What a treat to hear the voice of Graham Walker. It's like he's still here with us. 🙋

What a brilliant film of a golden age of motorcycle racing. It is great to see Caldwell, Brands and of course the TT Mountain course from 60 years ago. It offers some excellent advice to all riders which still stands true for todays young riders. I thoroughly enjoyed this and will share it with my motorcycle mates.
    Kind regards Paul

I saw this film in 1972 while senior at the American high school at RAF Upper Heyford. I often wondered if I would ever run across it again. Thank you You Tube!

Exceptional, thank you for sharing this wonderful glimpse back into a period just before I started to ride. Wonderful memories of the most incredible time to have been born and to ave been truly alive. Thank you from an old Aussie born just as this was all being filmed who is grateful for what he has lived through.

Just a wonderful periscope into the way things were. Great riding and truly unbelievable onboard footage for the time period. I could feel the vulnerability and danger from here, and I'm a rider from way back. Good to Surtees before he became an F1 champ. Very well done. Thanks.

Brilliant! Lovely to see Cadwell Park featured, with the 1950s layout too 👍

    What a great film!
Cadwell appears at around 9 mins as the "nursery slope" for would-be bike racers.
How nostalgic! I'm a Lincolnshire lad and was a friend of TT racer Bob Rowbottom from Scunthorpe, so I know Cadwell very well and that the gentleman with the start/finish flag at Cadwell ca. 9:12 was Mr. Disney.
After studying German I moved to the Stuttgart area in my 30s and worked in Leonberg writing about diesel engines.
Leonberg is the nearest place to the Solitude race course which is featured, but by the mid 80s the Rennstrecke was back as normal roads and my route home if the Autobahn was blocked.
In a bit of comedown the start-finish straight is part of the local learner driver tuition area (Verkehrsübungsplatz).
But the picturesque Bosch race controller tower is still there. The Bosch HQ at Stuttgart-Schillerhöhe is just down the road.

Great colour footage..! The trees at Oulton make you wince...

  • @chrisparti

I was amazed how much Oulton Park has changed in terms of track width and surface, the general layout seems the same though. Also interesting to see the inevitable reduction in lap times due to machinery and tyres (and the state of the track).

I loved it when motorbikes felt fast at low speeds. I sold my Triumph T595 because it didn't feel like I was going fast until the other side of 140mph. That's no good. You just end up doing 140mph all over the place, which is not ok when you live in London.....
