Tuba Skinny is a traditional jazz street band based in New Orleans, Louisiana. The band's instrumentation includes cornet, clarinet, trombone, tuba, tenor banjo, guitar, frottoir, and vocals. The ensemble draws its inspiration from the early jazz, ragtime, and blues music of the 1920s and 1930s. The group began as an itinerant busking band and has performed around the world, including at music festivals in Mexico, Sweden, Australia,Italy, France,Switzerland, and Spain.
For over a decade, Tuba Skinny "has grown steadily in popularity, releasing [ten] albums, frequently touring, and attracting high-profile fans from R. Crumb to Amanda Palmer and Neil Gaiman. They've garnered fans from all over the world-young and old, neophytes and niche-enthusiasts. Their albums have garnered multiple awards, and they have been hailed by Offbeat magazine, The Syncopated Times, and other publications as one of the best traditional early jazz bands performing today.
The band is popular on UA-cam with "more than 500 videos, many with 100,000-plus views, in a variety of languages. However, the ensemble does not have an official UA-cam page, and nearly all of the recorded footage is fan-made. The band's fan base has been described as possessing a "lighthearted, fun, flapper vibe," a reflection of the Jazz Age time period evoked by their music.Despite the band's global fame and frequent performances in nightclubs and at jazz festivals, they have continued to perform on the streets of New Orleans and other cities in order to maintain their intimate connection with audiences.

I like very much the group. I am brasilian.
This group is one of a kind: As good and fantastic as they are, they never abandoned their fundamental character: they are and persist in being a true street band! The very best of them all, with a stable composition, Shaye being a great gluing factor. Who doesn't love these fine musicians?... Oh, and here is one of their strengths (besides their competence and musical knowledge) : THEY LOVE WHAT THEY DO! So do I, so do I 😍

The later recordings are good, but this earlier one with the Tuba is fantastic. I really prefer the Tuba.

This Band sounded best when they sang and played without mikes on Bourbon Street and other locations. Glad to see they still sound just as great (without mikes) many years later. And Erika's cheerful and enthusiastic singing (as ever) is the icing on the cake. Love you guys!

Great lively TS performance. Robin Rapuzzi is fantastic! Great to see Erica with the group--she has been missing a few times in the past few years. This is one of my favorite Tuba Skinny videos. It's just fun.

Thank you for sharing, this is superb. All of the best attributes are here, energy, creativity, musicianship and originality. I just wish I had known about them when they formed - in 2009. Brilliant band. May they never change what they do. I hope to encounter them busking somewhere in Italy in 2020.
Given the Covid situation in Italy (and Lousiana), I hope they are holed up somewhere waiting for a vaccine before they venture out that far.

But as a technophobe I'd appreciate an update on whether this problem has maybe been sorted, this video is still on UA-cam (obviously), and Audio Library is sending out live stream stuff, apparently officially. I love this group...this an early video of them. I'm laughing because Todd on Tuba , his hair standing up, looks like Stan Laurel of the comedy team Laurel and Hardy here. whoever the guitar player is, he's excellent. Robin must have a sugar high going lol. Even back then they were at the top of their game. A small group sounding like dynamite over other larger noisy groups. Shaye Cohn is brilliant on the cornet, and Erika Lewis jazz stylings with her voice is superb. the whole group intuitively knows what they are doing tenfold.

Many thanks for giving us this. Great to see how good they were, even shortly after they formed. I wonder why you use the photo of Elena Dorn with her violin as the thumbnail, however? Much though I love her playing, she has no connection to the band or music in this video.

How old is this recording? Everyone still looks so young.
In an earlier comment, someone said it was made 10 years ago. Judging by the band's members and what they look like today, that seems like either a fact or a good guess.
Didn't realize that this was older (2011). Should have looked closer!!
