    I got myself some JBL tweezers and some Tropica spring shears after this video. They definitely make a massive difference over the cheap one's I've got! It used to bug me how everyone seemed to plant stuff quite easily and it turned out it was the tweezers!

      Ha. Its funny ey. Really wouldn't think they would be that different, but they really are! Glad that the video helped! Thanks for watching! 👍

    Never heard of the laser thermometer! I agree with all these! The substrate scraper thingy i barely ever use, and even when I am setting it up, I end up just using my hands! Awesome, well-edited video as always Aquarium Shed! Keep it up! 👍

      Absolutely, tbh I end up using my hands and an old credit card more than anything else! 🤣 Thanks for the positive feedback, really appreciate the support! 👍

    Haha, great video. Super weird vibe 😜 it's like one of those 60min HD aquarium relaxation videos, but then not. Shallow nets eh? Good tip. Will be after some sprung scissors next too, my tropica tweezers are one of my favourite parts of aquascaping. When you have the right tool things are so much more enjoyable

      Ha. Glad you enjoyed it. I certainly had a lot of fun making it. Definitely agree with you, feel like it took me far to long to realise that good tools are worth it. Buy cheap buy twice is my new motto! 👍

    A couple critical clarifications about the laser thermometer. 1) The result varies dramatically according to the emissivity of the surface being read -- they can be calibrated so you can consistently read air ducts, frying pans, or whatever material you are routinely using it to gauge. So glass versus acrylic is one potential variable. 2) It will tell you the surface temperature of what the laser is hitting, in this case the aquarium exterior. You could use it for a quick and rough gauge but it will likely be consistently off by a couple degrees because some of that surface heat is being lost to the room (depending on how much room temp differs from aquarium temp). If you're going to use a laser, gauge it according to a gold-standard submersible thermometer so you can know, for example, it's consistently 2 degrees low. By all means save time where you can, but don't risk losing all the time and money spent on an aquarium without knowing the limitations of this shortcut.

      Really useful information, thanks so much for clarifying. I'm off to do a few experiments! 👍

      I've found my mini-Oxford one to be pretty accurate when testing against the water surface (not the glass). It matches to the internal thermometer display temperature.

    Love your channel! Will you be doing a video on lighting for planted /semi planted aquariums at some point? There's so much info floating around its hard to know which lighting options are best for your average consumer. I have a pretty cheap underwater LED that is somewhat effective, but its hard to asses to what magnitude.

    • @AquariumShed
      @AquariumShed  2 роки тому +1

      I can certainly look into this as a future video, tho my current lighting routine is explained here: ua-cam.com/video/_jm67XB1Ps4/v-deo.html 👍

    You can pick up small laser thermometers for not very much at all. I agree, they are a must.
    I would like to nominate filter sponge sheet. Much cheaper than manufacturers replacement sponge, you can cut it to size, use in a variety of ways and even as a glass cleaning aid.
    Honourable mention for pipettes.

    • @AquariumShed
      @AquariumShed  2 роки тому

      Ha. Honourable mention granted! They were on my shortlist but didn't really fit the theme of expensive tools. I think maybe I need to make a second video, "buy cheap accessories", cos I totally agree with you about filter sponge sheet etc. I don't buy any official consumable parts, their a complete rip off! Thanks so much for watching, please let me know if there is any other content you'd like to see on the channel!

    1. Never bought tweezers, always used chopsticks.
    2. Sprung scissors? Never owned one but good idea
    3. Ever tried a magic eraser or melamine foam?
    4. Nets yes
    5. Laser thermo, woo that's so high tech
    6. Towels yes

      Aah thanks so much, really glad you found the channel! If I may be so bold, I always think this is a fun video - ua-cam.com/video/vPibtMarbMM/v-deo.html - from my past that gets overlooked. An oldie but a goodie you might say. Didn't know how to edit as well back then, but the idea was fun! Enjoy!
