BIG BIG BIG BIG THANX FOR SHARING IT !!! I saw it a long time ago in our Polish television, then I searched for it few times, but never found it. Untill now. It is a pity that the film is not in better quality, but it is better than nothing.
that was completely mad. Not understanding french or russian, and having only the bare synopsis to guide me, I was still captivated. Natalie Dessay was the only singer I recognized, but the others were amazing as well. gotta see this again
I kind of understand French [trying to learn, so I figured I'd watch something in French] and it took me until the end forever to realize they were singing in Russian lmao. I was like "why.... does this not sound like the subtitles?"
Hear hear! I surfed into a PBS or A&E broadcast of this about 5 years ago...I couldn't believe what I was seeing...(that crazy ringmaster in purple at ≈ 29:00?? Goosing himself? What the holy hell? LOL!) It had receded into a fever dream in my memory! Seriously I can't take my eyes OR EARS off this!
I think the producer are trying to combine technology and the arts, probably to show the advancement of technology as according to the time the film is made. Although it looks bizzarre, but the CGI effect is great.
A beautiful opera with some hints at orientalism which I saw at a church near St. Paul's Cathedral in London many years ago. I hope it would appeal to children as well in this modern presentation.
I remember watching this when I was maybe around 7 or 8, and there are parts of the visual presentation I definitely can recall. My dad and I used to listen to the nightingale and this video left quite the impression on me
@@Yelobirb Same, i watch it when i was young, around at night (I think it is when the channel switch from Okto, a kids channel in Singapore to Okto Arts sth)and recall certain visual images which eventually i write it in my story base on these bits and pieces of images. It is vivid. (i remember the black hands, the bad guy coming, the latern, the person in the glass, the young prince, the government and the lady with the fans aside)
The performance itself is great, and there are parts of the presentation that I also really admire, but the CGI does get to be too much often times. It looks so poorly crafted compared to this exquisite music, which is some of Stravinsky's finest from his early period. Also, the added sound effects are oftentimes annoying and detract from the music. That being said, it is still very enjoyable to see this take on the opera, and to listen to this wonderful music so well performed.
This interesting realisation of Stravinsky's work is a great example of the wonderful adage: Just because we CAN doesn't mean we SHOULD. The CGI was overbearing and definitely too much. The performances however are true virtuosic masterworks, that should be studied as true opera style.
One of the most surreal and magical music visualizations I have ever seen.

My sister and me have been looking for this for a long time
Great orchestral work and Natalie Dessay, Brilliant.
All that CGI was totally bizarre. Just why.
But honestly, I wonder what Stravinsky would have felt about this kind of surrealism

sublime!!
The opening sounded so much like 'Nuages' from Debussy's 'Nocturnes'!

should you start the DVD, you can chose with or without 1) sound effects 2) subtitles 3) country/language
Magnifique
Great Natalie Dessay!
Réalisation Christian Chaudet - Prod. Agat Films/Arte / Mikros Image 2004
Now you understand why you should have taken French in high school!
Where can I find only the music recorded, without the video sound effects?
buy the DVD!!
I like Dessay but her russian too bed (like my english)))

Reizüberflutend. Überstilisiert. (Bilder)
Music is marvelous, but the video is kitsch, excessive. Sorry
Un film agaçant et de très mauvais goût. Le pauvre Stravinsky....
What the fuck is this
