  • We camped at Rockwood Conservation Area from October 6th to the 9th, 2023. This was our annual family Thanksgiving weekend. We had our adult children Amy (Eric), Brian and Allison with us. We had our furry children, Kingston and Jax join us too. Our friends the Funstons also joined us on this weekend. Rockwood is a little jewel of a park just outside of Guelph.

    Love this park. It is less than a hour from home for me. Every September the park hosts GHAGAFAP, Canada's longest running annual Geocaching Event!

    Thanks for the review. We live nearby as well and we had never visited. We took a drive up a few days ago for an afternoon paddle. We parked near the ruins and had easy access to the launch area. They have installed a canoe /kayak launch which was great to try - sure made it easy. The cliffs/rock formations are stunning but we were a bit disappointed/surprised at the small size of the kayaking area. The water had a lot of algae blooms unfortunately and I presume this will increase as the summer warms up. A nice little park and glad we did a day visit. Thanks as always! The bloopers had me cracking up - love it!

    We are from the KW area and we go to Rockwood often for hiking, when we cant make it up north I find this place still gives us the same vibe with all the rocks! :) Great gem in the area!

    Hi Ben and Cheryl! Nice park review. I’m looking forward to visit this gem hopefully this year, if I’m fortunate to get in and book a site. Btw The song on video at 6:45 min is very nice! Who is that?! Beautiful song writing and tasteful chord voicing. It brings those video to whole exciting feel. Good job!! We met at Arrowhead last year(August2023) at the dump station on our way out. Out of all places in the park right? I was like Hi Jacques! You brought your parents camping didn’t you? Way to go bud!! Ben came over and met our goldendoodle in my car too. It was so nice to meet you both! You guys are lovey! ❤

    We have went here many times just to kayak and have a picnic. It is so gorgeous but can be very busy through the summer and a lot of geese poop. I’m glad we had our own kayaks and didn’t have to rent for 22 hours🤣. You’s are the best , love your videos❤️

    Thank you for a great review! I’ve been curious about the conservation areas for camping. More concern that it feels like urban camping if the sites are side by side with no to little privacy. Looking forward to the PEI videos!!!

    Another wholesome video. Have you been here in the summer? Looks like a cool little spot.

      This is our third time at Rockwood. The previous two times were during the summer. Once the beach was shut down due to poor water quality but the other time it was open for swimming. It's a really nice park and a great weekend spot close to home. I probable wouldn't want to spend an extended time there as it is very small and you'd probably run out of things to do.

    • @devintimmins-litt748
      @devintimmins-litt748 8 місяців тому

      @CampingwiththeColes yes, we'd probably be using it on the same weekend you just did. My wife's aunt hosts Thanksgiving for her side of the family and she lives in kitchener. I'd love to take the trailer down and make a weekend of it, instead of driving home at 8pm with two little ones lol

    We went to Rockwood the weekend after you! Brrr! But it was also a family thanksgiving weekend for us! It was eerie almost as we were one of the last to leave on Sunday when everyone had to check out (last day of the season). Just to note: We were in the Pineview loop backing on to the park, and Did not hear road traffic. This may be specific to your area and the proximity to the road.

    • @CampingwiththeColes

    Rockwood is my home town you did a great accurate review. I would point out the water is small as my mom saw an angry kayaking commenting "Well that was short!" If you don't explore the rock formations, and go around the little islands it's a quick paddle. Unfortunately there is theft there, lock up your trailer and take your coolers in. Your family is brave, my heart was pounding watching them inside the cave.

    Great video as usual and as all your reviews. Watched it when you first posted it and watched again yesterday cause we wanted to book hopefully the same site you had. And we got lucky and secured the site this morning. I have a question if you don't mind. How long of a black tank hose would I need to connect. Thanks

    • @CampingwiththeColes
      @CampingwiththeColes  3 місяці тому

      It's a pretty good site with better privacy than most in that area. We backed the trailer all the way back, then used a standard black tank hose. I'm not sure if it's 10 or 15 feet. Depending on where your black tank valve is and how far you want to pull back into the site, you may need a longer one.

      They have some pretty big sites for trailers and then some cramped sites. Not much privacy anywhere there though. That's often what you get at a Conservation Area, since they're generally a lot smaller than a provincial park.
