My addition to mounting the photo, use a cardboard or piece of PVC pipe to roll up adhesive backing sort of like a rolling pin. This way the print can lay out nearly flat as you use the braver to press the photo into the gatorboard, and at the same time roll up the backing paper. PVC probably best best easier to keep clean. Just a thought. Great video none the less. I learned an immense amount of info , well done Sir.
You are an excellent teacher. Every step you explained quite well. I have some small digital drawings I did and recently printed a few. I am going to use those for practice then move up to larger images. Thank you
Great video for a newbie at art mounting and framing. . Your instructions are most helpful and so clearly given. Anxious now to give it a try. Best wishes !
This looks like a great way to simply display prints avoiding matting and glass. I would like to try this. Will you be making a video on how to apply the varnish?
Nice job but still appears a bit lumpy, maybe because of the black printing. Hopefully the client is okay with your signature on the front of the image. Thanks for the video.
I found your video to be extremely useful, I'm surprised that you don't use glass or plexiglass. When I first learned about Moab's Desert Spray I wasn't convinced it would replace glass/plexiglass.
When not using glass, how do you deal with gloss differential when printing with ink jet? For me, anything with pure white is an issue for me and my Epson 3880. I have tried different papers, but still have issues. Thanks and nice video.
Tony, do you still use this mounting technique? Has it proven itself over the years, or has it shown itself to be too troublesome? Have you modified and/or improved this technique since this video? I'd like to attempt this myself - I love the results. Thanks!
yep. I actually had a large vacuum press for years, but in the end, this is still the best way for those who don't have the room for a giant vacuum press.
Hello Tony and thanks for the Video... wondering if you might have a link to where I can get the adhesive and the boards you used in the video? thanks for your time
The boards are just gatorboard, should be available at most art supply stores. The adheisve is a little harder to find. You'll have to Google around a bit to find it.
Great and informative well spoken content .... kinda got a headache from the videographer jumping around and going in and out of focus the whole time tho
Sorry, not sure where to find it these days. I have a few rolls that have lasted me a while. The last time I purchased was from our local plexiglass supplier. Weird right? But they happened to be a dealer for it. Maybe try your local plexiglass dealer? Try searching for wholesale plastics or foamcore distributors.
Your print & mounting are much better than the frame. We normally charge clients a $2,500.00 minimum for project of that size. What did you charge for this client, if you don't mind sharing?
How archival is the gatorboard? Is it acid-free? What are your thoughts on using gatorboard that already has adhesive on it? If I wanted to float mount this without the frame would it warp? Thanks for the great video.
@@tonyroslund I've bought dozens of different ones over the years, for signing photos. Most of them bead up if I use them on varnished prints though. I was hoping you'd have a brand to recommend.
Linda Krakow Eaman I’ll have to look at the brand when COVID quarantine is over and I’m back in the studio. If I recall, I actually signed them prior to spraying. But I can’t remember now.
Special tools, materials and coating to prevent contaminating the print. Special expertise necessary for proper handling of the print in the mounting process. Well, I'll save myself stress and probable misery when there's a misstep and pay a pro for this type job. This is definitely NOT for a beginner or first-time effort. If you believe differently, I wish you all the best.
I never use glass for anything over 11x-14. In fact, if you go into most museums don’t use glass over artwork either. They just tell you not to touch! Haha.

Great tutorial. You are an excellent speaker and i love that you teach the finite details of the process.
Thank you! Lots of great info and a very clear tutorial on mounting a print.
You sir are a master framer. Great video 👌
That was SO helpful. You have been exceedingly generous with your knowledge and I thank you.
Wow. So no plexi or glass used within the frame?! That’s pretty fresh. Thank you for you time and knowledge. Much appreciated.
Thank you for this excellent information, helpful to me.
Man, I just love that shot.
I thank you so much for your advice plus wonderful workmanship.
Nice work man! That was really helpful -- thanks.
Very helpful. This is one thing I haven't tried yet. Thanks for the knowledge!
7:03 Someone spits on one of my prints, they forsure getting punched in the face lol!! Great video man!!

"If someone happens to spit on it" Everyone's a critic, I guess.
or drool on it
Excellent information. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks Tony. You're the man
Very helpful tutorial!! Thank you!
Good, practical tips. Thanks Tony!
Nice job but still appears a bit lumpy, maybe because of the black printing. Hopefully the client is okay with your signature on the front of the image. Thanks for the video.
Thank you that was really helpful info. And you look like Michael Hutchence. Bonus!!
So much great information. Thank you!
Very clear and useful, well done.
Awesome job!

