The single best thing you can do is practice practice practice!! Try everything you can imagine to learn what works and what doesn't. Try every shot in a dozen different perspectives or views. Shoot still pics in raw format always for best possible pictures quality. Shoot in 4:3 size and resize to 16:9. Get out and fly often!!
Excellent video. The narration was clean and intelligible and not fast like many others. You explained in detail the use of the frame settings and those Zebra Over Exposure Lines. I subscribed to your channel.
Stills are favored by real estate brokers because their mls (listing services) favor still images. Posting real estate video is more for marketing the agent. It is a good idea to be a drone camera operator vs strictly a videographer or photographer if you want to involve real estate capture in your business.
How do you price your drone stills vs. your drone video ... and for the combo of both? Notice that I didn't ask how much you charge ... I'm asking more for a formula for the 3 pricings: Drone video only, Drone stills only and then Drone video & drone stills. Thanks for your response. . Chuck (Jacksonville, Florida) . : +)
I only offer drone stills only and the drone and interior video unless someone specifically asks me for drone video only. I'm not a fan of drone video only as you are only showing half of the product. With regards to quoting its a mixture of what I can reasonably get as a day rate and then working out how much time it takes to shoot and edit. I find it just about always takes more time than you think by the time you factor in travel, answering emails about the job, changes to the edit etc etc Cheers
I am thinking about shooting stills with my DJI Mavic in Texas. How much do you charge for some still pictures? I've heard $150 is what most people are charging.
What settings would you suggest for video? I've been shooting in d-log but feel like I'm missing something and still have trouble matching those shots to my handheld shots of the home. Any help? Thanks! Good video!!
+Catalyst Design Partnership I mainly do it as a safety net as I believe you can still lose highlight information in raw if badly exposed, it also gives me the option to do HDR images. Cheers
Is there a time of day that you usually shoot your real estate stills? On the business side of things, are you making the agent or home owner sign a contract and/or a release form allowing you to photograph their house? I have my first shoot this Friday thats why I am asking all these questions! LOL!
I usually push to shoot in the morning before the wind gets up which works well here. No I don't have a contract/release form but thats still a good idea. I usually have an email chain and make sure the agent knows that we need the property owners consent to drone.
Hello, New to shooting real estate and I am having trouble figuring out pricing for Drone Videos and Stills. Any way you can PM me to pick your brain about pricing?
Hey great video very informative. Did you find it hard to get clients? Did you have a package or portfolio that you put together before approaching clients? And is it true that you no longer need a licence in Australia to do real estate filming like you used to? I a because the laws kep changing. Many thanks
It definitely helps to have something to show prospective clients as its a visual product you are offering. Can't really comment on Australia as I live and work in New Zealand. Cheers
+JOES DRONES it's difficult for me to answer those questions as rates and tax are specific to where you live and your local market. I operate under a company structure so charge a goods and service tax down here in NZ. My advice would be talk to a friendly local realtor.
At the price point of the DJI Inspire I just can not wrap my head around using an I-Pad as a screen. DJI should throw that baby in as part of the deal ! I do appreciate the video information and mean no disrespect ...
Blimey. What part of England are you from Johnston...!?! :) (Joking aside, thanks Grant. I've been working like a dog for 20 years now and my body is starting to crap out on me... So I got a Phantom 4, and with it I plan too save the relationship with my grumpy old bag of a missis. (That I love dearly). ....Anymore starting advice would be gratefully received. Kind regards. DBM. England.

how do u tilt down the camera?
The camera of the phantom 4 pro is comparable with the zenmuse x4. For commercial work you at least need to use x5. I would not use x3 for this.

What settings would you suggest for video? I've been shooting in d-log but feel like I'm missing something and still have trouble matching those shots to my handheld shots of the home. Any help?

Hi Grant - Useful video - Not sure why you auto bracket when you're shooting in RAW though?

Hi Grant, do you think the new GoPro Hero5 is more suitable for drone stills now than previous GoPro models ?
I've never used it on a drone but the 5 does have better stills capabilities I believe.

Another question I have is, do you charge realtors tax as well or do you just charge a flat fee without getting government tax involved?
+JOES DRONES it's difficult for me to answer those questions as rates and tax are specific to where you live and your local market. I operate under a company structure so charge a goods and service tax down here in NZ. My advice would be talk to a friendly local realtor.
Great video, Grant. I learned a bit from you. Also subscribed. Now I just need to learn how to do the same accent you have learned to do. : )

How much would I charge for such a service?
+Emanuel Guzman-Garcia Totally depends upon your market, talk to a local realtor.
Ballpark it.
Does your package of lessons offer a base starting price?

Hi Malone, I think Johnston is Kiwi. I live in Melbourne and Johnston's accent sounds like he's from New Zealand.
Haha! Definitely Kiwi! Great advice and guidance.
