- It was on January 14th 2014 that I uploaded up my very first video on UA-cam. Ten years later I am still here and still uploading videos. In this video I take you back even further than that to a time before Toy Polloi existed. A very young me used to make toys and many of those have survived to this today. Let's take a look at some and I will tell you how it all happened.

Congratulations on reaching 10 yrs of toy-polloi. Thank you for sharing your childhood memories and it just proves you are doing what you enjoy. Awesome work and best wishes.
All of this reminds me of my childhood when I didn't have a specific toy, like Transformers or Megazords from Power Rangers, I made them in cardboard and visual memory (or pictures from sticker albums), and I made them being able to transform back and forth. I was so in transformable mechs back then, and I'm still on them now. I also made some Star Wars vehicles when the Special Editions came out, and each year my skills improved, so I was able to make more complicated stuff, even as a teenager I still loved toys and cartoons, so I made everything I loved and wanted to have in toy form in cardboard. These skills I got during the years are still with me to this day, and I use them to make accessories for my flea market toys, it always feels like magic for me to make stuff for toys!

The Ram Man in the box was freaking adorable. I absolutely love the way it’s a childhood hand made toy with a modern made case and backing. Brilliant!

Wow! Those are some of the most charming toys I've ever seen. You were truly talented. I was proud of myself when I made replacement light sabers for my Star Wars figures by coloring the shafts of a q-tip. Lol! At the same time you were making these works of art. Thank you for sharing these with us.
that takes me back! not sure my fimo creations survived the younger siblings, but I will have to go into the parents attic and check one of these days

Lol loved seeing your childhood share ,man u were a busy young man very gifted. Like I to kept myself busy in little projects mainly in art drawings which I still hav to day ,it’s a great joy seeing something yrs later u kept.
That was actually quite touching, and reminded me of my own childhood efforts of making things.

As a big Ghostbusters fan i am impressed with all your creations but that stay puft and slimer is so cool. I would never have had the attention span to do that as a kid but i do repair vintage toys thanks to your inspiration. Great work as always!

People talk about “grails” but these are the true grails - you can’t put a price on those and a one-off, so a true grail. The memories those must hold is beyond any value. I think I told you how my one true grail is the A-Team van and corvette my dad hand painted for me from a 1:64 scale die cast vehicles that I sold in a lot before moving to the states. Would do anything to get those back into my collection!
Absolutely love these. Very creative. I remember another video showing toys you hand made. I used to make hand drawn Star Wars mini comic books as a kid. I wish i still had them.

You did a great job with these! I made attempts to repair and make toys and accessories as a child and my efforts weren’t nearly so successful.
I love that your mom has kept all of these wonderful items. You definitely were creative as a child. Those Doozers are amazing for a 12 year old. I remember making models as a child and a wrestling ring for my WWF wrestling figures. Can’t beat a child’s imagination. 👏👏👏

I said it before and I’ll say it again, you helped me fix a lot of my old toys by giving me the ideas of how and why.

The skills required to put together any of those toys-let along the variety of them-is incredibly complex, and I love the idea that making the toys was as entertaining as actually playing with them. Wow, those Trap Door toys were a blast from the past! I too made my own toys when there weren’t any to buy (at least, not in rural Australia in the 1980s where I was) but they were nowhere near as accomplished as yours. I do recall creating a Davros from Doctor Who. Luke Skywalker or Obi-Wan was a decent stand-in for the Doctor but I was lacking appropriate villains. I used a broken Spider-Man (he was missing his legs) and I created a chair for him using a lid from a spray can as the basis. Unfortunately, unlike you, I haven’t retained any of those handmade toys. Great video Dave and happy anniversary to the channel.

First off - congrats on "officially" hitting that 10 year milestone!! Secondly, I must say, I'm absolutely blown away by these creations from when you were younger. Every once in a while I'll find something creative that I did as well that I won't remember at all or remember very vaguely.
It's really cool to see these unique treasures and just how creative you were way back then to make these excellent items. It's no surprise to know that you were this talented, having seen your work these days and all the solutions that you've come up with and continue to come up with for fixing and repairing so many great toys.

