Just an observation. In French what he made would be a Sabot de moteur - a shoe. It looks more like one of those old fashioned medical shoes you used to see. Maybe it's just a truss for a bike with a hernia. Anyone else see the resemblance?

It is actually an ACU regulation that all race bikes must have a solid bellypan and must be able to contain more than 50% of the volume of all liquids in the engine :) they used to have removable bungs for wet races but that rule was superseded.
I think the only thing that’s an exception to this is classic bikes of a certain era

Keep up the great videos matt, I was a born again biker after a hiatus from my early 20's (family life) and returned with an interest in custom bikes. I remember watching Delboy thinking his stuff was great, it wasn't until I saw a video of yours that pointed out how shitty the rest of the bike was outside of what he wanted you to focus on. I've been burned in the past by people who make their bikes "custom" (Delboy wannabe) and its the new owner who has to fix all the shit they cause. I feel like I learn something from each of your videos so keep up the shite work Del because Matt is there to point out the mistakes and give us all an education. Hope you have a great 2023

I think I've sussed the videos. Del's including dramatic scenes as a way of making the (shoddy at best) tasks look good. We're talking noise, flames, sparks and the inclusion of many tools.
Must say I'm stunned at that bellypan, or should I call it a strapon. It reminds me of a strapon dildo.
That steel from online too. As you say, mega expensive and a desperate way to buy in materials. There are much cheaper routes to get the stuff. (for anyone curious, go to Wickes and check the prices for their metal stock)
The welding. Tacking is a basic skill and he can't grasp the idea/thinking behind it. I'm certain he reads up on it but nothing stays in his head - I see so many basic metalworking skills not used. Filing, clamping, correct posture etc.
Anyhoo, I've been waiting for you covering this one and it was worth the wait. 'Stares at you back'

Road Racing Bikes have to have an enclosed belly pan, without drain holes, otherwise it will fail scrutineering. If a race bike engine shits itself the belly pan is expected to contain the oil and prevent it ending up all over the track.
