  • In this college football livestream, Couz will share some of the details on the new House settlement that was just submitted by the NCAA and the Power 4 conferences. He will also give his thoughts on those details. He will also preview the upcoming fall camp for WVU football. He will take a look at the depth chart, discuss key position battles, and etc.
In an effort to settle the House vs. NCAA case that will cost college athletic departments a lot of money, the NCAA and power 4 leagues (B1G, SEC, Big 12 & ACC) have reportedly agreed with the plaintiffs on a settlement that will be less impactful. It will impact NIL and collectives, roster limits, scholarship, limits and will involve direct payments to student athletes. While the settlement will likely be less impactful, it could still be very damaging to many athletic departments and sports programs, especially at smaller or mid-tier schools. Couz talks about all of this.
As the West Virginia Mountaineer football team gets ready to start Fall camp on July 31, WVU fans are anxious for the 2024 season. There are several storylines to watch for and several key position battles that fans need to watch as camp progresses. Couz will talk about all of this as well in this livestream. #collegefootball #wvufootball #wvufootball

If players are going to be paid, they need to be signed to a contract, that 1) requires loyalty- if we pay you, you can't enter portal without approval of coach and AD; and 2) no opting out of bowl games--you are an employee and must show up for your shift. 3) if you want to enter the portal or opt out of a game you have to pay back a portion of your revenue or all of your scholarship. You want to be a pro, put on your big boy pants, no work, no pay.

I don’t disagree, but they technically aren’t employees yet.

@CouzsCornerSports At that age, I was a medic in a rifle platoon. I can imagine saying, "I'm going to opt out of this last mission, sir. I wouldn't want an injury to effect my career after my service here."
Remember Will Grier? He opted out of his bowl game, which seemed "meaningless" to him, to protect his NFL career(although he played in a "meaningful" Senior Bowl game to enhance his draft status). He's been in the NFL ever since(7-8years?). I don't think he's ever played a complete game in all that time, shuffling from Charlotte, to N.Y., to Dallas, to N.E., to S.D. He could have been remembered for standing alongside his teammates, leading his Alma Mater to a memorable victory. Now, he won't be remembered at all, except someone who let down his team mates and his loyal fans. I guess you don't learn concepts like loyalty, and team when those dollar signs are blocking your view. Nice legacy.

Once they become true “employees” they will go to a collective bargaining contract model instead of this revenue sharing model that the Universities are trying to use here. Two completely different models.

Thank You for pointing this and explaining the new 'NIL' rules!!! Haven't seen anyone actually explaining it yet. One part of this settlement that I am seeing is the F.C.S. schools are very upset about it.

Only 3 trips by plane is fantastic. Hollis can hit, his tackling will be felt. Arizona got some really good backs in the portal. If you’re bored look at the talent that was on Samu’s HS team in Iowa, Kaydn Proctor and several other D1 players, Desmoines is starting to be a hot bed for HS talent.

I agree totally about the receiving corps Couz! Love Huddy, and Traylon Ray, Kole Taylor, and now we've got Jaden Bray. Agree also that Rodney Gallagher will settle in this year.

I wish they would establish a true cap an athlete can get across the board. I 100% agree that the players deserve a piece of the pie because they are what we are paying to watch, but to me, at the end of the day, they are "Student Athletes", the student description is first for a reason.
The players should get paid, but the majority of the money should go to institutions to help with facilities and all the other aspects a campus could improve on to give their students an overall better experience. A true player cap would also help make the P4 more competitive across the board. You wouldn't have all the best players going to the richest institutions. They would spread out across the P4 and even the playing fields for everyone. More overall competitive balance is the best long-term for all collegiate athletics.

I also wonder if with the new roster limit if they might implement a practice squad for football teams like how the NFL has practice squads. Also I wonder if maybe they might do like the NFL where the rosters can be changed on a weekly basis to allow for substitution for players that are injured, you could elevate a player from the practice squad when a player becomes injured. That might be one way that walk ons could still be utilized. But if that wouldn’t happen the G5 and FCS level teams will have more inventory to pick from.

FYI- Avery Johnson is doing commercials for a Kansas car dealership and gets a free lease on a vehicle. That one likely remains a legit NIL deal in the future.

One thing that Wren talked about with 3 guys was the scholarship piece and how it was over 10% of the budget. Outside of football and basketball most sports can't afford to pay the scholarships of the athletes on the team even if the coach worked for free. I don't see how they are ever going to afford to pay for more scholarships and distribute 22 million+ each year without trimming expenses somewhere.

I don't think they should have Started the NIL deal .Bc I feel its going to be very expensive in the long run for any school.

Wasn't the lawsuit that allowed Battle to play this year all about his NIL being limited by him having to sit out? Even though players can get paid by the university, many could make much more in NIL. Wouldn't you expect more lawsuits like this if athletes earning potential is limited by this?

Now we know why FSU and Clemson timing of trying to get outta the ACC, if schools are gonna be forced to psy out basically more than double their earnings from the conference they're gonna really fall way behind SEC and B1G

I think that if there is going to be revenue sharing now, I think scholarships should be counted as part of the student athlete’s revenue.

The rich will get Richie. National Championships will string to a few schools of about 10 schools within 5 years. Problem is there are only so many players can play at a time. Say 20 schools max have all the money then 20 times 25 players will not be enough players for a NFL draft every year. All these new improvements will go by the way side.

I think the pay limit is way too low. The rumors for what is being paid to the current lineup for the Ohio State football team and U of Oregon are probably even low. Social media is full of stories of players with high end sports cars and all kinds of stuff. One coach during the Big 10 media day alluded to how some program was able to buy out one of his players for double the amount they were being paid at his school. Plus the cap raises seem to be low. I would rather it stay as it is rather than go back to the days where it’s all under the table and in secret.

With the conference Footprints getting way out of line I mean the Big Ten right now goes from coast to coast Stanford is in the ACC I don't know how you can cash your real from the Pacific all the way to the Atlantic but okay there needs to be just a group share for all the schools in the same division and then we can go back to a regular footprint the big a the the Big Ten the packs for 10 the ACC the Big East the Southeastern Conference everybody gets paid the same after what you get paid if you want to put more in it from your boosters than that that's up to you but I'm so tired these things go acting like they want it all and you know the small schools is what helped them get to where they were at now they want to cut bait on them that's b******* for stuff for the students infrastructure at the University's I mean this whole idea paying students the education was supposed to be the payback the lifetime friends in the camaraderie of the university and and your friends around you just give them lifetime insurance for healthcare for the for their bodies because of the damages that are being done

  • @scottdevaney3928
    @scottdevaney3928 2 місяці тому

You know what no no they don't deserve to be paid living room lifetime insurance for medical conditions from playing that's fine all you have to do is watch TV when colleges starting up again and have to hear all these horror stories about people and their school debt that they're paying off of free 10-15 years after they graduate the whole deal was supposed to be your degree was the payback life-changing education Step Up in life to be able to move your family forward how did getting a degree become so worthless maybe if they paid more attention in school they would understand finances and not be broke after 10 years out of being out of the league
