  • On the 25th of October 1960 two barges, transporting oil and petrol along the river severn lost control in thick fog and collided with the Severn Railway Bridge near Sharpness. Five men died in the tragedy and just three men were rescued. The river was an essential route for fuel deliveries from Avonmouth and 60 years on, our Gloucestershire reporter, Steve Knibbs, has been speaking to two people who vividly remember the crash...
After the report you can watch the full interview with historian Chris Witts who was working on a barge on the river on the night of the crash.
