Do they come in different lengths (S,R,L) for each chest size? I would be a 42", but you are much taller than me, so I would like a 42 Short, if such a thing exists .
Great video as always, Raphael! As the owner of two G9s myself, I'm glad to see it featured! One additional nugget of information: Baracuta was acquired by an Italian company in 2012 (WP Lavori in Corso - the same company that owns Woolrich). I believe their strategy has since been to 1. move all production of the G9 back to the UK (at least for their core colors), 2. improving the overall level of workmanship and 3. slimming down the fit (which is why some customers in your comments, myself included, needed to size up one). This has allowed them to command higher prices, but - at least in my eyes - has elevated the product in turn. Totally agree that while it is not cheap, the full price for it is fair and makes it worth it.
I happily bought one at full price as a spontaneous buy yesterday from Cable Car Clothiers in San Francisco. I don't make a lot of money but I keep my stuff forever and trying to think about quality and heritage when I purchase items. This will be a lifetime jacket.
I agree with the Harrington jacket being a very timeless and versatile piece. It is indeed worth its money. Excellent video Raphael, looking dapper as always
Being a short and small framed guy, I have been having a hard time finding a well fitting casual jacket for lazy Sundays or a casual setting in general. I tried the G9 and it's modern cousins, but none of them fitted well. Then I tried Ben Sherman's take the Harrington in size small and it was a perfect fit. The cut is slimmer, but that suits my low hight and small build. Now I finally have a jacket that does not look like I borrowed my father's.
Purchased an olive green G9 when Allen Edmonds had them on clearance. Definitely worth the money and is often the perfect jacket for spring and fall weather. It has a mid century look which is distinguished and sporty. Can be dressed up or down, very versatile!
I love my Baracuta G9! I bought the green one you are wearing in the video last year and I couldn't be happier! As said, it is extremely versatile and very well made! Thinking of getting the dark blue as well. Great video again Raph! Thanks!
I have one by J Lindenberg which I didn’t realize it had a name and was such an old design. Always appreciate how well researched and thorough your videos are.
I bought my first original G9 last christmas and i wear it almost every day, since then. It isnt to warm or to hot, is very good for rainy weather and the quality is 10/10. Best jacket ever and you look casual and orderly at the same time! My Favorite clothing as a skinhead 💪🏼🔥
Wait, the zipper actually opens and closes? Whoa, that's amazing :-) I do have a Baracuta G-9 in navy and absolutely love it. One of the best looks out there.
Before I watch, YES! My navy blue Baracuta Harrington has been worth every penny. I also have a Merc winter wool Harrington and a Soul & Ska brand in mustard. Hoping you include our Mod movement...
I bought Baracuta G9 SteveMcQueen stone color few days ago, jacket is so amazing i'm in love with this jacket, this jacket is worth every cent trust me, it also make you more confidient when you wear it. and don't forget to go size up if you gonna buy i usually wear XL but i bought XXL and it fits perfect.
I have one in navy and one in a natural color and use them almost everyday, that’s makes it worth it in my book, probably the most versatile jacket I have 😎
I love my Baracuta - OG G9 British Khaki and Bright Green bought from O’Connell Clothing, and WP Lavori Sands and Chocolate G9 and Red G4. Also have the Ben Sherman G9 version of Sands and Black, and Uniqlo G9 Version Black and Green. Love all my 9 Harrington!
Wow I haven't had one in years at least not Baracuta , i have had harrington jackets by other manufacturers. I had a reversible one in grade school in the early 70's,tan and tartan, so cool. great vid.
Love your videos, because you give so much history and detail. I really like this one. I don't know how others feel but I personally will NOT purchase any jacket with the zipper slider on the right side. I am glad that this detail was in your sights. I shall look into this jacket.
