route instead.

So after I've been watching your videos and for some time. I was fortunate enough to get an AP2 of my own. Thank God, but anyhow the rear brakes on the car are like pretty much gone. What do you think I should go with the Stoptech or oem rear pads. Im sure you will ask no I do not track the car. BTW: I have 2 videos of the ap2 if you wanna check it out on my page I would be honored. Thanks

+greddy376 I think oem is a good choice. I'll check out your videos. Thanks!

I couldn't agree more. I've had all 3 of these pads. StopTech on my G35 and HP+ and HC800 on my MSM Miata. I never took the G35 on the track, so I can't speak for fade, but I would never rely on them for a 20 minute (8 lap) session at MidOhio.
I had the HC800 on my MSM, braking from 120mph down to 70 on the back straight with ultimate confidence and zero fade. Switched to HP+ since I needed a new pair that were in-stock within the US. Immediately felt a lack of confidence and ultimately experienced a bit of fade after 7-8 laps. Switched back to the HC800 and right back to confidence with zero fade. Pedal feel is fantastic. (They do dust like crazy, but that's a minor trade off)
