    Examples of open ended questions
    How are you feeling?
    What do you know about stroke ?
    Tell me about your pain

    What do you think might be causing your pain?
    Can you come next week on Tuesday for your follow-up?
    Closed ended questions
    Where is the pain?
    Do you have any pain at the moment?
    You seem a little uncomfortable about reducing your medication?Isthat right?
    Probes /probing questions
    To gain more information to facilitate patients response.
    1-how do you feel about that?
    2-is there anything that I left out?
    3-would you like to add anything to that
    4- is there anything that allivates your pain ?
    5-how long have you had these problems ?
    Caution- do not use
    1. multiple/compound questions
    Example
    How do you feel this morning? Did you get enough sleep last night? and enough to eat for breakfast?
    2. leading questions - lead the patients towards a particular answer.
    Example
    You are not eating well, are you?
    Clarifying vague statements = Clarifying information that is unclear.
    Example
    Sorry I missed what you said that about nervousness……. Could you repeat that please
    Summarizing information (to encourage connection and invite further information)