Thanks for the vid, I've been looking for a nice quality Harrington jacket and wasn't sure where to start, this review helped me to decide on getting one like this. I opted for a cobalt blue and love it. It was hard to pass up 40% sale on the Baracuta ;)
Well true, harrington jackets have a role in the skinhead(British Leftist Youth culture, not the neonationalists) as well as the punk and alternative culture and with that influence in the modern younger fashion world as grunge vibes take their return as everything that is kind of 80s and 90s
I paid $169 at my golf club for the same jacket without the name. I have had it at least 15 years now, in Stone color; like a Timex, it takes a licking and keeps on ticking, or keeping me dry on the links, love it, just looked, it is by McGregor
It's also one of the _de rigueur_ designs for jackets amongst punks and even found its way into the metal scene, though the jackets are usually cheap knock-offs you can buy for about 40€/$/£. I think the trend started with mods, then skinheads, then punks.
The Harrington Jacket available from Warrior Clothing UK, a British heritage brand, is available for around thirty pounds. It fits just as well, has a distinct lining, features that call back to the days of mod culture, and are true to fit. My favorite jacket, bar none. Replaced the zipper after a year for ten and it's still going strong.
@@jacknapier5188 True. However the Harrington is a style of jacket whereas the MacGregor Antifreeze is a make/model specific jacket. Fundamental differences: Harrington - Typically made of a cotton or cotton blend, funnel collar with two button holes, tartan or plaid lining, knitted cuffs and waist. angled flapped pockets with a button fastener. MacGregor Antifreeze - Made of Dupont Nylon, pointed or slightly rounded "shirt style" collar, sherpa lining, elasticized waist, buttoned cuffs, slashed pockets with an inverted opening. There is a similar jacket that was popular in the 60's and 70's in America which is often confused with the Harrington because it also had the same style two button tabbed funnel collar. I don't know if there's a specific moniker for it but it was a general windbreaker, or utility jacket, make of cotton/poly twill, had the same style collar but could be distinguised from the Harrington as it had a straighter and squarer fitted cut than the traditional bomber cut of the Harrington, buttoned sleeve cuffs rather than knitted cuffs, simple slashed pockets with no flap, and no tartan lining; often unlined. In fact, I would say the Tom Ford Quantum of Solace jacket is a closer homage to the latter than it was to the Harrington.
Lost your Persol sunglasses? Hells bells those cost as much as the jacket! (the Steve McQueen edition anyway). Good review of the jacket. If you can't afford the Baracuta, other makers like J. Crew sell their own version for much less.
Picked up my second Baracuta, G9 this time for the first time directly from the store in Milan, incredible experience. Although, the G4 remains my favourite.
Superb well researched video I’ve had several cheaper versions of the classic Baracuta G9 Jacket over the years but I may invest in the real McCoy this spring probably in a sand colour. 😊
Harringtons are such sharp, versatile windbreakers and comfy to wear. I have a tan suede Orvis, a black Izod, and a tan Baracuta. Always cool. The Navy will be my next acquisition.
I prefer jackets without elastication, especially in the cuffs. As a classic style. I would hope to get many more than 10 years from this item. I suspect the style has been updated as most heritage items have - it appears more fitted, especially around the shoulder (compare its present form with a modern golf jacket : the golf jacket has much freer shoulders to allow for comfortably swinging the club). I remember 15 years ago these were about half the price as they had fallen out of fashion, and the 60's style (I'm thinking slim fit suit styles) were still 5 years away
Hi! in your article you said “Cheaper buttonholes are sewn first and then cut leaving you with more residual threads” it’s actually incorrect; to have “practice” industrial buttonholes sewing machine , it’s waaayy cleaner and luxurious to : - embroider the buttonhole (yes it’s embroidery)and then cut -have a 3 thread buttonholes, and having it “tailoring shape” with the bartack to stop it instead of the “denim” buttonhole shape
I love Harrington's and have had 2 or 3. I wouldn't pay that much for one though as it is quite expensive for the average person but there are loads about. Being British, they are classic. Also popular with "casuals" and/or in terrace wear amongst football (soccer fans) in some quarters.
For those wanting to know about fit if you head over to Atom Retro they actually sell the origional fit ones which they state is a loose fit and has more of a blousan silhouette ,the slim fit versions are the modern day ones.... and for the record, i am 54 years old and wore haringtons as a teenager, they were always a relaxed fit, none of this slim fit cant put your hands above your head garbage, i remember the ones i had as if it were only yesterday.
