Stopped By The Station Manager At Forest Glen WMATA Station For Filming High Speed Elevators

  • Well, things didn't go exactly right when we went to film the elevators that go 20 stories underground. The station manager at the Forest Glen station got a little suspicious of us on the elevator with a camera and came to question us. What started out as a pretty stern, typical "no camera" scolding, it turned to a very friendly conversation! You have to understand that they do have the right to make sure of what we're doing is legit, even though I have the right to film in WMATA properties, especially with the ISIS threats to the area a week before.

Photography is NOT a crime. Any place's security guard that gets you in trouble of filming just an elevator clearly doesn't know the rules.

and people in this "community" wonder why security are jerks toward them..maybe if you showed some respect, like this scenario, every security officer would be polite and understanding.

Very great way of handling the situation on both you and the security officer's part. I always try to show respect to people who question my photography, even if I don't get it back.

This ended pleasantly unlike in other "busts". There is no shame in not knowing something, but the response to our announcement of the hobby is key, nice responses like this are very respectful as they are just taking a precaution and upon finding out treated you very well, even shaking hands!

The nation's capital dont take no mess at all...especially when you have someone going around filming elevators...lol...they were being really nice to him..but trust and believe those cameras were rolling and transit police were probably notified after he recorded this video ... notice how short this video was.

Correction: there are no escalators because this station is so far underground that only high speed elevators are used.

Let's see who is a real washingtonian.
....how many stations are very deep underground on the Metrorail System...keep in mind that forest glen station is not the only deepest underground station.

That also makes sense as the station is one of the less used stations on the network by what I’ve heard.

I went on the Forest Glen Elevators on 9/27/2021!!! Elevators 1, 2, and 3 are in construction, but Elevators 4 & 5 were working when I was there, but Elevator 6 was turned off when I was there. At least my two favorites were working!! 😃😃😀😃😀😃😃😀😀

Metro is taxpayer funded. They had no right to stop you, however they had the right to ask what you're doing. You should have politely told them that this taxpayer funded and that this is a public transit system and that you have every right to photograph. If that were me that would've been busted and they told me I can photograph or video, I would've politely stood up to the Metro staff who confronted me

    • @youdontknowme2331
      @youdontknowme2331 6 років тому +2

Gluse... you have no idea what your talking about, metro is funded by the federal government..meaning if we have another government shutdown..metro will still be operational. Know your history...plenty of out of towners come here to my city..DC thinking they know everything and dont know a damn thing.

I love that motto at the end of the video. Yes it is always good to show respect if you get caught. Even if the person who caught you is a complete jerk.

We’re Elevators 4 or 5 working when you took that video or were Elevators 4 & 5 both out of order? I saw Elevators 1, 2, 3, and 6 working. 9/27/2021, my mom took a picture of me on Elevators 4 & 5 at Forest Glen. I like Elevators 4, 5, and 1 the best because I prefer left and middle than right personally. You can do whatever you want to do though.

The description made it seem like he berated you, but he was actually a cool guy. He was just doing his job. I'm sure he became suspicious when you kept going up and down. And who films elevators? It's just weird. If you were filming TRAINS then it would've been more rational and he probably wouldn't have even said anything.

Yeah, something is VERY wrong about this station, first of all, it has a tiny entrance in a low density suburban neighborhood, with no bus bay plaza, but then it transforms into a giant station with six high-speed elevators that have to take you 20 stories underground, but has multiple locked floors. There is something top secret hidden in there, maybe a nuclear bunker linked to a metro system, like Moscow Metro 2. This is the only logic conclusion one can draw from the weirdest subway station I have ever seen. In the TTC stations with no bus plaza's and small corner entrances are small and compact, same in NY, and even the fancy Skytrain, who's only deep stations are downtown because of the surrounding highrises. This hood looks like Suburbia, something fishy!

Be happy that Metro Transit Police were not called....Here in the DC area...we are very political and very curious of tourists who want to film "elevators" I applaud the lady manager who also filmed this as well.

Does [not] that station manager have more important things on which to concentrate like passengers passing through the faregates than a railfan recording motion pictures in an elevator! From the time that transit worker approached that passenger, I am sure some other passengers would take the chance to slip through the faregates to exit the station, or another may slip through the faregate barriers to enter the subway station freely, non-stop. Fare evasion is at an all-time high. It happens when you least expected. The only part of the Metrorail system where the public cannot enter are the station manager's booth, the supervisor's office, usually at the terminal, electric rooms, circuit breaker houses, tracks, railcar cabins, and the catwalk or the walkway beyond the station platform end. These areas are very restricted.

mind you this was later in the day at a station usually seen used by mostly commuters that's a very boring station the only reason why I go there is to ride those elevator or go across the street for the medical office building but usually I'm going there I take one of the Y2 Y7 or Y8 bus and go over there..
