Think about it. Bob and George grew up idolizing Roy, Jeff and Tom grew up idolizing Bob and George. The Wilburys represented the first three decades of Rock...Rolled into one band.
Roy cranked up what was to come in the following decade with powerful feeling and the best voice ever. Bob added authenticity, depth, creativity and artistry. Our beloved George was loved by all such as those who wanted to play on stage with him, being so devoted, with a higher world view and being so deep with spirituality and wisdom he is the ultimate leading us into a new world. Tom religion was music and he gave it all in whole hearted way. One's like these who have laid their body down (as said in India) have their passing like bookends. Nothing like making peace with life!!
I wish they banded a few years before they did. They were actually A Supergroup that played Pure Rock. Glad they did accomplish what They did. It's definitely worth listening to.
Amazing that it all came together. Big stars almost always make for big egos. Big egos usually bump into other big egos when in the same room. This obviously didn't happen. The art rose above it all.

Jeff Lynne was the biggest piece of the Traveling Wilburys. What a freaking good producer, singer and songwriter he is. Tom Petty said this: " Jeff Lynne is the best overall musician i have ever met". The best Super Group ever just having fun at making great music.
You left out Jim Keltner…..the drummer who worked with Harrison, Lennon, Starr, Orbison and Dylan. He’s been on more tracks than anyone in this particular room.
What I believe is important for any band is that in order to work together, the bandmates must be floating on the same boat. They know they're working together as a unit to create a specific sound, but they also have similar interests too, and their efforts can compliment the other. If a super group were to be made for example consisting of Freddie Mercury, Jimi Hendrix, and John Bonham, they wouldn't work because their areas of speciality are different. Freddie's into Opera, Jimi's into Psychedelic Blues, while Bonham plays Hard Rock. Luckily, the Travelling Wilburys all have common interest, and accept their limitations, and work together to create a cool sound

Still considered one of the finest drummers in the world, is though of as the 5th Beatle and aka"Buster Sidbury" in George Harrison's Traveling Wilburys. He played with SO many of the GREATS. Was under contract so didn't have the fame playing with George and the ex-Beatles.
I remember hearing in the day that the group wanted to skip the stress of doing a second album following very successful first album so they went straight to album 3. Cheeky and cool.
One interviewer asked George why they went straight from the first album to album number three. Why wasn't number three called number two. George said " We haven't done that one yet." It's amazing how such great talents can be so down to earth and easy going.
"Handle with Care" wasn't recorded for a B side, but for a "C" side for a limited European release 12-inch. I wrote a novel about the recording of the first Wilburys album called Five Legends Five Guitars that combines fact and magical realism.
I was there that night they recorded HMWC all in one evening at Westlake studios May 1988. GH had a cute blonde groupie clinging to his shoulder, Tom was totally stoned and Dylan was passed out from the weed. I shit u not. :)
Mixing ultimate talent created an ultimate album they cobbled together doing a song a day, presented with a lack of ego, and always concerned with friendship over any fame. Outstanding, and a classic that will live forever. Free and open, they focused on great music...

i think its hilarious that the liner notes were written by Michael Palin from monty python. we all know about george's involvement with them but apparently roy was also a great fan.
Roy and Barbara appeared on the cover of PARADE mag winter 1986,and there was report of Roy's warning/heart attack,so I turned to action because knowing the myth of Elvis dying in misery 300 lbs in Vegas I wanted Roy to have his comeback,and wasn't going to give up,being a 29 yr old ghostwriter for Star Trek (1987) and songwriter for some local fave bands(Delaware/Philly area). I knew I could ghostwrite good or even great songs for Roy's comeback putting my heart in it.Man with a mission,aimed like a missile.
I like the channel already, but i must say this video for me its the best here. maybe because of the good vibe this band had, even with the sad passing of Roy. Its not an enciclopedia of the band, sure many others things could have been added, but summed their story well, had some infos i never heard and was a joy to see this, thanks. The Wilburys were just great.
They wanted Del Shannon to replace Orbison. They even recorded Runaway and were expecting Del Shannon to join the project by 1990 when Del Shannon took his own life.
I never thought of myself as a George Harrison fan but in retrospect I suppose I am. I bought All Things Must Pass in 6th grade, he was instrumental in making some Monty Python things happen and, well, The Wilburys are without equal. Thank you George.

1:25 Umm yeah... I was busy playing drums in my college band at the time, so I had to turn George and Jeff down....Bad career move? Haha! Actually at this time me and a couple band mates WERE asked to become “Raiders” for Paul Revere and the Raiders for a handful of gigs in the Midwest. Unfortunately, I did have some kind of out of town commitment at the time and I had to decline though I urged my band mates to do it without me but they wouldn’t. I REALLY wish I could have done the gig!

They needed to go to a studio and went to Dylan’s house to record. On the way, George stopped to pick up a guitar at Tom Pettys house, and Tom tagged along. From the mouths of George Harrison, and Jeff Lynne.
They had ten days of studio time, so they had to write a song in the afternoon, rehearse it in the evening and record it the following morning. No stress - just six friends having fun.

There is a vol.2. It's a bootleg of rough versions/mixes of vol.1 material and came out shortly after it. The Wilburys knew about it and decided to acknowledge it, hence the second official album is called vol.3 :)