Proper skinhead Jacket from the original non racist reggae/ska loving working class brit folk. In my school it had to be black for the two tone ska. Terry Hall R.I.P 🙏
I have what I call a “Harrington-Style” jacket I got from a department store and I love it. It has zippered pockets and doesn’t have the ribbed cuffs and waist. Other than that, it’s modeled after the Harrington. Mine is black and looks great.
I f I have a choice between a Baracuta and a Grenfell Harrington, I'd always pick the one from Fred Perry. But then again, I'm to bold to be a gentleman. The racing green ist nice though...
Reglan sleeves are not there to repel water. Raglan sleeves give much more range of motion than set in sleeves. Sometimes reglan tshirts are called baseball shirts indeed again for range of motion for sports. As a golf jacket you need to move and swing your arms. This jacket looks small on you. Maybe go up a size for better fit?
I have the Sanders boots , supposedly the same style as McQueen wore in Bullitt, and in all honesty, no, they are not worth it. I'll never be able to justify the price for a boot that is 4 times as expensive but not 4 times better made than a similar one.
If you’re over 6’0” forget about it. I’m used to my jackets running a little short but these are the shortest ever with no long or tall size options. I think they look great
I love this style of jackets in a slimmer cut. I have a uniqlo Harrington in green that looks very similar to the green one you're showcasing here. I have one more in tan. But both of mine don't feature a plaid or tartan lining.
Jacket in this video is too tight. This type of jacket has to be a little roomy. Especially at the chest and sleeves. It's more stylish. Watch McQueen and Sinatra...
Hello. If you were to wear a Alpha bomber jacket, what size would you wear? M or L. I want to buy online a Baracuta and it is difficult to decide 40 or 42.
@@suarez_trabazo to give you a reference, I measured my chest using tape measure. Mine measured 44 inches and Baracuta size 40 fits well with a modern and a bit slimmer look. Size 42 is equally as great for classic look. Depends on what look you prefer. Hope that helps.
Pipo Batanga Because this channel is all about fancy vancy snobby stuff. I had an M65 back when I was in the army. But nowadays I prefer normal clothing.
The coolmax fabric give the jacket a sheen and much more of a synthetic look, compared to the originals. The cut has gone back to a slim fit, while it was a much more blouson for a long time. I would say that there are other brands that make a better looking version of this jacket, and closer to some of the period pieces.
Camo what? Would love to have a couple of these jackets in my wardrobe, being on the taller side, finding a brand that makes the style in a taller or long size is challenging.
My first harrington was Fred Perry and it was in 1993, from that moment this jacket its my best jacket just like m65. The best brands from my it Fred Perry, Ben Sherman and Wolsey( oldest mens british menswear 1755 ). Baracuta its expensive but maybe in futer I buy this icon jacket in classic black colour. The best for me in all harringtons its inside check material. Regards from Ireland.
You would think £295 for a Baracuta seems a lot, considering you can get a Fred Perry one for £200 and it has as much heritage. (Until you see James Dean, Elvis Pressley, Frank Sinattra and Steve McQueen all wore Baracuta)
If you're not concerned about it being made in England or if it's weather resistant Ben Sherman make a lovely 100% cotton (excluding the cuffs) jacket.
The oft-cited claim that James Dean wore a Harrington in Rebel Without a Cause seems mistaken. Careful examination of stills from the movie show that the red jacket worn by Dean has none of the styling cues of the G9. The collar is wider without button fastening, the shoulders are not raglan, the pockets don't appear to have flaps and the cuffs and waistband are wrong.
It appears you are right. Googling "red jacket james dean" I found a page that states the following: "Many have stated that this was made by the company Baracuta, but that's incorrect. Rebel's costume designer Moss Mabry would later state that he cut and sewed the jacket himself for Dean's character Jim Stark."
The two I have are from Next but the very same style and quality plus I got them in the sales ,you simply can't tell the difference other than the name!
The suede Valstarino looks gorgeous, I'm just very wary of suede because of the care you need to take of it, and the limited situations you can wear it.
I have a vintage merc harrington i got for £10 from a vintage clothes stall, the collar has some slight off colouring due to its age but still looks great
2:04 in the movie the red jacket that James Dean worn not a Baracuta. According to some post which is a DuPont nylon jacket made by Bud Berma. The jacket has white fleece lining and Talon zipper.
