Power Steering Hoses Replacement | Jeep Cherokee XJ
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 сер 2024
- This repair is overdue, I’ve been topping off the fluid for longer than I’m willing to admit! The parts are inexpensive, so let’s replace the power steering hoses on this 2000 Jeep Cherokee XJ.
I remove the air cleaner box to give me better access to the bottom of the power steering lines. I chose not to remove the bottom radiator hose which I had to patiently work around, but it’s doable. Stubby wrenches might help but I don't have them (added to the wish list!). I replace both hoses even though only the high pressure line was leaking. These parts are very inexpensive so there is no better time than now to replace both!
Make sure the o-rings from the old hoses come out and that when you install the new hose ends (the threaded ones) that the supplied new o-rings are in place.

found this leak earlier this week and gonna get a jump on it tomorrow. Thanks so much for being so informative.
Really helpful to know which tools will be needed! Thank you.
Glad it was helpful.
Great vid - Thank you!
Thanks man, I needed a little guide on how to remove and reinstall the hose
Glad it was helpful. In general trying to share enough info on tools needed and level of effort to give someone an idea on what it will take to tackle.
Appreciate the video, definitely helpful
Learn from my mistakes 😂
Good video btw brother thxs
Thank you
Awesome!
Hope you didn’t break that bolt like I did getting the air filter box out of the way!
Is 18 mm the same as 5/8?
Great video. I had multiple pinholes in my high pressure line and when I went to install the new one I stripped the box so I got to learn how to install a steering box 😁🤦🏻
Thanks for the tips and tricks, hopefully there won’t be any PSF geysers this time.
Sorry to hear about your steering box, I hope you’ve got it all handled and back on the road!
Thanks!! I feel more prepared now to replace my PS pump and both lines. I'm curious what you used to clean and remove all the grime from the frame under the air box?
Thanks Jeff. I used Simple Green and those blue heavier shop paper towels. I buy the Simple Green concentrated and can mix it up as needed, in this case it was a stronger batch that I’d spray on and let soak, but it still took a few applications per area. Good luck tackling this project, it’ll be nice to reset the clock on it when you are done!
I normallt use a whole can of brake clean which will normally blast the crud off
You made me laugh at snap off
Will that same high power work in a ‘92? I just purchased the return but figure I should replace both at the same time.
Nate, I’m not sure, you should be able to check compatibility on Amazon for your model/year. I would definitely replace both while you are in there, these are inexpensive parts, reset the clock on both while you are at it. Good luck!
@@MattsGarageMiscDIY I believe I found it, will get here Saturday. Thanks! You too. Also have to replace the fuel sending unit and needs the whole front 13 piece replacement, bushings are shot.
Did you thread the pressure hose all the way down
Threaded until snug/tight, but doesn’t need to be over-tightened, just make sure you have the new o-rings in place and old o-ring is not stuck in the port on either end. Run the car, move steering from lock-to-lock to pump out any air and check for leaks. Good luck.
Decent video but ya skipped the hardest part in the video.
