I’m a Ghanaian and have listen to the Aburi accord and more documentaries abt what really happened, I think ojukwu was more prepared and Gowun didn’t really prepare..if Gowan had prepared enough and had brought lawyers , they could’ve given a counter proposal or they could have also made their demands ,so that both parties will reach an equilibrium .. But he failing to prepare enough for that meeting, yet agreed to it only to change his mind makes Gowun more guiltier than Ojukwu. Bettter still, he should’ve asked for another meeting so he goes back and prepare or do some . It’s all in the past now…let’s try and let peace remain…enough of spilt African blood
@christiannwankwo6062 the northerns assumed the 1966 coup was carried out by the igbo to take away power from them secondly because of ironsi unitary system government he wanted to impose
Educated played a key role at the Aburi meeting. Ojukwu was a university graduate before he joined the Nigerian army. He could easily played on the intelligence of those illitrates that call themselves officers.
Ojukwu played the role of the educated fool . Aburi was for ceasefire. Ojukwu went there for grandstanding and display of his Oxford credentials. He made demands he could not enforce. Nobody was sent to Aburi to write a new constitution for Nigeria. This the mistake a lot of Igbos make when they harp on Aburi . Their protagonist appended a document he could not enforce . This is the tragedy of the Igbos . Their pomposity blinds them to the point of self annihilation .
@@avigrett1484 my Brother what ceasefire are you referring to? When Aburi Accord happened the Biafran Civil war had not started. There was no country called Biafra when the Aburi accord was signed. Ojukwu and Gowon both went to Aburi as Nigerians !!!

Thank you for sharing. Your analysis on Ojukwu's proposal for devolution of power, weakening the central government is not very sound and misleading. Igbos have always been in support of devolution of power exemplified in restructuring. They are enterpreneurial and understand quite well that development is built on market competition in a good sense. So, regional resource management would foster economic growth of the regions. Nnamdi Azikiwe was a one-Nigeiran who taught he could make Nigeria better. He championed unitary system, not because an Igbo was the head of state. As a matter of fact, he was indeed the only Igbo top tier elite whose sense of One-Nigeria almost ruined the Igbo race.
Even the devolution of powers champion today would weaken the central govt but is that a problem? No! The central govt must be weak in order to strengthen the regional govts. And that is why even the key proponents of regionalism always changed when they reach office as president. Thank you for watching 💗💗💗
Ironsi wasn't only killed as a retaliation, many easterners was also killed. (It's overreacting) .Education is important in leadership. Ojukwu was already a graduate at that time and laid bare his mind in Aburi on way forward . Gowon on the other hand was unfit to be in that office. If you were in the position of Ojukwu as a leader and your people are being massacred all over the country and as tensions were rising they were becoming more and more unsafe outside their region and you don't have the authority to legalize the use of gun for personal protection. Would you have resigned in the face of such a situation?? Or accept decree 8 ? which is one of the most useless decree ever made in Nigeria because it is open to many interpretations and can be easily abused. Thank you so much for your insight! I think you captured it very well.... Gowon probably thought it was a social gathering. He went unprepared.
Ojukwu was more prepared, more intelligent and was fighting for the interest of his people
My question will always remains, "what lead to the Igbo massacre in the North before the Aburi Meeting".
It was still part of the fallout of the January coup.

Why did they killed igbos in the northern region, no body is asking this question
It was the DIG Timothy Omobare that was the police officer in Aburi and not Kam Salem.
OK, thank you

Uninformed!? But he was the president... Are you saying he was not qualified?
I'm sure Ojukwu didn't prepare his agreement with the hope that Gowon was unprepared... It was a meeting involving dialogue