Basically a cotton-polyester jacket with Chinese zip, for £295/$390/€349. If I remember well, my grandfather had one in the 70s-80s and later when I grew up I found it comfortable but Im pretty sure that was not Barracuda.
Bought my first Baracuta around 1964-1965 and it only came in tan. Price was $22.50. Shortly after came navy blue and then olive green. Still have a tan and a black leather and a brown leather. Price of the leather ones was $150 each. Probably purchased in the 80's. When the jacket would get holes at the cuff we would cut off the sleeves and wear them over a hooded sweatshirt. We thought we were cool. I understand they are $400 now which is way too much for them. Remember, if you got the jacket dry cleaned you would have to get it waterproofed again.
What is your take on the Harrington Jacket? Do you own one? What color?
I have never heard of this company until now but I have seen many of their jackets.

@@suarez_trabazo to give you a reference, I measured my chest using tape measure. Mine measured 44 inches and Baracuta size 40 fits well with a modern and a bit slimmer look. Size 42 is equally as great for classic look. Depends on what look you prefer. Hope that helps.
Next time do the M65 jacket. Ha Ha!
Pipo Batanga
Because this channel is all about fancy vancy snobby stuff.
I had an M65 back when I was in the army. But nowadays I prefer normal clothing.
Pipo Batanga that’s exactly right - it requires “digging” instead of simply wearing..
woodland m65 alpha !
Hey the m65 is a mod classic
Love those old military jackets. I have an M51 myself and it's great!
I think the Fonz once wore one in Happy days, that’s good enough for me!
There are many imitators but the G9 is the only genuine jacket with the vented rear..I have been wearing them since 1966
My first harrington was Fred Perry and it was in 1993, from that moment this jacket its my best jacket just like m65.
I don't own a Baracuta Harrington (yet), but I do have three Ben Sherman Harrington jackets and those are simply great.
I have a Harrington jacket made in Harris Tweed it looks fantastic.
You would think £295 for a Baracuta seems a lot, considering you can get a Fred Perry one for £200 and it has as much heritage. (Until you see James Dean, Elvis Pressley, Frank Sinattra and Steve McQueen all wore Baracuta)
good to know about the arm length of this jacket, which would be definately a plus for me 👍
Got 2 like new beige and navy blue ralph lauren ones off ebay for $35 each. Great purchase!!
I have the John Blair knock off. It's a fine spring jacket. I can't see spending almost $400 on one. Mine was $5 at a thrift store.
Great review. I ordered one - zipper line is plastic ( They've changed it. And it doesn't state what brand it is... Pretty upset about it...
I like your video, great information on the jacket history. However, I don’t like the jacket especially in the dark green.
If you're not concerned about it being made in England or if it's weather resistant Ben Sherman make a lovely 100% cotton (excluding the cuffs) jacket.
Love this jacket! Wish they made good quality ones for ladies T_T
Thanks Raul, I appreciate the additional information.
He wore a MacGregor
The two I have are from Next but the very same style and quality plus I got them in the sales ,you simply can't tell the difference other than the name!
Is it worth it: valstar suede bomber
The suede Valstarino looks gorgeous, I'm just very wary of suede because of the care you need to take of it, and the limited situations you can wear it.
I sure your eye can tell that it don't look good when try it on...
I have a vintage merc harrington i got for £10 from a vintage clothes stall, the collar has some slight off colouring due to its age but still looks great
I picked up a made in england merc too for 10 in vintage store. Prefer over my g9 too
Just wondering what kind of car you drive?
Hey great last name.
@MrKayaker69 Its actually spelled `Baracuta`
Anyway Im glad you agree..
In fact YKK it's the world's largest zipper manufacturer and it is a japanese company.
@@Fito2019 You are right.
Found one of these today in TK Max for £80 almost £300 below retail value. Got so lucky 😁
If not sure about buying the jacket i recommend trying a real hoxton harrington before getting the barracuta Harrington
Baracuta has a big sale going on. Now is the time to buy if you're interested!
James Dean didn't wear a G9.. his was different make by a U.S. company.. but it helped put the G9 go world wide
I brought one from Uniqlo, and pretty like it.
