A bezel for an opal was the first sterling piece I made with my hands. A very satisfying feeling to make something beautiful from random pieces of scrap sterling. Great video. A1 thats for sure.
Sir, your videos are a delight to watch. The straight forward explanations and the way you show right away examples of what you are talking about really help with the understanding. Thanks very much for the teachings.
You are my absolute favorite :) I use the word meniscus quite a lot, because you taught us about it. It makes me look like I know what I am talking about even when I do not! Thank you!
Thank you so much for these videos! I love learning how to make my own jewelry and it's hard finding someone as knowledgeable as you who is willing to pass it on! I really appreciate it!
Manual work very cool ... very precise and distinctive and explain ... worth seeing and follow-up ... Thank you for your quest and Ahtmacm in the deployment of these beautiful Video, ... you have my full appreciation and gratitude you very much ...
What do you do with all your clippings and filings? Are they saved and scrapped once you have enough to justify sending them off to recycle for some material cost recuperation? Do you find uses for them on other projects? Is it not worth it to do either and they are simply discarded, the cost of the material waste factored into the final cost of the jewelry?
Second time (or third)......Hand made is much nicer, I bought some tiny - like 8mm by 4mm, or so oval stones years ago when I didn’t know what I was doing. I have made a couple bezel cups that small, but I’m thinking in just these cases to order these cups from Riogrande. I’d rather be working on larger. About drilling a hole in the bezel cup to enabling light passage, or to be able to pop out a stone, I did this under a transparent citrine and the hole looked like a dark flaw in the stone.
no because it is too soft and easily deformed. however if the stone is transparent or translucent i will line the base with fine silver so it doesn't tarnish. one could also use tinfoil for this.
Can you please tell me how you work the edge of bezel around a soft stone ? I need to know if I have to use a flat graver to make a bright cut and which rubber wheel to use so I don't scratch my stone like hematite or a turquoise. Thank you.
i would thin the bezel before i put the stone in by filing the top edge, then just use a burnisher to keep from damaging the stone. i would never try to polish the bezel with a wheel
Thank you . I always wonted to know how setters keep the edge so even.My bezels are so thick, about .75mm thick. very hard to hammer. Now I'll try to use burnisher.

Super helpful. Thank you.
In the rare case where there is still a gap between the base and the bezel because not enough solder was applied, how do you correct this problem?
go back, and reflux and add pieces of solder where the gap is and reheat
Do you ever use fine silver for the base so the whole ring is fine silver? Thanks for the video by the way
