The way I see it, I’m wasting time I should be spending with my family and friends. Imagine when we’re on our deathbeds the absolute regret we would feel for sacrificing our precious time for meaningless scrolling

You are so right about the act of opening Facebook being like walking into a room and forgetting why you are there. There are so many times that I find myself looking at Facebook and wondering, “why did I even open this?” It’s just mindless, and a waste.

I did this without realizing I did it. I got fed up with being angry all the time over politics. I would spend hours commenting to people that I disagree with and had very few good interactions. No matter how fare I tried to be with there opinion I only got rude replies or trolls that never intended on having a real conversation in the first place. I kind of got to a breaking point and all at once I deleted Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok. I couldn’t bring myself to deleting UA-cam though, because I really enjoy watching videos about all kinds of different things and I don’t think I can give that up. But on UA-cam, I unsubscribed from any UA-camr that talked about contentious political issues. I also blocked any recommendation that popped up that had anything to do with politics. I did this about a year ago and since then I’ve allowed myself to watch some political things, because I think being completely in the dark is not something I want to do. But for me getting rid of most of those distractions really helped. I’ve started watching more hobby videos and educational videos which I feel is a better use of my time. And I also try to restrain myself from commenting too much because I know I can get really into it and I don’t think it’s good for me in the arguments aren’t worth it. For anyone considering scaling back, I would definitely recommend it. I genuinely believe that I am a happier nicer person than I was a year ago because of this change.

I always had been in a bad mental place during high-school and college. It felt a lot like I was trying to fit into a crowd that "knew everything" and I felt like i was "missing" something or the other if i didn't catch up w the latest trends, clothes, memes, viral video, etc and etc. I was always just _so_ depressed and anxious and i remember feeling a certain amount of anger all the time - and all these feelings would elevate everytime i was on Facebook or instagram cause those are the places where i would look at things happening & people posting their lives highlights and feel utterly miserable. Ever since I made the active effort of removing social media platforms from my life _completely_ (and never looking back), my moods, habits, productivity, focus and purpose have completely changed. I no longer have the want to fit in nor the feeling of "i am not enough". Leaving social media didn't magically 'get rid' of my worsening mental health, but it did make me feel SO much better from the constant overwhelming chaos of emotions. It was the antidote i definitely needed to give myself by putting myself 1st.

I have tried to remove social media over the last two years, my daily average of hours with my cell phone was between 6 and 8 hours. On January 1 of this year, I decided that I didn't want to waste my life anymore. This kind of videos help me a lot to stay motivated with my purpose. Greetings from Spain😊

thanks for these videos. I play in bands and have to do our own promotion on Insta , so i feel that i have to use it. Sometime around 2015, i remember realizing that the dopamine hits from SM were not natural, and posted less things, pretty much just my band stuff, and I didnt feel that I was unhealthily addicted. recently in the last couple of years, thats changed. its more engaging and addictive now. the app's just been showing loads of the shit in the world and stuff that is mindless drivel, which i just end up being sucked into and end up getting really sad about. Im still in that place right now, but I hope that tomorrow I will make that positive change. I do hate that bands have to use SM now, although it is a tool and I want to be able to use it as such. Grateful for these videos by you, I hope it helps many people!

im 16 and this took me a lot of patience and will to do because i thought half of my life depended on social media. my screen time was 8 hours a day and that honestly made me feel like im wasting my life away. so i started out by deleting instagram for 1 day this summer but i got so stressed and literally could not stop thinking about what i might be missing out on (in reality, i didnt miss out on anything.) that i immediately reinstalled it.
now i could spend weeks without even touching my phone!
-the thing that kept me motivated to end my phone addiction was thinking about how people my age in the 1960 or 1970s wouldve been doing instead of scrolling through their phones all day, and i envied those people. it made me want to live like them, they didnt even know what cellphones are but they were still happy and free. and when i think of how i feel when im on my phone, its usually just emptiness and boredom.
-another thing that kept me motivated was thinking about how the phone controlled me and how a piece of programmed metal had such a big impact on my life.
good luck for everyone trying to free themselves from social media! and also thank you for the video! its so well done!

These tips were really great, thank you!
Last year I deleted Twitter and TikTok at different points and I really did feel much better after, especially with the lack of toxicity brought from Twitter but I think i need to delete Instagram too because thats where my actual addiction is. I've gone back and forth with deleting it from my phone only to add it back and while I have been able to cut down my time on it, it still feels like too much. I also think I am having a warped sense of reality because of it and I don't like the way it has been impacting my internal beliefs and emotions. My only worry is that there are some people who really only reach out to me through there rather than calling or messaging but I guess they can just adjust as I do.

    • @EllHuron
      @EllHuron Рік тому

If they won't adjust, which would be no big deal if they really wanted to contact you, they are not worth the time.
Not doing this small adjust is the perfect proof for you, that they don't really care about you.
Same goes for you. If you don't call them or visit them or getting in contact with them by any other way requiring a minimal effort, you also don't really care about them.
That is the harsh truth, everyone of us needs to face🤷‍♂️

Instagram and Twitter aren't really an issue for me. I have accounts but never feel compelled to go on them. TikTok though. I have this major feeling of FOMO when I think about deleting it and never going on it again. And Facebook, sounds dumb but I'm in a Taylor Swift group so majority of my Facebook feed is basically just Taylor Swift content at this point lol so I love discussing and sharing theories, finding out new updated info regarding what she's up to, new music, updates on tour etc.
I do want to try and limit how often I'm on these platforms though because I find it's where I go to when I'm not doing anything else and then all my time gets wasted.

I feel i use social media as a distraction from anxiety and loneliness I feel. I know that my screen time is hideous and there are lots of things I could be doing but I feel so burn out a lot of the time that social media is an easy thing to do. I also only follow educational and positive accounts so it's not like I see any politics, news or negative things, I genuinely have a positive experience on instagram. I don't use facebook or twitter. But i do spend way too much time on my phone. A lot of the time due to feeling unable to leave the house to do actual activities or meet new people because the anxiety i feel from ptsd is so awful that often i vomit when i go places. It's a tricky situation but i am going to try taking a week off social media completely and see how it changes my life, and i will add in more reading, more artwork, learning via other ways even if its really challenging.

When you avoid to go out because of anxiety and then use social media and your phone in general to distract yourself it is still toxic for you. To fix the anxiety there is no other cure than to confront the fear and push through because everytime you avoid going outside you are strengthen your fears. Maybe you could start with a 10 minute walk outside a day and first do simple activities alone so you start to feel comfortable outside before you aim to socialize and meet new people
