I've been an adjunct professor for about 5 years now and if you are not teaching during the summer it isn't worth it. I teach a masters program that fills up immediately during the summer and rarely during fall or spring. Just my experience. Ive also learned that private universities pay almost double compared to public. Again just my experience. I'm in southwest ohio so you may be able to guess the main two universities here. But adjunct has been nothing but good for me. Got me out of finance and let me work on my own time.

    All very accurate!
I have a 40+hr. day job in addition to being an adjunct (going on 5 yrs)at the undergrad and graduate level in 2 separate universities. I’ve done course design and delivery. Bottom line, I truly love teaching and helping others grow. Great video!

I have a question for you, since I’m considering going back to school and will probably end up as an adjunct. Is it the case that most adjunct professors can hold another full time job? If so, I am completely bought in and want to teach while making money in other ways. If this is rare too, then I am rethinking things.

I don’t let my students call me professor! This was very helpful. At 63, I am a new adjunct. I am a free-lance audio editor and teaching is a refreshing change of work and environment for me. The young people are awesome to work with as well. I would probably do it for nothing. I get just under $6k per course so it’s a bit better than average. Thank you for this insight, you are correct on many points!

Glad it was helpful! With these things the word I always think of as “gemschacksache” (German for “personal preference”) - so long as there is a healthy and supportive boundary between instructor/teacher, it’s all good! Love that you’re a new adjunct - let me know if there’s any way we can support you!

I got my adjunct position in a private college in California with my foreign doctorate degree. Before that, I almost gave up to seek the teaching position even I have been a college teacher for 10 years in Taiwan. It’s very blessing for me now because I am passionate on teaching and love to be called” professor “😊

I do the adjunct shuffle. That means I teach several courses at multiple schools. People need to forget about getting tenure track positions. NOBODY is hiring full timers! You have better odds at the casinos in Atlantic City than you do of landing a tenure track job! What I do is tough, and it involves a bit of hustle, but I make it work. However, the current system IS unsustainable. And that's not me complaining. One of my department chairs used that exact word!

I have a full time job and I’m an adjunct at a community college and at a CSU teaching dance. It’s a good part time job but it’s really rare for tenured positions to open up. But I love what I do.

I’m currently seeking an Adjunct Instructor/Professor job. I have a full time job and I make plenty of money to take care of my family and I. I’m not hurting financially. When I land one, I know what I’m getting into. It’s just a side hustle to make some extra money to buy toys…..Thank you for your video.

Looking into being adjunct as a working professional, wanting to teach tomorrow's professionals, but also provide my tips and tricks as I discover them. Hivemind the wisdom, while giving students the opportunity to take their own twist on the material and run with it in the field!

Get a doctorate or teach at a community college once you finish the masters. Those are the realistic options.