It's a pretty solid alternative.
Thanx so much for this. some really good advise that I will take.
👍 nice video..very informative
oh my god! I love your videos. keep up the good work and thank you for it
+Sorin Florea just one thing, You may want to ad links to the products you are using in the description.
nice work man!
I'm always amazed that you can do this for yourself. Unfortunately I live in Vancouver, Canada where nothing used here is available.
Shop on line have it shipped there
I know import/duties into CA can be hefty. Perhaps that's the hesitation?

Thanks for sharing this!
Hey, Tony, just wondering why no glass was used? Great video!
same question!! why?
Glass takes away detail from the print
@@myfriendmoses That´s way you laminate the picture ! Then you can clean the image when it´s dusty without scratch it.
Tony, love using gator board but need your recommendation for best method of trimming edges, thanks!
I use a foam core cutter by Logan.
Thank You
Excellent advice
What's up with the camera guy? Keeping it still isn't that difficult
@@tonyroslund Its good, just made it look like an action film, thanks for the video!
@@tonyroslund it didn't shake that much.
shush he's on a budget a la starving artist lol j/k
thank you!

Tony, great video, however, I'm an old dude and my stupid stupid question is what is the black thick material, sorry I am old!!!!
Gatorboard, like foamcore, but more durable.

That looks so good
Could you possibly hold the camera in place and with the topic in frame and focus?!
Sure. Let me reshoot it.
i'm sorry for being so nosey..... but can you tell me what kind of board you used to mount the art?
thank you for the clear tips
Great and informative well spoken content .... kinda got a headache from the videographer jumping around and going in and out of focus the whole time tho
Glad you enjoyed it!
I cannot buy moab desert varnish spray in the uk. Is there anything similar/generic you would recommend?
Does the "Protective Coating" really take the place of "Glass". Also, does it "Reflect", like Glass does? Good Vid, thanks.
could not find that double sided adhesive film that wide. :-) any idea where to get it?

Interesting...do you use glass/plexiglass or mats? Why or why not?
Your print & mounting are much better than the frame.
We normally charge clients a $2,500.00 minimum for project of that size.
What did you charge for this client, if you don't mind sharing?
So, how much for this job, this print in a frame?
Dont ask this artist any more about money he charges. None of your business.
$2,500.00?? Are you on drugs?
@@dennett73mk sounds like you don't know how to market yourself.
You're a thief!
can you make a list of equipment that you used for everything
Done! Kit.co/tonyroslund
The adhesive is listed in the description.
which frame u have used ..what that black frame called??
thank you quite interesting.
Gudy 831 and of course Gudy 832 is exceptionel
I could not understand the brand name of the adhesive roll and he didn’t show a photo of the brand
, can anyone post the name of the brand for me?
It should be in the description
Excellent demonstration and information. Might be better to do another video on a tripod. This one made me a bit seasick.
Sorry about that

I second this question
Why is your camera ALL OVER THE PLACE????
Just to drive you crazy.
where are you located? I just purchased some photography prints (11X14) and id love to get them framed and mounted... Im in Los Angeles
Understood. Thanks for the timely rsponse....
How did you print that out?
Epson 7900
This looks expensive to start out, having to buy all these materials. T__T
It's a little bit of an investment up front, but once you have the stuff, you can bang down a ton of prints.
What kind of pen are you using to sign, that doesn't bead up on the varnish?
It’s a pen made for writing on photographs. You can find them at most craft stores.

somebody has to bitch, thanks for the hard work and content

Very informative comment but the troll is not necessary and distracting.
Outstanding ☺️😂
Pls what's the name of the board used?
Gator board!
Won't the print expand and contract?
I’m surprised you don’t protect the print with plexi or museum glass?.

Thanks I’ll give it a try
the spray replaces the glass?
Yep.
Tony, please, I'd like to buy the adhesive roll, what is the exact model/make ? Thanks,
@ 0:58 he says what sounds like 'Nisshin '
Zvery profestional
👍
His S's sound like a basketball game
I have prints that have been rolled up in tubes for a long time. They aren’t as easy to handle.
No I imagine they aren’t. You’ll likely want to lay them flat for a few days, perhaps with some weight on them prior to attempting to mount them.
Great info....(use a tripod)
exactly what not to do ! The best way to have bubbles...
Never had a bubble with the right adhesive. Kinda like I demonstrated in the video!
is it my imagination or is he a reincarnation of Fred MacMurray??
Not able to hold the camera still? 🙄🤢
nervous cameraman
Evidently too many RedBulls that day.
I really think you should find another videographer.
donnnn video the guy please - just the work
oh - keep the camera steady

Es absolutamente estúpida la manera de mover la cámara en este vídeo. Horrible.
Great vid Tony, at which stage do you apply the "Desert Varnish"