Impressive fabric work, learning to sew when young is a skill that's always useful as are any handicraft skills. Plasticine was always a Big Thing when I was a kid, Ray Harryhausen monsters filled my shelves as well as got trodden into the carpet!
The Ram Man's a lot of fun, don't worry, even a non He Man fan like me can tell what it is!
I was always enthusiastic about making accessories for my existing toys; Action Man, Micronauts and later on Star Wars, Spaceships, playsets and the like that I couldn't afford. The problem was that I'd make the Ships and stuff mainly out of the now very expensive boxes for other toys! Well it was recycling, or so I tell myself now through gritted teeth...

I gotta tell you Dave. Those look absolutely phenomenal. I started carving decoys, and little dancing figures out of wood when I was around 10yrs old. Even with that. I don't think the thought of making toys from certain shows I watched even crossed my mind. Net alone actually doing it. The amount of care, detail, and time that went into these. Would be next level even for an adult. Looks to me like Toy Polloi has been a life time project even if you didn't know as a child. Truly amazing. As always thanks again not only for what you do now, but what you did as a child that led up to it.

Really impressive. To keep these nice things and not get thrown away. Thanks to your mom. Nowadays I observe kids playing today hours and hours and hours and hours with their playing consoles. I don’t get it. Others are consuming their leisure time on social media and smartphones. It is another place another time. In my childhood we built all things from tv shows with lego bricks. But unfortunately there aren’t any pictures and footage at all. Keep up the good work.

Early life.
I remember the jean michel jarre concert as I was and still are a fan of his music.
His concert in Houston was very bitter sweet as I was a massive space shuttle follower and remember running home for the launch of the challenger mission.
We all know what happened. JJM was supposed to record a live track with Astronaut Ron Mcnair, so he dedicated that track to him in Houston live.

Wow, the Pom Pom toys bring back memories, I made ( with help from my mam ) the caterpillar from the opening credits of let’s pretend from green Pom poms and painted green boiled eggs for the school Easter competition and from there on we were always making them for various stand ins , I made one as close as I could pattern wise to a crude looking Death Star to hang over my ewok village. It’s amazing what you forget until something like this jogs the memory.

"Vienna Calling" randomly pops into my head even after all these years.
I've got one of those mail-away Tony the Tiger games from back of the Frosties boxes! It was a game where you put water in it then have to push the button which made a puff of air go in to the water and ou had to get the little plastic rings to float on to Tony's tail.
This was cool. Love these types of vids. Love it when you do custom works as well. Hope you're on here for another 10 years. Hope I'm here to watch also.

This was a brilliant episode Dave!! A proper trip down memory lane.. This video brought so much nostalgia for me, as I used to make things myself back in the day…. I would make dioramas and entrance stages for my brother to play with his wrestling figures…
I made a ring once for him and would regularly make VHS video covers for stuff I’d tape on telly.
My nana used to bring me and my sister big piles of A4 paper home for us to draw on an create stuff, during weekends/ holidays at there’s❤
I so remember that 1986 Frosties cereal box you have there too…. I had one of those water games until recently😃👍

That was a great video! I love the background city scape and keyboards you created for the JmJ concert. I always thought his shows were amazing. His music made you feel creative and you did it justice! That Awing is great too.. make some more ships that what I say👌🏼

Impressive as hell. My own efforts were limited to replacement uniforms for my Star Trek MEGOs, or stuff made out of either soft modelling clay or construction paper. None of that survived. :( You've been pretty creative for a long time :)
Wow, that’s pretty amazing, especially the band . . . That almost look like there an actual line of toys :) . . . I’ve taken inspiration from shows on occasion to make something out of Lego, but no where near that level of creativity.

I'd love to see a video of you tackling these projects using current-day materials and techniques, particularly Trap Door. Seems like you ould make tv-accurate versions in plasticine or some such thing. You could maybe try making a Ghostbusters jumpsuit for Real Ghostbusters figures to make then movie accurate.
