Welcome to my channel! This is a music reaction channel. For the longest time, I've loved creating content on the internet. I started off with a gaming channel right here on UA-cam, which eventually turned into a Twitch gaming channel, but as time has gone on I've evolved into doing other things on UA-cam. For years now I've wanted to create a music channel on UA-cam, and recently just figured "why not?", so it’s time to give this a go! Give me any suggestion you have for music reactions, and I will do my best to get around to them. As music has fallen further out of my life, I figured this would be a great time to get reintroduced to music.

live 80's and 90's concerts by Peter are killer quality. No lip syncing or autotune with performers back then

Thank you! Glad you liked this :) "Solsbury Hill" was Peter Gabriel's first solo single, released in 1977. He was part of Genesis’ prog years…I’ll let others tell you more about that. I grew up in the Phil Collins era of Genesis, so that’s the Genesis I loved first (I’m finally diving more into Peter-era Genesis), but I’ve been a huge fan of Peter's solo work for decades. I saw him in 1986 on the same tour as this video, and it remains one of the top three concerts I’ve ever seen. He’s still going strong…he’s touring now, and has been releasing tracks from his upcoming new album.

This was Peter's first big hit after leaving Genesis. And many believe it was his explanation for leaving the band. "I was feeling part of the scenery"...."I would show another me" but knew Genesis would continue "I don't need a replacement" Maybe he knew all along Phil would step up singing as a front man (though Collins did NOT want the job, the band talked him into it)
Imagine Peter and Phil as singers in the SAME band. Mind-blowing. Their parting was complicated but mutual. Gabriel was getting the theatrics ahead of the music. The band started out writing music, then started playing it. You may LOVE the Prog Rock era. Anything (seriously, they were THAT good) from the '70s is perfection. Complicated but entertaining music.

This entire concert is available on UA-cam and it's so awesome. Paula Cole is one of the backup vocalists and is so awesome in this concert also. Over 2hrs long. Worth watching all the way through. Yes, Peter Gabriel was in Genesis from the start as lead vocals. He left the band after "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" album. Anyway, here's the link to the Secret World concert. Enjoy! Great Reaction! ua-cam.com/video/RiLMrC5IulQ/v-deo.html

Peter Gabriel is my single favorite artist. His time with Genesis from 1969 through 1975 is my favorite music. You are on the cusp of life changing revelations. Do Peter's live version of "In Your Eyes" from 1993 and the Genesis tune "Firth of Fifth" with Peter on vocals and flute, Phil Collins on drums and backing vocals, Steve Hackett on guitar, Tony Banks on keyboards and Mike Rutherford on bass and 12-string guitar. Every one of them has an AMAZING solo catalog that you will eventually check out. I can't wait to watch! Cheers!

There are many, many great Genesis songs, especially from the 1970s, and every recommendation will be good. After Duke in 1980, they became pretty pop and their albums became progressively less interesting, although I would listen to the least Genesis album before most pop music of the time.

The great and still active Peter Gabriel. Very few musicians have had a similar level. First with the Genesis where he actively participated in the creation of not a few masterpieces of rock music, and then individually, completely changing his style, he continued to be a figure of great success and creativity.
I cannot fail to mention the great bassist Tony Levin with his Chapman Stick, who in addition to accompanying Peter, also has a very prominent place in King Crimson.

Some say this was Peter's answer to his pal Tony Banks' song "Mad, Man Moon" where many believe the meaning of the song asks Peter metaphorically "why did you leave" to chase a mirage?
(that is a wonderful Genesis song from the Collins era off their 'Wind and Wuthering' album)

Peter Gabriel was Genesis' lead singer from 1967 to 1975, when Phil Collins was jjust the drummer. This was their really progressive rock era. Afterwards they turned more pop/rock. This song was Gabriel 's first solo hit from 1977.

  • @Tarkus_

Peter Gabriel, along with his bandmates in Genesis, were definitely amongst the pioneers of progressive rock. If you check out their live stuff from that era, you'll find that they were also very theatrical. Peter often wore costumes (which the rest of the band weren't necessarily fans of), that covered his face. I believe he had stage fright back then, and it helped him perform live.
Peter was also something of a pioneer in the music video realm too. His music video for "Sledgehammer" is probably one of the most popular and iconic music videos of all-time, and was a fixture during the MTV era.

Based on the lyrics, I had always thought that maybe Peter Gabriel had entered a 12 step program for alcohol or drug addiction. All the lyrics fit that idea but I did not know, just my assumption. 🤔🌹 Loved Peter Gabriels first Album. Literally wore the picture off the cover.😢 Great reaction.🥰🥰🇨🇦

Yes Peter Gabriel-era Genesis is seminal prog ! (Though the first couple albums with Phil Collins singing lead were still more prog than pop.) Check out The Musical Box, Watcher of the Skies, Firth of Fifth, Cinema Show.

A very good introduction to Peter Gabriel era Genesis would be "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway," although their best musicianship is on their longer songs: "Supper's Ready" (about 23 minutes), "Cinema Show/Aisle of Plenty," "Firth of Fifth," or "The Musical Box" (each about 10 minutes). You can't go wrong with any of them!

"Supper's Ready" is incredible and I hope La and Che listen one day. As great as Genesis were onstage, it is always best to start with their studio versions, especially "Supper's Ready." Peter's studio tracks are also the best place to explore his eclectic solo catalog, but anything live by Peter is great. The best version of his must-see classic "In Your Eyes" is from the 1993 film Secret World Live, easily found on UA-cam. It is probably as popular as Phil's live version of "In the Air Tonight."

@@intothesunset3 good point. '80s and '90s Genesis always gave as good a live show as anyone, and their shows included the better later tunes from their catalog. Virtuoso sidemen Daryl Stuermer and Chester Thompson were crucial to their live shows. And BB, of course.

Peter Gabriel admits in his liner notes that his vocals are overdubbed on recorded live performances. That's why you can see him jumping around but vocally sounding perfect. But having been to a live performance I can tell you that his live vocals are near perfect. The reason he gives for doing this is not about not being able to sing near flawlessly live but because he believes purchasers of his live recordings deserve the best quality and (he says) he has terrible mic technique and often forgets and mixes up his lyrics. 😄

Such a great song! And yes, it's all the same Genesis 😊 Think I'd recommend "Dancing with the Moonlit Knight" as a prog song of theirs to start with. It's an excellent showcase for Peter's voice and the exceptional talent of the whole band.

This song was written in the early 70s. He's singing about his decision to leave Genesis and go out on his own. Phil Collins was Genesis' drummer, and he took over on vocals. So, yes, Peter is an OG of prog rock.

The vocals, and I suspect other tracks are heavily overdubbed in studio. You'll notice that despite so much movement of Gabriel, so much wavering of the his vocal mic off-axis, the levels and performance are flawless. He's famous for doing a lot of post production in his live stuff.

Creative differences were making them not get along. He decided to leave the band, but they stayed cordial as Phil played drums for some of Peter Gabriels songs and Peter would come around and give suggestions to Genesis and Phil while they were recording their albums. It worked out for both sides.

Peter basically left Genesis when he felt they were going too mainstream and away from the music he wanted to create. Shaking the Tree or In Your Eyes (live versions) are both great songs/versions to react to.
