  • In this episode I complete most of the roof truss's or roof beam attachments. I miscalculated so I ended up 3 short but we'll get that taken care of the next video.
    Thanks for stopping by!

      Thanks for that. Yes, as long as it's taking and how much of a pain it can be, I am really happy that I'm able to do this on my own. I've had friends say they want to come out and help but none have actually done it yet. Oh well. ;)

      You aint kidding there! We just had the first stormy weekend of the season and I'm sure my place is soaked. Too much rain and win to go out this weekend for me. Might have to call in 'sick' at least one day this week to do some work. Next weekend is supposed to be good though. Thanks!

      Thanks! Yeah, I took a week to travel down the Oregon coast to the California Redwoods because my dad came up from southern California so I followed him back down to that point and came home.

      @@thesomewhathandyman9400 Then you just missed the wonderful earthquake they had the other day. Did you see any of the fires? Sounds like a nice trip. I used to live out there. I lived there in total about 10 years.

    • @thesomewhathandyman9400
      @thesomewhathandyman9400  2 роки тому +1

      @@kathyw7143 Woa, I did not hear about an earthquake. I only had the scent of a forest fire on one point of the trip. The coast of Oregon and Northern California seem to be just fine since they constantly get the wet fog rolling in and the low temps. Once you get over to the i-5 and east, that's where most of the fires seem to be. Yeah, I could see myself living in Humboldt County at some point but more likely just probably need to visit more often. Love me some ancient redwoods.

    Its moving along nice. Has the cost of lumber come down much?

    • @thesomewhathandyman9400
      @thesomewhathandyman9400  2 роки тому

      Fortunately it has. Well, dimensional lumber like 2x4's and 2x6's have. Not as low as a couple years ago but I think very reasonable. Plywood is still a bit high though. Thanks!

      I didn't record all of that part as I was feeling down on the project at that point. It's sitting on 4 cinder block stacks and 4x6 timbers. I will get some video of the underside at some point when it's time put insulation and belly wrap under there.

    Great to see another video from you man...I look forward to these every weekend. I'm bout to start tackling my 70...I saw on the one board you used it said "stud", does that mean that I'd have to buy boards specifically rated for such to replace the 1x1 studs in my place? I have zero knowledge on any of this so I'm probably gonna keep asking questions if you don't mind.

    • @thesomewhathandyman9400
      @thesomewhathandyman9400  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for that. I'm not an expert but I think pretty much any 2x4 you buy in the store has that 'stud' stamp on it. Anything I have that is less than a 2x4 thick I have cut down on my table saw so that's why you might see that stamp on it. If it was an actual 2x4, or 2x6 etc. yeah it's just what I bought from the Depot. And yes, feel free to ask any questions. Again, no expert here but I'll do what I can for ya.

    • @W0RLDSSMALLESTVI0LIN
      @W0RLDSSMALLESTVI0LIN 2 роки тому +1

      @@thesomewhathandyman9400 thanks I appreciate it. Do you think it'd be ok to replace the 1×1 studs with 2x4s? I took a look around lowes and home depot earlier this year and don't recall finding any 1×1...I assume they are prob special order.

    • @thesomewhathandyman9400
      @thesomewhathandyman9400  2 роки тому

      @@W0RLDSSMALLESTVI0LIN Your wall studs are really only 1x1? Wow, that's pretty skinny! I've seen 1x2 sticks at the Depot. Replacing with 2x4 would def make it much stronger and you'd be able to put a lot more insulation in the walls. Another option is to go with 2x3's which are pretty strong too and a little cheaper than 2x4's.

    • @W0RLDSSMALLESTVI0LIN

      @@thesomewhathandyman9400 ok thanks, and yeah they are pathetic 1x1's, I read online that most trailers before HUD went into effect in mid 1976 had 1x1 studs...pretty freaking scary knowing those lil things hold a place up!

    • @thesomewhathandyman9400
      @thesomewhathandyman9400  2 роки тому +4

      Yeah, it's basically a total rebuild for sure. I'm working on the front end walls right now and only a few studs are salvageable so yup, just going to rebuild all of them from scratch. Your husband is NOT wrong! ;)

    • @thesomewhathandyman9400
      @thesomewhathandyman9400  Рік тому

      Are you talking about the structure or the roof covering? There should be a few vids in my library where I put up the structure but for now I just have a temp cover on that has so far only sprung one really small leak. I still have the final EPDM cover sitting out front as I don't have the money to buy the termination bar. I'll probably get that put up in the spring or early summer. Thanks!
